Very nice presentation. I just discovered these beauties just south of Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, Mexico...Lots of them on the beach and getting up to fly around in soaring flocks....Handsome birds. Great photos!!
Used to see them in San Diego County, California. I was wondering if you were going to show them flopped on the beach resting. You did! They have such floppy flight with those long wings inches above the water. Crown Point Park on Mission Bay is a place you can see them at close range!
I used to see them nearby the del mar camping beach on Camp Pendleton. They can be seen sometimes in the estuary north of the beach, just a 10 minute walk away.

Skimmers, also known as scissorbills are shorebirds that constitute the subfamily Rhynchopinae, one of the three subfamilies of the family Sternidae, which closely relates them to the terns (subfamily Sterninae) and noddies (subfamily Anoinae), the closest living relatives of the sternids are the species of the family Alcidae, together both families Sternidae and Alcidae constitute the superfamily Alcoidea.
We see them a lot here in Florida, especially during the winter months. Really cool, unique birds!
Rare to find such information content on UA-cam.
Wow! I had no idea about their eyes! Fascinating! Thanks!
I have seen a black skimmer on a coastal island of Georgia (US State).
What an interesting presentation on the Black Skimmer! I must admit I knew very little beforehand. Thanks you for sharing.😊🍁
Thank you!
I saw some on the beach at N Myrtle Beach, SC. Loved it. I enjoy your channel. Thanks.
