I think at this point rigs that big just add way more stress to camping trips rather than providing an escape. Reason we decided to stay at 28 feet or smaller, even then you still have a lot to worry about before enjoying a camping trip.
We fell into the "buy as big a rig as you can afford! You'll need the space!" trap. 8 years later, our 32' Class C is waaaay more than we need. Having to be mindful of roads, of the amount of room to park your rig, the worry that the campground road will make it hard to maneuver.... That takes away a lot of the fun. Some people want to haul all the conveniences of home with them. Others discover that isn't necessary. For us, getting AWAY from the trappings of a stix 'n brix is what makes us happy, not taking it all with us. We've calculated, from the amount we carry, that we'd easily fit it all, plus have living room, in a 17' TT. It seems some really want the big rig, but I advise newbies to make a serious evaluation and decide if they HAVE to have all the bells 'n whistles. Thankfully you folks have the skill of teamwork to overcome the issue of size when moving it around.
I love Ginnie Springs! It's one of the last privately owned springs in that part of Florida and the best part is you can still drink a beer while floating in your tube (unlike all the state parks full of "no this," "no-that," "no-no," etc. rules!
Great video, love the channel and really love the truck. We had our floor rip from a small rock. After research we found its an easy fix. you'll need a hair dryer, wood glue, wax paper and a 5lbs dumbbell or other heavy object. heat the area to get the wrinkles out and make it playable. Ten put a little glue under it. Put wax paper on it and then the weight. Do each hole one at a time. I swear you cant even tell where ours was, and it was in the middle of the floor about 4x4 area. Safe travels.
We have a 44ft toy hauler and love it! If you travel more than you park a shorter RV would be fine, we tend to stay in one place for a while and then move on. One of the benefits of being retired! You do have to be more careful with a big 5th wheel, our combined length is 63ft and gross combined weight is a little over 30,000lbs. Don't beat up on us cause we like a big camper! And yes, we do haul a "toy" with us. We have noticed some campgrounds are a little optimistic about what will fit in their sites when you make a reservation. Happy Camping!
Yes, 40' is way too big. Especially if you like to get off the beaten path. Size severely limits where you can go. Been there, done that. I have a 20' now and love it.
I was so excited about upgrading from my 31' 5th wheel to my 46' toy hauler, I didn't think enough about the types of spaces available at RV parks, especially older ones! I quickly learned that just because they tell you they have plenty of room to get you in, it doesn't mean that you can actually get in. 😩 If you actually get in, you might also have problems getting out!!!😂 Also learned that if you want to get a spot at a place that can handle your rig, you gotta plan/make reservations further ahead. Haven't tried harvest host yet, but might have to look into it! Been doing a lot more "glamping" since I got it...
OMG! I know how stressful that is reserving a site and arriving and it’s no where near the length or width indicated on their web site. Oh, and those turkey vultures brought back a memory I hadn’t even thought about in years.. lol. My parents contracted with the ACOE and ran a campground at Barren River Lake in Southern Kentucky, mid-summer the Turkey Vultures started attacking and kept attacking the rubber roof on their RV. LOL.. my father would run out of the check in booth, grab the water hose and blast them, it did not one bit of good! They just kept returning. The Rangers had no idea why the birds were behaving that way, they said it had never happened before. They ended up trapping I think about 30 of those birds and relocating them. ACOE did pay to have their roof replaced. Craziness! Y’all have safe travels and God Bless. ✝️🙏🏻🇺🇸
This may have already been mentioned, why not run around and back in from the blind side. You’d have more room to swing with the truck. But if site was occupied when leaving you may not be able to get out. We like to camp with friends with 40’ 5er, they are really picky on where they think it will fit! Kinda takes the fun out or it. I will stick to my 32’ 5er. Won’t go bigger!

I know how frustrating some sites are to park in but I am lucky because our unit is only 38 feet and my husband drove super transports for over 40 yrs. You did great! We’ve been to Ginny Springs; and couldn’t fathom bringing our 27 footer in (granted it was a warmer season and the weekend when we went so it was PACKED!). Kudos for getting such a large rig in!

Yes parking is the worst part of RVing. We are going to have to give up our motorhome do to illness but I did love it.. please enjoy it while you’re young.
We camped with our kids from about the age of your kids until they left the house. I think that was our best times and memories. You guys seem to have a very nice family. We couldn’t have done what you’re doing full time because of my work but that would have been such a great experience. I hope and pray that they take their kids someday and enjoy it as much as we did. Such awesome memories! I miss those days. My wife and I are now almost at retirement in our mid 50’s and looking to go full time within a couple years! Enjoy your videos.
Great episode as usual!! P.s. Whenever I'm in a steep site with my 32ft- I chalk the wheels while still hitched up. Then I pop the truck in neutral and slowly let the camper weight rest on the chalks. Then using R or D I let the truck move slightly to release my hitch tension, Then I know when I un hook to level out my rv weight has already come to rest on the chalks and won't wiggle backwards or forwards and bend my stabilizers or front jack.
Big 5th wheel can be a challenge. On our 2nd 40' (actually the the 380FL is 42' officially) 5th wheel and continue to find ways to fit into sites that might be a little tight for a slow turning rig. I have a 200' long driveway I need to back down at home every time we take the RV out that gives LOTS of practice in reverse... A level head and working with the CG can usually get that sorted and you guys did exactly that.
Pedestal princess, I love it, but you know Melissa you really are a princess in many ways, but only in a good sort of way. It was fun watching Nathan park your rig. It wasn't easy but he did it. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
You folks are the BEST! I also had neighbors that were Jack zzx. At least yours had 4 legs and you could pet them. I only have a 39 ft and I have problems at 1k trails. Keep up the great videos, hope no more bugs want a close view of your blue eyes.
We love Harvest Hosts, too! And although we did not meet at a Harvest Host, we DID meet in a campground! I pulled my 16’ Bambi Airstream in next to his 30’ International Airstream… and when he saw my canoe on top of the car and my long haired chihuahuas (he had both, too!), he decided to pop over and say.. “Hey Airstream Neighbor!” That was four years ago this May 6… and we are getting married on that day! In two months!
And this is exactly why we scaled way back down from our first one, it was 40 ft. and the only reason we bought it was because I had to live in it five hours away from home while doing cancer treatment. A year later we have a much shorter TT and can enjoy so many more places with a lot less hassle and stress. My husband has been pulling huge livestock trailers his whole life plus has a CDL, plus I barrel raced and hauled horses for years as well so we were both experienced but just didn’t want the limitations that these huge houses on wheels add. We have our big Keystone parked on our property and enjoy our journeys so much more now that we scaled way down. In this case it should be called “More Junk and Stressful Journey.” I used to watch y’all awhile back and y’all had a much smaller rig, what the heck happened? Safe travels!
Great job with that parking Nathan! We saw someone fling their flaming marshmallow through the air trying to put it out. Well it flung off the the stick and stuck to a tree still on fire! 😳 So they are now called "flaming balls of goo" by our family.
Ginnie Springs rearranged the electric site's several years ago to get more spots. We went one year and everything was fine went back the next year and the same lot number was now a lot smaller. It's great if you are tent camping or have a trailer under 30 feet .
Cute you all went to a Harvest Host and you saw animals there. I liked when you Marissa and you Nathan sounded off how you talked to the pigs. That was cute and funny.

Backing up into a tight space is always hard. My Motorhome is only 33ft so somewhat easier for me. Such a great feeling when it's done and your all set up for camping. We are still in snow up here couple more months and we'll be camping. Until then we get to watch you guys! hahaha
Credit for trying so hard to park in the first spot. I am not good at watching my husband park, backing up is my most fearful / stressful time. I will get used to it , I hope. We have 5th wheel , some parks are not equipped for many large trailers.
The secret about learning how to back and park a long trailer. Take your safety Cones out and place them the width of a parking spot on a open Parking lot such as a super market and then practice backing in from all different Directions. That is how I learned to back in and park as a very young man over 65 years ago. I have mastered backing the Three Trailer Highway Trains we pulled on the Kansas Turnpike between Kansas City to Oklahoma City. I love going to Truck Rodeo's and showing my skills. I have won several trophies as well as some really great $$$$$.$$ bet's. I only know of five people and three are women who can back a three Trailer Train into a spot. The only other man was from Idaho .
I haven’t watched you in a very long time (I have no idea why), but that is a giant rig. It’s gorgeous, but huge. I can’t imagine the stress in parking that. Nathan, you do a fabulous job! We have a baby Grand Design Imagine - loving it! Oh, the burned marshmallow 😕
I watch you guys with my doggos. We live full time in our rv as well. When daddy starting throwing the little man about in play, my beagle freaked out and attacked my TV! She didn't understand it was play and wanted to protect him. I had to calm her over the pillow fight. My girls adore your kids. Maybe we'll run into ya one day!
That's a pretty level site compared to the campgrounds around me lmao I've seen some so unlevel that they used at least 2 stacks of leveling blocks on the front most leveling jacks and that still wasn't quite enough.

Good job on that parking job. We have trouble parking our 28 ft in some places! We stayed at a very small RV park on our trip through Ohio last fall. We decided to leave before dawn and forgot to walk out where the exit was. It was not well marked and we ended up hitting the corner of the manager’s wooden fence. Didn’t think we would be able to get it unstuck but did with some minor damage to trailer and the fence. We did contact them when they opened to offer to pay for any damage. It was very stressful. But, we survived it and continued on our trip.

Nathan is awesome parking that rig and keeping his cool. At least, that's what you are showing us. LOL! My husband would have had choice words after the first attempt and we would have been out of there. My hat's off to Nathan. That was a cool Harvest Host locations; for not only the kids; but, the adults can enjoy the animals as well.

Many people watch your videos; but, we really don't see all the stress that, the 'on the road' life can entail. A lot can go wrong when you are moving around. It takes special people to do this life style successfully. I admire all that can pull it off. Then add two young children and home schooling into the equation; and, it boggles my mind. Our 5th wheel is 44 ft and know the limitations of certain campgrounds/site, but, wouldn't give up the space and comfort we have. I haven't camped at Ginny since my tent camping days 20 something years ago. Ginny was a big adult party zone so hope you didn't experience that with the kids.

On that first campsite, I would have pulled straight into that empty campsite across the road and backed in straight into your campsite. You probably get a million of these “I would’ve….” But I was talking to my TV so I thought I would comment! 😊 Love your channel!
The first site you was trying to pull into site 79 why didn't you just turn the rig to the right pull straight into the area with the picnic table and then back into site 79. From the video and lack of people around in the area I think that would been the ticket. I'm a retired truck driver and when your pulling a 53 foot trailer behind you have to get creative and use every inch of ground to maneuver into areas your trying to park. But in the end you guys found a spot that worked out. Good job.!

Wow! Great job Nathan. I'd have just noped it. That rig is perfect for your stage in life but I can't imagine trying to park something that big. The biggest I've ever had was a 32 foot MH but at my stage in life even that is too big.
It all depends on what and where you want to use your RV. We just ditched our 5th wheel and the long box truck for a 24’ TT with no slides and a short box super cab. We like to remote camp and get into our National parks. Sometimes big isn’t always better. Good luck.
We loved that style of travel with the Airstream. Just tough living in it Fulltime with two kids. We are in a season of needing the space for now, but I’m sure we will get there again.
That first spot looked like a piece of cake. All you would have had to do is pull into that big open area where the picnic table is at and back straight in instead of trying to do a 45. Second spot looked way harder 😂

Having towed trailers for work I don't miss backing them up. Love our Class A for this reason. Mirrors and 3 cameras and I can put it anywhere.

Haven’t watched in a while, my your kids have grown! But so has your rig! 40’ is nuts. It’s like pulling a park model. I’m sure you have your reasons but I don’t see the space being worth the stress.

Backing up into a tight space is always hard. My Motorhome is only 33ft so somewhat easier for me. Such a great feeling when it's done and your all set up for camping.
We are still in snow up here couple more months and we'll be camping. Until then we get to watch you guys! hahaha
You could have pulled into the campsite cross from the first one and back in between the trees.

Credit for trying so hard to park in the first spot. I am not good at watching my husband park, backing up is my most fearful / stressful time. I will get used to it , I hope. We have 5th wheel , some parks are not equipped for many large trailers.
The secret about learning how to back and park a long trailer. Take your safety Cones out and place them the width of a parking spot on a open Parking lot such as a super market and then practice backing in from all different Directions. That is how I learned to back in and park as a very young man over 65 years ago. I have mastered backing the Three Trailer Highway Trains we pulled on the Kansas Turnpike between Kansas City to Oklahoma City. I love going to Truck Rodeo's and showing my skills. I have won several trophies as well as some really great $$$$$.$$ bet's. I only know of five people and three are women who can back a three Trailer Train into a spot. The only other man was from Idaho .

I watch you guys with my doggos. We live full time in our rv as well. When daddy starting throwing the little man about in play, my beagle freaked out and attacked my TV! She didn't understand it was play and wanted to protect him. I had to calm her over the pillow fight. My girls adore your kids. Maybe we'll run into ya one day!
That's a pretty level site compared to the campgrounds around me lmao I've seen some so unlevel that they used at least 2 stacks of leveling blocks on the front most leveling jacks and that still wasn't quite enough.

Good job on that parking job. We have trouble parking our 28 ft in some places! We stayed at a very small RV park on our trip through Ohio last fall. We decided to leave before dawn and forgot to walk out where the exit was. It was not well marked and we ended up hitting the corner of the manager’s wooden fence. Didn’t think we would be able to get it unstuck but did with some minor damage to trailer and the fence. We did contact them when they opened to offer to pay for any damage. It was very stressful. But, we survived it and continued on our trip.
A lot of camp sites are not designed for anything for over 30ft. Especially the older places. At least that is what I encountered

I would've stayed at site 79 and drove into the site across the street and backed up straight into 79 no problem.

Nathan is awesome parking that rig and keeping his cool. At least, that's what you are showing us. LOL! My husband would have had choice words after the first attempt and we would have been out of there. My hat's off to Nathan. That was a cool Harvest Host locations; for not only the kids; but, the adults can enjoy the animals as well.
It was a wonderful HH. We held it together pretty good. We have our argue moments for sure parking.
@@LessJunkMoreJourney I can believe it. If my husband and I were doing that; it would not go well. That's why we will never do what you guys are doing. Sad; but, true. Many people watch your videos; but, we really don't see all the stress that, the 'on the road' life can entail. A lot can go wrong when you are moving around. It takes special people to do this life style successfully. I admire all that can pull it off. Then add two young children and home schooling into the equation; and, it boggles my mind. My hats off to the Moss Family!
Our 5th wheel is 44 ft and know the limitations of certain campgrounds/site, but, wouldn't give up the space and comfort we have. I haven't camped at Ginny since my tent camping days 20 something years ago. Ginny was a big adult party zone so hope you didn't experience that with the kids.
And I thought that I was the only one that had trouble getting into tight spots...sometimes I have trouble getting into easy spots LOL. Love Harvest Hosts/Boon-dockers Welcome for new adventures and experiences.

I've seen a lot of 5th wheels with a tripod under the hitch for support. Might be a good idea to have one on hand for moments like this!

Just upgraded from a 34' 5th wheel to a 43' 5th wheel. Haven't used the new rig yet but definitely something on my mind is the size.

We had trouble twice with our 31 foot. 1st time we used it we went to pigeon forge had to back into a space against the creek oh my stars we almost went into it. Memories. Then it was hard pulling into a space at lake pontchartrain in Louisiana!! I hear ya about being the helper to guide in. Oh I actually remember 2 other times, I told my husband just let the guy do it hehe we only have a 31 foot 5 th wheel . Love your videos

this is one of the reasons ill never going back to hauling a trailer around. 45foot motor coach is the best bet for constant travel.
On that first campsite, I would have pulled straight into that empty campsite across the road and backed in straight into your campsite. You probably get a million of these “I would’ve….” But I was talking to my TV so I thought I would comment! 😊 Love your channel!
We tried and the other issue is we would be stuck when someone was in the spot. 😀

The first site you was trying to pull into site 79 why didn't you just turn the rig to the right pull straight into the area with the picnic table and then back into site 79. From the video and lack of people around in the area I think that would been the ticket. I'm a retired truck driver and when your pulling a 53 foot trailer behind you have to get creative and use every inch of ground to maneuver into areas your trying to park. But in the end you guys found a spot that worked out. Good job.!

Wow! Great job Nathan. I'd have just noped it. That rig is perfect for your stage in life but I can't imagine trying to park something that big. The biggest I've ever had was a 32 foot MH but at my stage in life even that is too big.

It all depends on what and where you want to use your RV. We just ditched our 5th wheel and the long box truck for a 24’ TT with no slides and a short box super cab. We like to remote camp and get into our National parks. Sometimes big isn’t always better. Good luck.
We loved that style of travel with the Airstream. Just tough living in it Fulltime with two kids. We are in a season of needing the space for now, but I’m sure we will get there again.

They are residential couches we exchanged for the RV ones.
That first spot looked like a piece of cake. All you would have had to do is pull into that big open area where the picnic table is at and back straight in instead of trying to do a 45. Second spot looked way harder 😂
