you are a good teacher. finally found a video where someone just plainly explains the layers. was trying to get to the place where i could clean up my linework and make color layers without breaking my back. i like the way you emphasize the terms we need to remember.
This was astonishingly well made, so clear, so helpful, simple, like, i've searched for understanding layers for quite a while now, and u in some minutes explained everything. REALLY, really thank u
Great tutorial, I just watched it today, tomorrow gonna implement it in some easy shapes... U explain, u show and take ur time to let it understand. Many other tutorials are also with an explanation but put in a timelapse and that makes fatigue. U understand some people need the visual synchronized with the explanation. i took already (very first) abbo, liked vid and gonna check out more related cntent of yours... Thx. U have the knowledge plus u know how to bring it to others, so it is useful and great. Kudos
Thank you, @shyfoxx! I'm looking into digital art and hope to start soon. I didn't fully understand how to utilize layers for drawy, and probably won't until I start messing with the software itself, but I do believe I'll have a starting place now, thanks to you. [[Question!!]] In terms of drawing software, which ones would you suggest for beginners? Or someone like me seeking to delve into digital from a traditional background? I'm thinking of starting with procreate. My question for you is, is clip studio free-to-use? What brought you to its program? Many thanks for your time, your video, and imparting your well-earned artistic wisdom. A new friend and follower, Raina. 😅❤
@TheWFLE glad you found the video helpful! Exciting that you're starting out. Clip Studio Paint is not free but I like it because it's an affordable option and has some amazing tools that other programs just don't have. In particular I love the line art tools of CSP. If I were starring out I'd potentially look at Krita. It is the best free option that I know of. Procreate is excellent too and I'd recommend it as well. Best of luck!
Not yet but I'm planning to do that. The brushes I use are usually just basic ones that come in the program like g pen, airbrush, watercolor brush etc. I don't use anything super fancy.
Currently I don't have it as a downloadable option but I think that's something I'll have to do and maybe make a video on blending brushes. My regular brushes I use are defaults CSP ones, the blending one is too I just have specific settings.
Hiya, love your videos but I'm just confused, my layers all start without colour, just the grey and white blocks that suggest theres no background. How do you get it to automatically be coloured?
I've made a tutorial on how to get your canvas a solid color while still being transparent. You can see it here ua-cam.com/video/FWA_k1CLyUE/v-deo.html
Confused! I just got the wacoom small pad, and 1st work on digital art . Question: ' How do you see threw the layers? Do you have to tone down the transparacy on each one ? I can not find an option, every time i choose a different color for the top layer ,it covers all.
I would be turning down transparency or turning off layers temporarily. But I'm not totally sure which part in the video you mean. If it's completely covering what's under it you can try brushes with less opacity, change the opacity etc.
@@Shyfoxx no. My goal and idea is to start with a solid line drawing and. " add" "layers" , however i cant seem to emulate , what you did. Every time i add a new layer ,it covers up the drawing , even when i " move" it to the top ( line layer ) . Thanks for the help. If its confusing my question, i appreciate the effort to help.
@Dannys-Music-Collection based on what I think you're asking, I'll sometimes add layers underneath as well. I'll color underneath a sketch for example and turn down the transparency of the sketch.
@@Shyfoxx argh ! Tried that (3 layers) and is still covers it up ( the 1st line draft). I put the transparent down to zero. On the top layer and its not showing threw. I am also trying to trace from an image and the ame thing happens , i down the transparent on the top layer ( working 2 layers ) and i cant see the original photo. Now i am filling in the top layer with white , to get rid of those bar graph lines , which by the way , how do you get rid of those ? With out having to paint over them .
I don't know why i never thought of clipping a layer in a mode then colouring ***insert facepalm*** I've been doing my work then testing the layer modes....
Thank you so much for this . I understood everything aside the vector layer aspect . Then you said you had an extra tutorial for it and I was genuinely relieved 🥹
Wonderful colouring and thanks for helping an elderly fella progress digitally.
Happy to help!
14:23 and I got this too! You know how many of these I've watched?! Oh my. Thank you
Wow, crazy. Clipping tool may just be the most important tool in this tutorial

How do you open layers? I don’t have layers on mine is it a thing I need to purchase?
It comes with the program. To get the layers panel open go to 'Window' at the top and toggle layers on
