As a mexican i'm really impressed by how much you know about indigenous languages and how you are interested in them. There's a lot of people here that discriminate people that speak other languages or worse, the native speakers are embarrassed of speaking an indigenous language. So thank you! Keep the good work.

OMG!! So glad you are learning Turkish next. After living in Germany and reaching an advanced level in German, I turned to Turkish after being initially interested in the immigrant population and it has been quite a journey. While pronunciation was never a big problem since ü and ö exist in German, Turkish is extremely different in terms of its huge vocabulary (I would argue, bigger than German) and its different grammar. Cannot wait to see where you go with that language this year especially!

I'm using the book "Kolay-Gelsin" and I find it particularly interesting because at the end of each chapter it shows you a whole page (in German) about the Turkish culture in certain aspect. So you learn both the languages (German and Turkish) and also some culture. Viel Spaß 😉!!

I enjoyed hearing about your plans for language learning this year. And it gave me a little bit more balanced view on studying and relaxed me a bit. I’ve spent so long just learning Spanish, it’s my first second language and I’ve been feeling guilty about dropping time that I could be advancing my Spanish to learn other languages, but there really isn’t a huge rush at least that’s what I’m telling myself and how your video made me feel. I’m currently maintaining my Spanish while trying to improve vocabulary and more advanced grammar, but currently focusing on Italian because I need to take an Italian exam for citizenship, and finally a little bit of Arabic on the side for some excitement. I’ve struggled with finding a way to balance my study time, which is why I searched “studying multiple languages” and found your channel which I definitely just subscribed to. Thank you for sharing!

i’ve been learning spanish for about 4 years and i really just want to solidify my confidence in it and to be able to truly understand native speakers when they talk (they talk so damn fast that my pea brain can’t keep up). also, similar to you for portuguese, i want to develop my spanish accent because i literally just copy the accent of the person i’m talking to/tv characters/whichever accent was the last one i heard. also, i just started learning korean and i’d like to be able to have basic conversations and talk about myself and daily things by the end of the year (although if i can do more that would also be great). i’m also starting to study french this year. i’m not 100% sure if i’ll love it and i wasn’t planning on learning it (i actually wanted to start learning portuguese instead) but i recently had a long lost cousin that came into my life and his wife is from france and they have 2 young children that speak both french and English, but a lot of the time they’re more comfortable in french. i just want to be able to communicate better with them and i also figured that having a cousin who is a native speaker, and also teaches french, is an extremely beneficial resource. so i’m giving it a shot and hopefully i’ll learn to love it. so all in all, i’m hoping to keep deep diving into spanish, start building a foundation in korean, explore the basics of french and see how i feel about it, and MAYBE start portuguese if i have the time and energy

@AlixWith An I...Impossible for you to reach that kind of standard. Go to another English-speaking country (Northern Ireland perhaps ? ) that doesn´t impose that type of condition/restriction. You know why it´s obligatory for Irish students to learn Irish ? Because the Irish government knows that nobody would bother to choose it if it were an elective subject, and the language would die out overnight. Instead the Government insists on playing a "let´s pretend" game that Irish is still a living language, in order to appease a few Irish language extremists who might be persuaded to vote for them in the next election. Why would you want to live in a country that possesses governments and citizens with that kind of "I´m in denial of reality and prefer to live in the past" mentality ? Let me quickly add that I´m not trying to rain on the parade of your ambitions and aspirations, but simply feel inclined to warn you that you should have a full understanding of what you´re jumping into beforehand.

I've learned some Turkish but I need to study it more, because I started to learn it 4 years ago but only actively studied for around six months (I think it was a very small amount of time).
Despite that, 2020 has somehow become my Turkish year, after having a linguistically inactive 2019 (even that's a lie, because I was picking up some Catalan during that time, as it was easier to me due to it being closer to Spanish, my native language, so I mostly only either read or watched stuff in Catalan, as I tried to avoid language books at all costs, mostly due to school schedules). It paid, as now I'm probably just near B1, I can understand long videos and texts in Catalan now, and I use the dictionary less often.
I've been watching lots of Turkish videos, both educational and about varied topics, now I feel more comfortable with Turkish, though I wouldn't say I'm still at B1 :(

@@giuliaelena8572 Hi, for a getting a grip on the grammar, I suggest Duolingo. It's good for getting a good foundation on the grammar. Once you finish the Italian tree, you should also try a good grammar book to cement those grammar rules. As you work through the book, also try those Duolingo stories as well as reading easy news articles (they may be difficult at first but just note the difficult words and work through them, you will get a hang of it). All the best with your Italian studies :)

For your Turkish here is the list of few resources you may go through (not sure how do these fit into your whole German plan).
    To get started
    1. Babble is by far the best structured course to get started with. Policed without any glitch.
    2. Bussu is also good to get you started but it you nowhere near to Babble in degree of refinement. Further their reinforcement system is totally broken.
    For speaking
    3. If you want to go into speaking language then Language transfer if the best resource. It is like pimsleur but free and average lesson is 5-10 minutes long. I really liked it.
    4. Pimsleur course is also good but only 30 lessons.
    For listening-
    5. Turkish classes 101 is good. There are 90 lessons at beginners level plus tons of cultural resources.
    6. Turkish Tea Time is another good resource for listening. Podcasts are free but to access transcripts and other resources you have to pay 10 dollar per month.
    For reading practice
    7. LingQ app, bit expensive for somebody living in India, but can be used for few months to improve reading. You can import your own lessons/dialogue/ subtitles and read them.
    8. Readlang browser extension for translating words on clicking them. Free and good.
    You tube channels
    9. Learn Turkish the easy way, new channel but lot of good content coming out every day. Suitable for beginners.
    10. Learn Turkish with Ali Yilmaz, suitable for A2-B2 learners.Fully in Turkish. Live conversation, story videos, grammar videos.
    11. Easy Turkish, colloquial Turkish. A2 to b2 level content.
Ohh wait I forgot to mention SRS tool😆
Memrise is best in this regard.
    Regards

I'm also mostly studying 6 languages this year. Currently, those are: Finnish, Arabic, Tagalog, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indonesian.
    1. Chinese is the one I'll likely be improving the most in, and it's the one I'm the most familiar with already.
    2. Vietnamese and Indonesian I also made a lot of progress in last year, but I still want to keep them up and ensure I retain what I learn. Both have their simplicities and their complexities, but I really enjoy both of them.
    3. Tagalog is because my significant other is Filipino. His family speaks Tagalog, and while they're all fluent in English, I want to connect more with his heritage and with his family on a more intimate level. At first, the initial hold-off was because I couldn't wrap my head around the various markers. But when I finally got the hang of them, the language immediately started making more sense to me.
    4. Arabic is one I've studied in the past, but only to learn the writing system, haha. This has made getting back into it somewhat easier. I'm learning MSA, which is quite difficult, and my progress is quite slow, but it's honestly okay so far.
    5. Finnish is the newest one and the one I'm least familiar with. I've studied agglutinative languages in the past, so most of the concepts are not new to me; additionally, its orthography is basically entirely phonetic and the pronunciation is pretty straightforward. I'm still early into it, but so far, it's not nearly as difficult as people love to purport it being.

I would like to hear about your experience about studying languages in a separated way vs studying them simultaneously. I'm trying to keep up with german, learning french and japanese a little bit everyday. But I'm thinking about studying each of them for a month like you said.
Haha that with german happens me with english, i love academic english but my knowledge of daily expressions is very low :c

Yas girl! I'm learning Turkish too and it's soo fun I love it.
I don't know about learning in German but I can recommend some English learning sources for Turkish:
    Languagetransfer.org (for absolute beginners)
    Elon.io (to practice grammatical structures)
    Tandem (language exchange app)
    And then italki of course!
Bence Türkçe çok ilginç, çok seviyorum! Umarım bu yıl daha fazla Türkçe öğrenebilirim!

My goals for 2021 are mostly the same I had for 2020 😅 German is still my priority (I'm ending my A1 textbooks), French comes second (I'm between advance intermediate and advance... maybe) and English (in maintenance) and Italian (super beginner) share the third place. I'm super excited for 2021, I hope to find enough motivation to study at least for a few minutes every day 😄. BTW, Spanish is my native language, I'm from Argentina. Love your videos Elysse! And happy new year everybody, 2020 is finally ending!

That accent shifting problem is so real! I heard somewhere that we do it because we are auditory learners and memorize and mimick sounds. I do this in Portuguese (I'm learning and am a native Spanish speaker)now that I moved from California to Wisconsin I do it in English too!
