I remember, being 10 years old, going to the record store to buy The Deep by Donna Summers. They told me, they didn't have that 45rpm, but they did have the instrumental version. So, I bought it and, instantly, I became into a big fan of John Barry.
I SURE MISS STRINGS IN MUSIC. IT ADDED SO MUCH DEPTH AND INTEREST TO THE SONG. THE DANCE MUSIC OF TODAY, WELL, IT DOESN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO WHAT THEY DID BACK IN THE DISCO YEARS AND VERY EARLY 80'S. THAT CANDLE WAS BLOWN OUT A LONG TIME AGO.
John Barry simply ruled big time! Well done our beloved John! May God rest your soul, where ever you are! We shall be missing your wonderful music! Your memory will live among us, here in Greece too!
It's one of the those musical compositions that means more than you can explain. Somehow greater than the sum of its parts And we get to go there endlessly. How glorious is music.
I loved the film when it first came out fantastic soundtrack by john barry and I bought the deep single in 1977 by Donna summer, which she sang it beautifully r.i.p john barry and Donna summer.
I'd say it's more, "orchestral and disco-y at the same time" -- funk would have more syncopation in the kick drum, more 7 chords at the very least, etc.
Thank you very much for making this video available. I was 13 when this film was released and captivated me from the get go. It immediately made me want to take up scuba diving, I became certified diver a year later! I later went to Bermuda on vacation and actually did a tour of the cruise ship shown docked in the film! This classic movie still holds up.: great suspense, photography, wonderfully atmospheric John Barry score and great ensemble acting by Jackie Bissett, Robert Shaw, Nick Nolte, Eli Wallach, Louis Gossett Jr. etc.
The vinyl album is the most beautiful shade of blue one could imagine, almost a Maxfield Parrish Blue. When I ordered it through the mail long ago, I was so surprised when I unsealed it and extracted this gorgeous-looking disk! It somehow adds to the music on it. I've been collecting soundtracks since I was in my early teens in the Sixties, and I know when I see a film: "I MUST have that score!" This was one of those times. I also love Barry's Bond music and, especially, his "Somewhere in Time".
I saw this film when I was 14 and it inspired me to learn to SCUBA dive and opened up a beautiful world of experiences to me. I love John Barry's work and will always be a huge fan .
Have this on clear sea blue vinyl. Great soundtrack, I remember the first time I heard this on the radio, took me sailing without ever leaving my room!
Just spectacular so incredibly perfectly matched to the genre of the movie - oceans, waves,, love, adventure and treasure all converted magically in to music….
It was an incredible time. I can still hear this on the car radio on the way to Austin . Then again on the way to freshman orientation at UH. I was 17 then, where did time go? I'm an old man now...but can still feel the excitement of that summer :)
Why hasn't the great John Barry been knighted posthumously ? He is one of the greatest composers of film music and a genius .
John should have won more oscars than he did he was a musical genius.
He did receive 5/Oscars which isn't bad but he definitely should have been nominated more times!
Donna Summer and John Barry gone too soon-we all miss you -thanks for the great music-still playing on You Tube!
The two JOHNS: JOHN BARRY & JOHN WILLIAMS doing what they do best!!!
Theme From The Deep is one of the best music scores of all time. Thanks for the memories John Barry.
yes its great
an incredible soul!
This theme is the best ever
For many, it is a memory of three decades ago when life was young, vibrant, and the future held nothing but promise, great health, and good fortune.
Life WAS much better in the 1970's.
Michael Newman I couldn't agree more!!!
I know what you are referring to. We are all growing old, let's face it. :-)
People still cared about each other and life was much more laid back. I miss pay phones and record stores.
our reefs were healthy
I remember, being 10 years old, going to the record store to buy The Deep by Donna Summers. They told me, they didn't have that 45rpm, but they did have the instrumental version. So, I bought it and, instantly, I became into a big fan of John Barry.
Wow, record stores. Nice.
Always loved this film and soundtrack! Reminds me of when life was simpler, easy going and so much carefree fun!
I totaly agree with you the music now is not a patch on the late seventies and early eighties a great time to b part of miss it loads
'Dance' music today usually does not bear any resemblance to music, you can only listen to it if you are high on drugs.
John Barry was one of the classic film composers.
If it's in the music, it's in the man.
Remember all the Bond films and especially The Living daylights and the Specialist of which should have been the score for Goldeneye
Donna and John, 2 big stars always shine in our heavens now.
What wonderful music. Unquestionably the best soundtrack that I have ever heard. John Barry was a true master.
I was 18, hell where has the years gone. Those classic Barry strings
Me too my friend years go so quick
When life was free and filled with sunny summers and optimism
Was living in Paris, France when this movie came out in 1977. What an amazing city...then
John Barry a great composer and orchestra leader. Has given us so much beauty in music. Timeless music. Many thanks, to John Barry.
John Barry, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith were my 3 favorite film composers during the early 80s when I was collecting soundtracks.
Me too !
and me!
John Barry simply ruled big time! Well done our beloved John! May God rest your soul, where ever you are! We shall be missing your wonderful music! Your memory will live among us, here in Greece too!

🎵 John Barry arranged/orchestrated so many pieces of pure musical genius. This world was so very lucky to have had that man grace its surface. 🎶
Feels so good.....This sound is like instant time travel......Back to a warm summer in the 70's...
Absolutely.. you said it right!
My thoughts as well... I had a great life and friends back then. Not so much any longer... but that is life I suppose!
Nice way of describing it.

I was 11 and saw the movie at the cinema when it came out. I’m so glad I grew up and experienced the 70s a fantastic decade.
Words can't express how much The Deep thrilled me when I first saw it. A real touchstone of my youth here/
One of my favourite film themes. Never tire of hearing it and the Donna Summer version. Barry does Disco, Fantabulosa!
It's one of the those musical compositions that means more than you can explain. Somehow greater than the sum of its parts
And we get to go there endlessly. How glorious is music.
TIME IS CRUEL. IT WAITS FOR NO ONE.
John Barry, truly one of the best.
Moonracker performed by Shirley Bassey, King Kong ('77), and this one, make me dream..
Donna's passing is def going to create my revival for 'The Deep' movie...
Pure quality!
The beat, the violin,the theme!
Fantastic!
ONE OF THE BEST DISCO CLUB MUSIC.
Great rendition of this beautiful John Barry score 🎼🎶🎵🙂
I loved the film when it first came out fantastic soundtrack by john barry and I bought the deep single in 1977 by Donna summer, which she sang it beautifully r.i.p john barry and Donna summer.
Orchestral and funky at the same time, sweet summer music!
I'd say it's more, "orchestral and disco-y at the same time" -- funk would have more syncopation in the kick drum, more 7 chords at the very least, etc.
Unmistakable Barry RIP you've give me so much joy
