We stop to catch one of the many short demos on offer at Spoonfest - Dave Fisher gives an interesting insight into how he uses his adze - a tool used commonly in bowl carving - to great effect when roughing out his spoon blanks.

Great presentation and advice. Many thanks!
When David was chopping down the side of the spoon I was gripping my chair. Even a master can slip and have a boo boo. Great information! I'm off to modify my chopping block this morning! Thanks Barn & David!
Golden content here! I love Dave and his work! So inspiring! Thanks a lot for sharing!!!

@Kason Nikolas It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Bridger Charlie Happy to help :)
Nice video guys x JP
Mellow music, birds chirping in the background, spoon carvers doing their thing…and a dude in a Napalm Death shirt. Good times.
Does anyone have any advice for sharpening an adze? I don't have a bench grinder and I'm a.bit clueless
Could you make a spoon from steambent wood? Maybe leftovers from a bending project's corners or leftover ends...?
Hi @sethwarner2540 - we've defintely seen people work with steam bent wood before - although in this case the blank was bent specifically to make a spoon rather than being an offcut / leftover
I want to buy an adze that's suitable for making bowls and spoons, does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you
Hi Anna - for our bowl carving courses at the green wood guild, we use 35mm Hans Karlsson gouges.
I know he said he wasn't about creating demand for the adze. But damn it, I demand an adze in my shop. Gotta have me one of those Hans Karlsson's by the end of this year.
Did you get one? The waiting list is for eternity, LoL
@@elim7228 no :/
@@elim7228 but to be fair 8 haven't been actively trying for the past year
He modified your chopping block, Barn. LOL Great video, thanks for sharing.
