Love how Hugh was emphatic in denying he was a “single syllabler” 😂
Well his real name is Peter
Haha the "oh god no" was brilliant.
Ex has to be one of the best jokes I've heard in recent memory, I'm still reeling
Rob was on point in this clip. “Lee Mack doesn’t smack of 1970s inner+city depravation, does it?!”
Lee set it up beautifully for him as well
Rare to see Lee miss a beat
Ya was a fun script, got to give it to the writers.
Don’t doubt from the look on Rob’s face his pride at that joke too!
Everyone's talking about the Ex joke, nobody's mentioning Warwick Davis going maximum rizz the second he learns Katherine's single
Can you blame him?
Lmaoo yes
Lee set that "ex" joke up perfectly for Rob, whether he realized it at the time or not.
And clearly Hugh is smart, as his real initials are PHD
Phenomenal head, Dara?
@@DrZaius3141 Bzzzz
@@DrZaius3141 Lovely cross-reference.
Every time I see this I can't help but think that Hugh should have told the producers that story about his name so they could stick it on a card. Might have got some points out of it. 😂
We thought about it in the writers room, but we gave Hugh some good truths to say for the programme already. Instead, we made up the one syllable name story for Katherine knowing that Hugh could also incorporate his interesting Equity name change story.
@@sstills951 why are you pretending to be a writer on this show, you odd man
@@dorgly8951 Would I Lie to You?
Katherine could have also used her morning breakup, but I see how that might have been problematic... Not to mention short-notice.
@@maniraptavia4008 that was a lie, surely? i always assumed since she specified "i lied about it all"
“Or EX” he looks so pleased with himself lmao
I love how Lee immediately believed it and so became offended lmao
Hugh (Peter) has the best delivery when it comes to jokes or a story. He could deliver a pizza and it would make me laugh.
To be fair pizzas are hilarious
My Mum's parents hated names being shortened so called her Joan in the assumption that it's impossible to abbreviate a single syllable name. Other than to her parents she's universally known as "Jo".
WHOOOOO! How charming is Warwick Davis? What a gent, chivalry isn't dead!
Sat next to Hugh on a train for a couple of hours once, he's a really down to earth guy!
"One syllable named people are dim." Lee: oh no, not me. They've figured me out.
I think another thing they failed to take into account is there is the name the parents gave, and the name the person goes by. Robert, might go as bob, Steven as Steve etc.
Everyone was on their game here.
Hearing the full story about her breakup in her standup makes Alex seem like a real prat
Yeah definitely a prat
Leaving her!?!?
Def prat!
It's the people who's first and last names both sound like first names that I don't trust.
I had to think about it, but that's almost everyone on this show. Nice!
😢
James Charles 🙃
Yeah, I don't trust that Bruce Wayne fella. He's hiding something!
@@TheRadioJoy Not intended, but I'll take it.
3:27 Brydon's best moment. Wonder if they edited this at all.
The only thing to rival it might be when Lee made fun of his face (called it long/horsey), and he said "It's not just the face..." *while* unfolding a pointer he happened to hold! (Or whatever it was.)
This bit? 🤔 ua-cam.com/users/shortsDbMQx9grW0o?feature=share
@@WILTY_TV That's it exactly! Now that bit does rival the "Ex" moment for me, but likely doesn't beat it
It’s just dawned on me that I have never dated a multi-syllable named guy.
thats because guy is only one
That’s because they’re all Johns!
Rob was incredible throughout this one lol
Thanks to Hugh for saving this segment
She told it really well, I only thought it was a lie because she doesn’t seem the sort to judge what other people name their kids. It feels a bit too Katie Hopkins for her 😂
I think it literally is a Hopkins opinion. I'm almost sure she said it on This Morning.
@@pintpullinggeek she did 😂 in an iconic piece of British tv
@@GABISNAIL I'm not sure I'd use the word iconic about Hopkins unless we follow it with "-ly stupid" 🤣
@@pintpullinggeek haha very true, tbf the iconic part was them showing her hypocrisy on national tv 😂
@@pintpullinggeek I enjoyed your comment. The nitpick in me wants to say you have to follow it with "-ally" though. lol cheers
What a sharp joke from Rob, poor Kat, unless the breakup was also a LIE?
@@Hutchyy As far as I know that part is true because she talked about it on other shows too.
Everyone looks very shiny in this one, especially Warick
Katherine is so great!
1:07
3:15 If Rob had said that, Lee would've said "Keep it light"
*in Rob's voice* What do you guys think? Is Hugh's story true or false? Or should i say Peter's?
"I dated a Bob, I dated a Steve"... or Robert and Steven to give them their full names...😀
I reckon they took that card directly from Katie Hopkins 😅😅
I can’t believe that Lee missed the “Ex” joke! 😂😭
She called her son Fred
If she'd said her bf's name were 'Al' she would have gotten away with it.
So Bob is short for Robert and Steve is sometimes short for Steven so both are 2 syllable names
that hit Lee Mack hard
Speaking as an Alexander, perhaps this applies to four syllable names...
Katherine looks gorgeous here
She's claiming to be basing this on two boyfriends. One called Robert, and the other called Steven.
no she was claiming to be basing it on someone named Bob and Steve. While they're commonly short for other names, I have met plenty of people of which their names on their birth certificates were bob or steven, not the longer names. Used to work with a Bob at a guard shack, was never a dull moment either. Only thing I miss about my old job in fact.
I kind of agree with the notion though. Not so much the one syllable, but simple names.
It's like spending 9 months in the character creator making something uniquely yours and then just using the auto-generated nickname.
Yeah, those are the same sort of people who are happy with usernames like bobjones458175
I have an unusual name. Hated it as a kid. Thankful beyond words later in life.
Touche John Touche...
Just choose a version of your name that has more syllables? Rob -> Robert, Steve -> Steven, John -> Jonathan. Those are all technically the same names.
Naaah, Rob is nothing like Jonathan 👀
Im 18 seconds in and as a one syllable named person I’m already offended if this turns out to be true, (not really of course but still)
2:06 what did david say, there's no subtitles
"My god it's like EastEnders isn't it?" (EastEnders is a dramatic British soap opera)
@@rosie7381 thank you :)
eastenders hasn't been dramatic since 1988 :D
This come off quite differently as a rerun, LOL. Now that she has two more kids. Although I guess technically Fred might actually be Frederick on his birth certificate.
So she dated a Robert and she dated a Steven. These are just two syllable names that have been abbreviated.
I'm still hurt
This show is so witty it should be illegal
Poor Kat.
Violet, Frederick and Fenna, umh I doubt it was a lie...
Correlation ≠ causation
I’ve got a similar motto: never trust a man with a first name for a last name eg. Craig David, Russell Howard
(Love their work, but very untrustworthy names)
That reminds me of Rowan Atkinson interviewing Elton John
What about men with last names as first names? (e.g., Jackson, Thatcher, Sawyer)
@@notepadpowersnail1860 exactly what came to my mind as well!
@@SimBol1216 I haven’t met one, but I’ll let you know how trustworthy I find them if I do.
Many male given names started out as surnames but there was a time when the mother's name was given as the son's first name, hence Fitzwilliam Darcy, except many of them are now accepted first names.
not sure if it applies to have a 1 syllable nickname
Aren’t Lee and John the only one Syllable Name
She literally gave examples of boyfriends with the names Bob and Steve....both of which are abbreviations, Kate.....
Steve is short for Steven so technically it doesn’t count
“Or ex” is the reason UK tv is superior to US
100%
Bob and Steve? Are one syllable names? (Robert and Stephen). Huh?
Isn't his mum called Delia tho 😂
According to his WDYTYA:
Her name was Christine.
Delia was his grandpa Joe's mother.
Okay, Kat...
Glad she lied. It would not be great for all us people with Vietnamese names.
2:06
I think it was true and then she changed her mind.
What? Are you dumb?
I'm a Lee, but I hate it. To everyone I know I'm Leo. Catherine (spoiler!) might not have been telling the truth but she's not wrong about Lee. Awful name

Katherine Ryan is not known or missed in Canada.
🙄
Maybe she doesn't realise that very few people are just called 'Bob' or 'Steve'. I don't like samie-names on twins (Jenny and Benny, Ashley and Aislyn etc). I don't even really like alliteration families but they're not my kids and I'm sure they grow up perfectly untraumatised anyway LOL.
What's worse than similar names is this American trend of putting pointless 'y's in names! What was wrong with Aisling?
@@saoirsedeltufo7436 LOL sorry, I thought you were saying that you think Ashley is an American name. The two names aren't remotely similar and come from two different (ancient) cultures. Both pre-date America by over a millennium.
@@cijmo No I'm aware of that (though I believe Ashley started out as a surname) - it's the Aislyn bit I was taking issue to!
@@saoirsedeltufo7436 I'm afraid I don't understand the point about putting 'y' in names and it being particularly American. Beverl and Kimberl look odd wthout the 'y'. (Nicknames are fair game, they're nicknames). I don't understand taking issue with Aislyn. It's a good name unless your twin sister is Ashley. People get confused with twins, let alone samie-namies.
@@cijmo I'm not saying any name with a 'y' in is bad, just the unnecessary additions of 'y's to existing names, which seems especially prevalent in the US (usually replacing 'i's with 'y's). Aisling is a beautiful name, Aislyn is an unpleasant bastardisation
Beam ex

Is "Bob" a one-syllable name? Or is it a one-syllable shortening of "Robert"?
Ditto with "Steve."
And if these guys were such losers, why did she date them? I mean, don't you kind of get an idea of what someone is like before you say, "Yeah, I'll go out to spend several hours in your company"?
I don't know I kind of agree with her. I personally believe that giving your child a very common or very simple name such as Bob, Lee, Kyle, Beth, Sue, Jill... Even if it's a longer more common name like Britney or Jackson, it seems like it makes it harder for children to develop their own identity and a sense of humor weakness or personality, and it's harder for them to be noticed for their individuality, whenever they have that comment of a name because they end up being shoved into a sea of other kids with the same name who they get confused for or who they end up being just like. I mean just think about it are you more likely to remember someone who you met once or twice who was relatively average who was named Tom, or would you be more likely to remember him if his name was Truman? Because let's be real, how many people do you know named Truman?
My experience as a teacher is when parents go for a very unusual name they tend to also teach their children to be arrogant and superficial...
Lets call more boys Sue.
@@waynerussell6401 Well, if I ever have a boy, I'll name him
Frank or George or Bill or Tom, anything but Sue

Bri_ish comedy is seriously the best....
_unlike murican comedy where everything is about political correctness, various appropiations, and other dimwittedness..._
_and now hollywood movies are going downhill too!_
In my experience, most Americans don't care for politically correct or appropriation comedy either. The ones who do are just the louder minority. I will agree that Hollywood is going downhill, but that's because Hollywood is ran by the "woke" loud minority. You only hear the woke dipshits more because they whine, bitch, and complain more often and louder than anyone else. We still have them outnumbered by a large margin.
None of the great american comedians are politically correct. Carlin, Burr, Louis Ck, Patrice O'neal. Where do you get PC from?
@@nardinit Exactly. The PC comedians typically don't become very popular.

@@mwilson5449 because my comment wasn't censored by your communist regime?
@@user-fl8yv7rz6f Well, yes. Our communist regime often demands nickname instead of elongated European names, resulting in simple names like "Steve" or "Rob" being the actual first names of people.
