no, I don’t think that’s true. I think that steam launched a compelling handheld and lots of people enjoy the compelling handheld. While I would like to live in a world where people have principles and support good things. I have been rudely awakened by seeing what actually happens in the real world. When Xbox live was introduced and later on the 360, they started selling cosmetic items for your avatars. I knew as soon as people started buying that garbage we were in for a horrible future. Well, people bought horse armor and now that horrible micro transaction cell the game as piecemeal DLC rather than buying a whole game all at once is here. Gamers by large are Simps who will actually purchase gamer girl bathwater from E girls... Don't expect these people to resist the corporate overlords so long as they sell them something they can play le games on. Given a choice, I would always back valve over Microsoft, I’m just saying I wouldn’t place my bet that A MAJORITYother people have the same level of integrity
Idk I hard disagree, I loved the steam deck but was thirsty for multiplayer games, anti cheats and software and game pass that can't run on linux. Once i got the dual boot sorted and win11 to a stable point I feel like I could happily live without all of my other tech if I had to. I wish for everyone to enjoy a good dual boot but it gets a lot of hate on the deck 🤷♂️
That's very true (and we love the switch, bang on about it ALL the time) the point I should've been clearer is by saying about Xbox & PlayStation players.
As a console to steam deck convert, I'd have to say that no, an xbox (or dedicated/local playstation) handheld won't kill the steam deck or the handheld pc craze in general. I loved my PS3, loved the 360, but when I got to PS4 and xbox one, I played them for a while and thought.. "well that's just a pc, innit?" Except a locked-down PC with all of the annoyances and none of the benefits of console gaming. Then PS5 and xbox series looked like more of the same and I just lost all interest. Got a steam deck instead and was met with terrific amounts of freedom (more even than my hacked consoles), crazy-good backwards compatibility for games that came out decades ago, and sales the likes of which consoles have never seen. I went from having like 10 steam games before the deck to over 200 after, and wouldn't go back. And I'm sure there are many other formerly console gamers like me.
Yup, steamdeck is a console and a computer if you want. Alot of console like comfort yet freedom to do more then potentially windows PCs. Its crazy good, hard to see why playstation or xbox exist anymore outside of ego.
Same. I have been a PC gamer since the early 2000s (my last console at that point was a PS2), and the Switch brought me back to console gaming in 2019. I was actually going to get a PS5 last year and was initially dismissive of the Steam Deck (I was defending my Switch lol). However, when I heard that the Steam Deck could emulate PS2 games, that sold it for me. I tried to emulate PS2 on my 17" HP laptop when I was in college, but it was very unplayable, and yet, this HANDHELD could do it? Crazy. And also, this thing could emulate Switch too?? I sold my Switch, games, and accessories in a bundle to get the Steam Deck and it was the best move I ever made. I have over 400 games on mine from all the old consoles and more. Everything from SNES to PS3 is on there, Switch, and hell even non-Steam PC games are on there like StarCraft 2. And even more crazy, I have Windows 98 emulated on there via PCem app, so I'm now even able to play games from my childhood that I never even thought I'd even see again. Games from when I was 6 years old (I'm 36 now) on my old family computer from ages past. So yeah, even if this new Xbox handheld is technically more powerful, because it's still a console, it's a closed system and therefore won't be better than the Steam Deck. And if the Steam Deck 2 comes out using the same form factor, I might upgrade, and if I do, that might be the last gaming device I ever need.
@@mmgregoire1 Honestly, the Steam Deck is the best gaming device I've ever had. You couldn't even dream of something like this existing even 10 years ago. That would've been a fantasy device, but here we are. 🙂
@@amit_patel654 Ive been a PC gamer since 1984 haha. Ive tried most consoles. steamdeck is brilliant. I have simpleton friends using it effectively that could hardly use their playstations. The only thing I can see as a valid arguement (which consumers shoudl boycot and demand deck) is that no NHL games and particular franchises are on it yet.
Personally I am way too invested in the Steam eco-system (like many others) to feel that anything can "kill off" the Steam Deck value-wise. For me there's no value in subscription models or enclosed console ecosystems. What matters to me is good games. Hopefully Microsoft can deliver just that. Especially now, in a time where the AAA industry often fails to hit the mark. Sure, a lot of UE5 games seem to be just slightly to demanding for the Steam Deck, but yet I haven't found a UE5 title I want to play.
I kept thinking about the Rocket Launcher from Quake III Arena but not sure they had Rocket Launcher only mode. The way people played might as well have been. haha
I’ve recently subscribed and I love these shows. I watched the whole thing and it’s a gem to see Brits doing a show about stuff I find interesting, keep it up lads!
If anything, both an Xbox handheld and this supposed Sony one need to justify why I should invest in either closed box device when I can access both Xbox and PlayStation games, plus PC games, plus everything you can do with a PC, on my Legion Go( previously owned a Deck).
Not xbox. But I have many sony PS games, I want to play on a sony handheld with real ps controls and feels just like on my PS4/PS5. I dont need high res or high fps on PC, just good old games as they are. And Bloodborne of course :)
Nah, won't and never will for me. Steam Deck (OLED 1TB) is too awesome already, probably one of my best purchases this year despite only having for less than a week so far!
PlayStation demos is now game trails, every game over a certain cost i think its £40+ has to have a game trail within 3 months of being on the store or something like that. I think Microsoft have to enter in at around £450- £500 but i also think they will do two versions of their handheld
Not really, Nintendo have their exclusives, Sony has some exclusives that are worth it (And could make a killing if they released the PS1-2-3-4 backlog onto its marketplace) and Xbox has... Nothing special really. Nothing I can think of that others don't have. And since I already have built up an enormous library in games in Steam I doubt I'll switch to another more proprietary model.
In general, maybe not, but it absolutely has gotten some people to switch over (source: I'm one of them). I think most people just haven't yet come to the conclusion I did: that modern consoles are nothing more than locked down PCs without most of the benefits their predecessors once had, and it makes more sense to migrate to something that's *not* locked down like that. And I think as time goes on, more people will realize that, and xbox/playstation will become less relevant. Unless, like Nintendo, they go back to offering enough high-quality *exclusives* to pull people into their ecosystem. Which seems unlikely, given the state of AAA gaming today...
X box handheld isn't doing jack,it's just going to be a bunch of pander games on the go along with games that you don't get to actually own. With a subscription service. On steam online is free because Pc.

Those console handhelds will never be able to do what a portable pc can do in terms of versatility & how you control & tweak your own user experience. Since all current gen xbox games are already available on pc & therefore already playable on pc handhelds, I fail to see the point of this exercise. If it’s to compete with Nintendo, what a truly dumb idea. Those ppl are only there for Zelda & Mario & if you ain’t offering Zelda & Mario they ain’t interested. You can’t compete against the core of what a switch represents. Blind allegiance fanboyism. If it’s to compete against portable pcs then dude, you are literally competing against yourself. lool. I think many really don't need all that PC versatility and all that just play games simple and easy. plug and play all my PS games on the go with real PS controler, can't wait.
waiting for 2-3 years or something for a thing that is essentially available today, if you actually want it, doesn’t make any sense. The ppl who are “waiting” for this tech at some point in the distant future when they could easily obtain some variation of it right now clearly don’t truly want it. So when it comes out & it costs a small fortune, good luck succeeding there.
People who buy Steam Decks have an aversion to Windows. That audience isn’t buying a Microsoft product anytime soon.

Steamdeck made PC gaming like a console. better prices, better ecosystem , less lockin and market shenanigans.
100%
If Microsoft is going to focus the handheld on gamepass rather than good portable games, then i dont think its going to sell well.
