    Brass wool and or a brush is the best way to polish chrome without scratching it. It cleans off the rust and polishes at the same time. Love your videos they are so helpful to me and probably many people like me.

      Good tip! We like it too. It's been hard to find locally.

    Just want to say thank you. It's nice to have this kind of info on video when we need it.

    I took your advise and just purchased the completed assembly. The only thing I don’t like with the repop is the etching on the new glass. I may replace the glass with my original date coded Carlite before I install. The new chrome is going to look great in the 68.5 Cobra Jet.

      I changed the glass out yesterday. The original Carlite fit perfectly.

    I use Mc Kay brake cylinder assembly lube works great with rubber parts

    Soapy water works great to lube rubber while getting it seated in the channel. Also, a mix of soap and rubbing alcohol will work.

    If you are trying to get really shiny chrome or silver paint look. First spray the material in a high gloss black. If possible wet sand to 1000 grit before spraying chrome/silver.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому

      Good point! that area is so small wet sanding it would require a magnifying glass. LOL

    I just completed this project, Id like to add some details i feel need to be address that are missing from this video .i was able to COMPLETELY ELIMINATE ALL THOSE BARREL RIVETS during my assembly.
    1. use 5/32 x 3/8 POP rivets for division bar to frame. (2ea per side). these holes may need to be opened slightly to fit 5/32 pop rivet
    2. use 2-part urethane panel adhesive (3m, loctite) instead of those micro tiny barrel rivets for the rubber seal that attaches to division bar.
    3. you can even use a 5/32 x 1/4 POP rivet for that stupid rubber tip seal.
    problem with pop rivets is you need a spacer between the rivet and gun to fit the rivet gun inside the division bar track and BUT then there is no bite left on the rivet nail, make sure to buy pop rivets with long nail mandrels, could be hard to find? was for me
    $100 per side to rebuild or $366 per side to buy outright, you decide, thats a $620 total savings hmmm

    I spray CRC / WD40 on the rubber components to make installation easier

      I'd have to do the same thing you're going to have to do, which is contact National Parts Depot to see if they stock that screw.

    Where did you get the stripping for the vent window itself? Mine is mostly missing and the glass wants to fall out.

    What type and size of rivets were used it the rivet gun?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 роки тому

      Honestly, it depends on the hole. I have a set bunch of rivets that I got from Harbor freight and I will size them accordingly.

      He's not. Cam is very very sharp probably one of the sharpest mechanics I know for his age group. And I bet chumley is not all that dumb either to be honest with you. =)
