We can see what australia thinks of its maritime history with the old manly ferry that sank in Sydney Harbour recently at it's moorings.

Wealth built on sheep, King Alfred's navy 1200 years ago, a Navy defence force for 500 years, Cook's expedition and a huge trading fleet, Nelson's navy, the industrial revolution - no wonder England is the most deforested country in Europe. Glad they found the old ship.

And the UK is still barren, I am always struck how forested France is, and there is zero interest in reforestation in the UK, even in our time of necessary carbon capture ... voting for Brexit is no help either.
