On the inside there is a leather interior, 12.3in digital gauge cluster and 10.25in infotainment screen. Under the hood 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that is pumping out 268HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Dodge Hornet a BETTER new sport SUV than a Mazda CX-5 Turbo?

40k as equipped, mind blowing. Looks like a 30k tops vehicle. The new vehicle prices will be what causes the next recession.
I think it is causing the current one as well.
@Raiti's Rides Awesome video as always sir! I gotta zonk the MSRP on this. I can't imagine a world where I'd pay more than 30k, maybe 32 if I wanted it badly. Thanks
This lamb thinks it’s a $30k vehicle also.
I wouldn't pay 20k for it.
Lol its a bloated Dart. Dodge is crazy asking that much. But of course people will still get it.
The hornet GT is a rather small version of the Durango GT. However the displacements are totally off the scale. I can appreciate the Harman kardon system and the up to date tech. 10/10 review Raiti thanks again!!!
Thanks for your great input!

What do you expect Dodge to do - put a Hellcat motor in every car?
@@rlsedition No, I expect Dodge to stick with the cars that are already successful to their brand. But instead they kill those off and create these abominations that will only last a few years because of their lackluster sales. This Hornet will be no different than the remake of the Dart back in 2013 that only lasted until 2016.

This thing ain't touching Mazda CX-5
It’s very cute. I think small size SUVs are the new thing especially if you live in a city with limited parking spaces.
This is so very true Koby!
Cx5 hands down the winner. Got a great torquey engine especially on the turbo model and driving experience is a lot of fun. The badging is where dodge outshines the cx5. They do a great job doing it
You are so very right about that
Yes, Mazda is very subtle about their trim levels. No special differentiation between turbo and non-turbo except for bigger wheels and a turbo badge underneath the Skyactiv badge.
Nice review on that Alfa Joe. Super sad Dodge had to steal the Tonale from Alfa thus pretty much making that obsolete before it is even out. No one is going to buy the Alfa with the price saving they can get with this for the same vehicle which is just going to continue to hurt the Alfa brand. For what it is I think it is a great looking little SUV inside and out but with the deals you can get on a Stelvio I'd go that route before I got one of these.
Bingo!
No one buys Alfa Romeos anyway
@@meishere4429 Now why might that be? Could it result from having few US dealers , only two products and no advertising? As an owner I can tell you the "problem" is not the product; I'll put my Giulia up against any sport sedan rival.
Idk why american YTers/journalists are so "we don't give a f". No mention of Alfa, plus engine is italian as well. Only thing american is ugly front. At least they could rebadged it a bit nicer.
@@nedokurcivi Stellantis management is who I blame for ripping off the design of the Hornet from the Tonale.
you probably doing it for the clickbait (kinda) but if you talking about the competitor, it's probably more suited going againts the CX-30
Yeah great job Dodge. Just used 85% of Alfa Romeo Tonale design and tech and re-branded it. Nice one 🤔
Great review though 🙂
I’ll take the 2.5L Skyactiv-G Turbo all day long. Smooth, torquey at low rpm’s, and proven to have good reliability, as far as direct injected turbocharged engines go. Italy-based Stellantis just doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to reliability of the vehicles it produces. Still, it’s always exciting to see what the competition offers. The Hornet R/T & GLH will be good for bragging rights. The CX-5 & 50 will remain as the wiser choice.
The 2.0T in the hornet is also very reliable. Been around since 2017.
Looking forward to seeing the Alfa Romeo Tonale review!
I can't wait to bring it to you!
$38,000 Cx 30 doesn't even have a digital cluster display...Zonk
Good call! Plus it’s smaller
Dodge is gonna lose a lot of capital cutting the Charger/Challenger and they are gonna have to bring it back in like 2025, that is my prediction
They’ll bring it back but electric. EPA is ruining cars
FJB!
Overweight Dart? 🤣😂🤣 Twenty years too soon to be dropping gas powered muscle IMO. Battery operated cars are being forced onto the masses.
This should be interesting
Overall, decent little package. Power seems good, and Dodges U-Connect system is one of the best in the business. I guess the biggest question will be reliability over the long term. I know everyone slams Chrysler for unreliable products but I think some of the Japanese brands have their issues too. As a personal example my cousin purchased a brand new Toyota Highlander and it had a bunch of transmission issues to the point where they had to replace the whole transmission. So they aren’t perfect either.
I would have little hesitancy in buying a GM product but I would think twice with Stellantis products. Of course even the best manufacturers can produce the odd lemon but there is a reason that Toyota is at the top of JD power reliability rankings.
No one is perfect... but they DID replace the transmission!
Has anyone else noticed that Dodge, Ford and Honda all look the same this year?
They are similar for sure
This Hornet seems kinda Dodgey , They dodge the bullet with this one , I kinda like it but I really hope the Hornet is not like the Journey that where terrible I dodge those Journey cuz there where junk so I am really hope the Hornet is a better suv .

My guess the Mopar design dept employee drives a CX5 and got lazy with coming up with new innovative designs. They might of just sat at the desk and said F$%k it I’ll copy my car.
Thanks for sharing that great ownership experience
At 8:50 Joe you missed a major zonk that you usually point out. It's the rear window wiper, Not being tucked under the spoiler.
I know the feeling man!
The CX 5 also has a untucked wiper.
That's not a wiper. This is a Hornet. It's the stinger.
@@kartofle123 Duh
Because there's no digital rear view mirror. Because of that, it's best to have the wiper on the bottom so you can see the road behind you properly. When the wiper comes down from the top, the uncleared portion of the window is in the bottom corners obstructing your view of the road and traffic behind you. I've driven the new Tuscon that has the wiper up top, and it was absolutely horrible and making extra trips to the gas station to clean the rear glass. If every car came with a digital rear view mirror, it would be a moot point.
Nice. I'm surprised you didn't mention the toe nail (Tonale) though. The Hornet's made in the Alpha Romeo factory. Italian, Mopar and quality don't really go together. Until/unless the Hornet proves itself, the Mazda will be the smart choice.
Since this is just an Alfa Tonale rebadge, I guess MOPAR now stands for "More Old Pasta And Risotto"
Glad the car is a pre-production. The engineers have some work to do on that left front fender gap to the hood.
They will have it all straightened up I am sure! (pun intended)
Chrysler/ Fiat Dodge /Fiat as long as the word Fiat is anywhere near this car line forget about it they have had so many failed attempts the Chrysler 200 Dodge Dart Jeep Renegade etc. plus this is way too expensive and no fog lights no roof rails also like one commenter said in here repairs repairs repairs !! Also they need five-year 60,000 bumper-to-bumper warranties plus 10-year 100,000 mile powertrain warranties just so to show the public that they have faith in their own product . I don't see this car company lasting very much longer I'm surprised it's still hanging on. Hyundai Honda Toyota Mazda you can't beat them. There is no reason in the world nowadays for building an unreliable automobile whether it be on the low-end to the top end the American 3 have never learned their lesson
It's cute,
Definitely NOT a charger/challenger competitor or replacement though!
You are spot on the money!

I love your car reviews. In my opinion, it will be impossible for Chrysler or Dodge to create any vehicles that are as reliable as a Mazda, Toyota or Honda. They have never had reliable vehicles and their vehicles have consistent repairs ( ball joints, tie rods, oil pumps, bad water pumps that seeped and combusted antifreeze) that are over $700 each and we're mostly a design flaw and had to be repaired again after 2 years. I've had five Chrysler/Dodge vehicles since 1999 and each one had premature breakdowns and buttons and things inside the car to stop working by year 3. I guess Dodge had to get rid of the low selling Dodge Dart and find something else to pedal to the people. But, again, when looking at car reviews, I look for your reviews among many.
Chrysler makes great looking vehicles that are just not trustworthy.
The only vehicle Dodge makes that is halfway decent is the challenger the rest of them are junk

No they don't. Not anymore. Stellantis sucks. When they took over they immediately ended the Power Dollars promotion. Which caused the selling price of my Challenger Scat to go up by 5k. For literally the same car.
Only guessing but in the future, they’ll probably come out with a Hornet Hellcat, and other namesakes that will put the Hornet at around 600 to 700 hp and cost around $85,000. Still looking forward to a review of the GLH (Goes Like Hell) version.

I currently own a 2021 Mazda CX5 turbo and use to own a 2019 Jeep Cherokee with the same engine that’s in this Hornet. They are night and day when it comes to performance. The Mazda is much faster with a quieter and smoother engine. The engine in the Hornet is loud and coarse sounding and that 9 speed is unrefined and unreliable compared to the Mazda 6 speed.

It’s a shame they had to sell a rebadged Alfa Romeo to finally offer a decent car. They basically admitted that they can’t make a quality car without help from other Stellantis brands. I know the idea of an auto group is to share parts but Dodge didn’t even try to be original with this one.

I think the CX-30 is closer in comparison to this than the CX-5, and I think the CX-30 is still a better choice. Sure, it may not look sporty, but it does look nicer, feels nicer, and I think is an overall better deal than this, especially if this is spec-ed up to 40 GRAND!
And the cx 30 is way faster with the turbo so you'd actually have to compare the rt trim of this which is laughably 53k
I’m so confused where everyone is getting this information from. The Hornet comes standard for under 30k MSRP with 268HP, AWD, 12” touch screen, digital guage cluster, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, LED lighting, and easily one for the nicest interioer around the 30k price point. The interior of the base model is basically identical to what you see in this video minus the seats. It is the best SUV bargain on the market.

@@kyle8523 people are mad because they aren’t making ice muscle cars anymore
It's way too expensive when you add the packages. $40k+ for a subcompact crossover from Dodge?
lol. No. It's not going to sell at all. People deal with Dodge quality (lack thereof) because they get fun cars with tons of power and great looks. Remove the power and the looks and you get yourself a poor quality flop.
Alfa Romeo management is furious that Dodge is shipping the Hornet before the Tonale, and that Dodge is going to steal most of the sales of this very capable vehicle. The Hornet is almost the same as the Tonale, but 10k cheaper, and consumers have too much information nowadays for Alfa to squeeze the consumer.
This is a great product, and should be very strong competition for the Mazda. The engine is using the patented Multi-Air electrohydraulic intake valve system, which gives it software controlled intake timing; better & simpler than VTEC or any dual cam system; it yields about a 10% improvement in engine efficiency, and thus they can offer decent mileage yet give you the performance you want. This is the one of the best engines on the planet, a product of Fiat's Northern Italy R&D dept, which also created the common rail diesel tech that is so prevalent. This time however, Fiat learned its lesson and didn't let the Germans have the tech.
I expect to see dealer markups on this car, because they won't be able to make them fast enough. This is probably coming from an Italian plant, and Italy has ever present labor problems, and i doubt they can increase the production.
Yes it is a bit small for American tastes, but for Europe this is plenty big.
It is going to be interesting to see how this all pans out Edward!
You are right about shortages. I ordered one last week. There are none on the lots anywhere. There are very few on the production line, I saw the list and they all fit on one page on the salesperson's monitor. I ordered one that is near the end, but who knows how long I'll have to wait just for the end stage, then it has to ship from Italy.
Another 10/10 review!!! Looks like a Stelvio-lite, which is no coincidence, since Dodge owns Alfa. Vehicle looks really good!
Tonale,no Stelvio
Actually it goes even deeper than that. Alfa is now offering a car called the Tonale, which is absolutely a Stelvio-lite by design as it slots right under it in their hierarchy. This Hornet is built off the Tonale platform, with almost all parts being a carryover besides the front end design. Rumor has it this made the Alfa CEO's very upset.
