Meet the six teams training together at the Ice Academy of Montreal in Canada for the Olympic Games Beijing 2022. Gabriella and Guillaume reflect on their PyeongChang experience. Madison and Zach have some on-ice tension and speak about their emotional connection and Scott Moir tells us what it takes to be an Olympic champion.
Filmed in the last six months leading up to Beijing 2022, On Edge is the Olympic Channel’s first weekly figure skating reality docuseries chronicling the day-to-day lives of six teams from five countries training at the Ice Academy of Montreal.

Scott looks a little tired, but his voice will be perfect for an ice dance documentary; such legends he and Tessa are. Also, hope Gabi and Guillaume get the gold medal this time, they absolutely deserve it.
He's got a new baby at home and he's coaching full time so it's not surprising he's pretty pooped.

@@sitting_nut perhaps, if the camp wasn't famous already it would look a little suspicious, but the academy of Montreal has been famous since the moment that Gabriella/Guillaume won their 1st WC and Virtue/Moir joined and won the Olympic Gold. There's nothing odd with wanting to know more about one of the most successful skating schools in the world.
@@marianaramirez4931 nor its extremely odd for an official channel like this to do this. by all means let private or national media, or sponsors, do it, but an official channel like this shouldn't be selective among competing athletes in any away before the competition. everyone should be treated equally. this reeks of corruption and fixing.
Scott is a Daddy now, plus new job, new responsibilities. No wonder he sounds tired.

I love seeing Scott as a coach! Him sitting there being all humble when him and Tessa are the greatest of all time!
I'm a Tessa & Scott Tragic but I want to see Gabriella and Guillaume on the podium with that gold medal so badly it hurts. It will be like hearing the happy ending to a story which was great but with a flaw and then the flaw is gone. I hope they skate so well the very ice catches fire. Scott and Tess are incredible and will always be remembered as one of the best (if not the best) ice dance teams, but the French uff! It is their time to shine and achieve all the victories.
I love that he speaks so highly of Gabi and Guillaume too.

I'm rooting so hard for Madison Chock & Bates. They have stunningly amazing programs and their elements are mesmerizing. Chock & Bates work hard, are very sincere people, and commit to their craft to deliver truly unique and amazing dance programs that the audience loves. They absolutely deserve a medal.

its happened for so many years in ice dance though. Tessa and Scott trained in Michigan with Meryl and Charlie, and then trained in Montreal with Gabi and Guillaume, so for the last three olympics, and presumably the upcoming one the gold medallist and silver medallist have the same coaches

@@MRosezhahira considering there was a lot of talk in Sochi that marina completely favoured Davis and White over VirtueMoir, yeah I’m sure it would be insane. And probably always feel like you couldn’t truly trust your coach. However I don’t think VM had thst problem with Marie and Patch
@@shannoncain8377 You know what's up. Getting hella tired as a Canadian watching the French, Russian and American skating feds be slimeballs in the back and inflate scores like a bouncing castle.
Edit: Though, if I'm fair, Davis/White bothered my the least out of Boitano, Manly, Stojko, and S/P because of all the situations where Canadians athletes have been seemingly fucked over, D/W were far and away the best competition. I expected there to be less than a point difference either way, though.
Wish luck to all these amazing athletes. Yet, my heart goes to Gabriella and Guillaume!
Yeah it's gonna be a bloodbath to get on that podium. So interested to see how it turns out.
I honestly think the bloodbath will be for the bronze medal. Unless something happens I'm almost positive Papadakis/Cizeron will win and Sinitsina/Katsalapov will get second. The bronze could be taken by the other Russian team, the Canadian team, or either of the American teams.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 i used to think that Gabi and Guillaume have the gold medal in their pockets, but seeing how the judges scored Victoria and Nikita at the NHK Trophy has me worried 🤔
@@marianaramirez4931 How so? Unless I am reading them wrong, Victoria and Nikita's overall scores at the NHK were at least six points less then Gabi and Gillaume's at the French Cup.
@@xxwhispersxx2856Yes, and for the untrained eye that wouldn't be a worry. But once you take a litte look at the the overall score there's a lot behind those numbers. Starting with the Rhythym dance: S/K got a level 3 in the twizzels for her, got a level 2 (for her) and a level 3 (for him) in the pattern dance (PSt) which take away about .40 pts. in technical scores an another grade of execution (GOE) in the program component score (PC) and their rotational lift got a 3 level. All of those "mistakes" take away from them about 3 or 4 points in total. Which let's be honest, they will get in the Olympics because the judges likes them: they got the exact number of 10s that Gabi and Guillaume in the PC's.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 Now for the Free Dance. S/K got a 1 level One foot steep sequence (OFStW/M) for her and a 2 level for him (Gabi and Guillaume got 4 and 3 respectively), got a 2 level Midline steep sequence (MiSt) (G/G got a 3 level in their Diagonal steep sequence - DISt), again that made them to lose technical points, grades of execution and program component scores. And you can see here AGAIN that the judges like them: they got one 10 more than G/G got in France; Victoria and Nikita=58.62 in PCs, Gabi and Guillaume=58.67 in PCs.
Unfortunately Ice Dance is the most subjective of the four categories of skating and i think, after all of those years of observing how this works, they gonna make the race for the gold medal much more closer as the season goes by. They did it at Europeans in 2019, they definitely would do it again.

All these ice dancers are phenomenal! They have the best coaches...I especially like Samuel Chouinard as he brings a lot of energy to them! Looking forward to all of them compete at the upcoming winter Olympic games! In my eyes, they all are winners!

Fantastic! I love this behind the scenes look at these teams. I love watching each of them for different reasons. Hopefully we will see more of Olivia and Adrian next episode, they have the best programs this season! Madi and Evan are my fav overall; I’d love to see them with a Grand Prix, Olympic, or Worlds medal in 2021-2022.

this is not the job of official channel, which should be as unbiased as possible. there are plenty of sponsors, national and private media, fans, etc etc to do this.

I wasn't really a fan of them back then, because they used to be rather "controversial" figures in ice dance lol but I got to enjoy them more this season, I actually see much improvements, especially in Gabi!

@@rivkagershovitz7197 they used to be rather pretentious and incredibly overscored lol. not to say there was a lot of bad sportsmanship coming from Gabby in the past- in 2018 she said V/M comeback destroyed the family dynamic at their rink, she also reposted on Instagram stories calling her and Guillaume the "real" champions. it also happened at Euros 2020, Worlds 2017(here also Cizeron was posting some shady stuff). they also kept saying how their art is the most important aspect of their skating and not medals- which is pretty funny when you think how outraged they were when lost a competition. they also at one point said their favorite program was V/M's Pink Floyd just to absolutely backtracking after 2017 Worlds saying they're never watching ice dance, they weren't inspired by any other skaters, they are inspired by some underground dance groups from Montreal and other bs lol. there was also a thing about them kinda "skipping" challengers and doing only major competitions which some people found questionable if they're so focused on showing their art why do only the most important competitions and not some smaller ones as well. sorry I didn't respond to your comment immediately but oddly enough missed the notification.
Wonderful! I love ice dancing so much and Gabriella and Guillaume are my very favs. From Montreal school I also like Madi and Evan, Allison and Saulius and Lilah and Lewis. Laurence and Nick have a tremendous potential too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Virtue/Moir devotee, but I think even Scott realizes that Papadakis and Cizeron are better skaters. If it hadn't been for that wardrobe malfunction, I truly believe V/M would've taken 2nd. That said, I adore Tessa and Scott and loved their 2018 program and was so thrilled to see them win.

I’m struggling with my health…..I was a Jazzeriser for 27 year, I would never make a ice dancer but all of you continue you to motivate my body with your beautiful shows.

@@user-zc4hs6et7d Русский, критикующий коучинг, пока существует лагерь Тутберидзе, - это весело. Лучше тренер-новичок и даже без медалей, чем калечить своих дочерей к 20 годам. Назад, наверное, к скотоводству советского типа. Интересно, скольким из этих бедных молодых девушек их тренеры продали мечту стать следующей Родниной только для того, чтобы быть выброшенными, как использованный хлам, через 3 или 4 года после начала соревнований старшего уровня.

Hace 2 meses subieron este video y ya se veía una enorme desconexion entre Cizeron y Papadakis, ellos que han sido tan unidos, se ven tan secos, fríos, distanciados, desconectados, no brillan como antes.
Las otras parejas se ven complementadas y unidas.
