Jim Harbaugh lays blueprint for Chargers, his return to NFL after 9 years, Justin Herbert | THE HERD

- What kind of organization does Jim Harbaugh want to build for the Los Angeles Chargers? He joins The Herd to lay out his blueprint for Colin Cowherd, one that involves good old fashion hard work and team work, and one that involves a quarterback he calls a crown jewel, Justin Herbert. Harbaugh tells Colin why he’s excited to work with Herbert, what he’s looking for in a coaching staff, and how different it is returning to the NFL after a nine-year break. Plus, Harbaugh tells Colin whether he had any doubts heading to Los Angeles from the midwest after his success with the Michigan Wolverines, and why there’s an emotional connection to the team. Finally, he talks his former quarterback JJ McCarthy, and what he’ll bring to the NFL now that he’s entered himself into the draft class.

Should of asked him if he considered bringing kap back as a third string or something
Brandon Staley has done irreparable damage to Herbert’s legacy. Harbaugh going to save his career
Good thing he’s still early in his career, they got way too much talent to be missing the playoffs
yupp staley was the worst charger coach of all time considering all the talent his team had.
If Harbaugh is gonna save his career then it’s not really irreparable damage
Irreparable damage is a bit much. Anybody blaming Herbert can’t be taken serious we all saw Staley was a hack.
Don't forget Anthony Lynn. That guy was an insufferable diversity hire.
Going from Staley to Harbaugh is like going from a Ford fiesta to a Lamborghini
100% Facts
And don't forget going from that bum Telesco (who IMHO was the biggest reason for our recent failures) to Joe Hortiz.......
Collin with another heavy hitter. Congrats! Also wow Jim looks so healthy at 60. He's not slowing down at all through this contract.
I think he has ties to the Spanos family. He always gets Chargers guys on.
Colin did a favor if u know what I mean 💦
@@Julian-jd5yj He was literally in their draft war room on draft day a couple years ago
Good DNA, his brother John looks even younger, I think.
He was doing a media tour today spoke to several networks
The 2015 interview was gold. I listened to that live. LMAO. That was hilarious.
Just listened to the 2015 interview for the first time after they referenced it. Wow that was rough. I can't imagine listening to that live. Granted Harbaugh's answers were bad and it seemed like he was totally uninterested, but it was also hilarious Colin basically kicked him off and called him out on the spot for how bad the interview was lol.
It was glorious! 😂
Imma go back and watch after this lol
Tom Brady and Jim Harbaugh in the same week??? Colin been on hard for a hot minute😂😂
😂😂😂😂 😂
Can’t even blame him. This is like legends week for Colin rn. I’d be hard as a rock… speaking of I hope he gets Dwayne on
Who both got their start as QBs at Michigan. Coincidence??? 🤔😮
@@343Films I think NOT!! Michigan guys are in a good mood this off-season. Interviews all around.
Pause.
I appreciate them addressing the previous interview versus acting like it didn't happen.
This is the happiest I seen this dude.
It’s neat to see Colin still get giddy over interviews even though he’s been in the business for a long time
That’s what GOATs do. You love to see it
How much of it is caffeine?
It’s good to have Jim back in the NFL. If I was a Chargers fan I’d be so stoked! Their future is bright!
That 2015 interview was a classic 😂. I’m happy they cleared the air, that was awesome.
Being a "half- Midwest half-California" guy really hit home for me. You see, it is the best of both worlds. The Midwest work ethic and manners, combined with the innovation and physical beauty of the West Coast. Harbaugh called it perfectly.
Shoutout to Jim apologizing for the S-show interview back in 2015
Michigan Legend 〽️🏆
And I'm officially a Chargers fan ⚡️
Herbert's Peyton Manning arc starts now. Manning didn't get Tony Dungy until his 5th year as a starter, and that Colts team took off after. Herbert now has a real coach with a true vision and now there is tremendous upside for LA's future.
Herbert is nothing like Manning. He’s been a loser on every level of his career, including high school. Any decent qb can lead their team to the playoffs every year with 7 teams making it in the conference. Herbert is empty stats with his 1 playoff appearance (historic collapse) in 4 seasons
@@MarvG3000just tell us you don’t know ball
@@Yangxiety4please enlighten us all then, "coach"
@@dannybramlet lmao aint that deep, Acho.
@MarvG3000 he won a conference championship and a Rose Bowl in college thats about as good as it gets at a school like Oregon
So awesome to listen to Harbaugh. Watch out world, the Chargers are on their way up.
Thanks for all you did at Michigan! Now go get that Lombardi coach!
San Diego fans (let’s be real here) are in for a great experience. He’s great for any program. He made Michigan great and now they’re set up for greatness beyond him being there. As a Michigan fan I will never stop supporting the lions, but I’m gonna get a chargers hat fo sho and keep an eye on them.
This man knows how to answer EVERY question. Charger fans and players should already be jacked for next season
Oh we certainly are!
Colin carried this interview
@@josephpotter7776bro that's kind of the whole job of an interviewer 😂
Oh we are!
The chargers will be in the afc championship game in two years maybe a Super Bowl I think next year they’ll probably start off a little rocky because of a new system but they’ll get it together before the season ends and make the playoffs. Justin Herbert is a stud.
@@floatpool8307chiefs aren't invincible in the AFC. Bengals already shown the world that so there is definitely a possibility of the Jim Harbaugh led chargers to take them down from time to time.
Chargers are going to charge
It's bad news for Colin's buddy S. Payton & L.V. Raiders as we'll, don't see either having better record than the Chargers.
Justin Herbert only perceived weakness is vocal leadership. He is so humble it’s hard for him to become the face of the franchise…. Harbaugh can do that, and Justin Herbert can just be who he is, the best quarterback in a long time.
I don’t care about the medias obsession with Patrick Mahomes , Justin Herbert is every bit as talented and if he had any coaching at all, would’ve had the same amount of success
This is exactly why I (charger fan) wanted Harbaugh. I think a lot of HC candidates could be successful with Herbert's talent level. But Jim has this leadership style (vocal, outgoing) that will compliment Justin's quiet "show by example" leadership style. Harbaugh doesn't like to shut up and Justin doesn't like to talk. Win-win. The locker room already believes in Herbert, no concerns there.
JH's weakness is that he plays for the Chargers, a cursed franchise.
We'll see about the better QB after the Chiefs make another few Superbowls and then Jim gets fired lol
@@matthewm7487your moms weakness is swallowing
As a Michigan fan, I'll miss him so much 😭😭😭

Amazing interview, Brady and Harbaugh in the same week!? Colin is killing it
People also need to realize Colin is good friends with the Spanos family so he has extra vested interest in the Chargers. He always wants to see Chargers do well.

@@bgstv10001It appears that way on paper, but if you consider the injury history of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler, Joey Bosa, and Derwin James, he’s kinda just lost most of his help as the season went on because the coach wasn’t able to develop the backups into good enough quality players. I think Harbaugh bringing in Ben Herbert as the strength and conditioning coach will help with the injury to most of those aforementioned guys, and should hopefully do good for developing guys like Tuipulotu, Palmer, Johnston, and both lines
He made the rounds today! I’ve loved every interview so far.
The two best in the business! Love Jim and Colin
Gotta love Jim Harbaugh!
That 2015 interview was a great learning tool on going on first dates.
JJ McCarthy is a great QB, victim of how successful the run game was. Coach knew that
McCarthy is the best and most complete QB in the draft and that includes the 2 most recent Heisman winners. He is smarter and a better leader than any of the QBs in the game, as well.
His accuracy needs significant improvement in the nfl where target windows will be much tighter.
Turn It Out Jim!!!!!!!!!!

Nice interview! Sorry the Falcons didn’t get him, but they never really had a chance. The Chargers are the team to watch in 2024 and 2025.
Premature... the Chargers will go through growing pains for the next 25 games or so, as they reconfigure the roster and salary cap structure, and build a more solid foundation for the future. I could see them contending closer to 2027, 28.
The Falcons are actually closer to relevant contention, if they can find their qb.
The Dolphins missed out on Herbert and possibly Harbaugh.
The Dolphins good where they at
What did they exactly missed out on Herbert? 1 of the worst records over his 4 seasons played with a stacked team
Plus the Chiefs robbed the Dolphins of all those draft picks for Tireek Hill. Chiefs are still going to SuperBowls, and Dolphins haven't won anything yet with Hill.

Kyle is great, but still annoyed the 49ers couldn't find a way to make it work with him.

I don't know what happened in 2015 but I just saw 2 men agree to let it be water under the bridge. Ego put aside. Great interview Mr. Cowherd
Their new practice facility is amazing.
I can’t believe it’s been 9 years. I remember watching him leave San Fran & take the MI job. I felt awful. The 49ers should have given Jim a new GM. Well it has turned out more awesome! & I can’t wait until Chargers take on 49ers & Jim gets the win! It just will naturally happen. Meant to. I’m so happy for him & his family! But it all turned out to be a blessing that he made a bigger name at Michigan than at 49ers. College coaches are celebrated.
I still can’t believe that this is our coach man. Every time I see an interview I forget for just a second.
It’s gonna be fun seeing him against Andy!

Harbaugh used to fight lineman that sacked him in the pros. He was crazy.
As a huge Charger fan for 42 years, I'm ready to run through a wall! Stoked about Harbaugh and his staff and Hortiz. Telesco butchered the last 6-7 drafts, never traded down, never made a move at the trade deadline, and never accumulated compensatory picks. I love Herbert, and yes, he does have to get better at the end of games, but this is a guy who never has healthy receivers, has a sieve for an offensive line, always plays hurt (especially almost all of 2022), and never plays a dam home game. This will be the 4th Offense he's going to have to learn in 5 years; hopefully it's his last. LET'S GO CHARGERS FAM! BOLT UP!
