  • I am back thank you again to everyone for all your kind messages and support it really helped me in deciding that I will carry on filming, I really do have the best subscribers/friends. I look a bit rough in the intro but last Saturday was a wet and windy day and I had just impaled my jeans on a spike off the gate and walked through what seemed like a jungle haha , I chat a load of rubbish throughout the video I dunno why I rambled on so much and the sound isn't he best but I was alone and didn't wanna be shouting, hope yous enjoy heres some history
Grade II listed, the Andrew Carnegie Library was designed by Thomas Shelmerdine, and built in 1904 as a direct result of a donation from the wealthy industrialist and Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
The aim was built to provide opportunity for a disadvantaged local population - Carnegie himself offering the money to Liverpool to further their aspirations to improve the education of its inhabitants.
The standalone building in its own grounds was one of the largest public libraries in the suburbs with a grand reception area, extensive oak paneling over two floors and hundreds of thousands of books. For more than 50 years it was one of a number of landmarks on Lister Drive - others included a huge power station and the Victorian swimming baths which later became a fishery stockists.
The oak paneling and parquet flooring is largely intact after a decade of neglect The oak paneling and parquet flooring is largely intact after a decade of abandonment
But after a 100 year life as a functioning library and having been underfunded for a significant period, it was closed following health and safety concerns. Unoccupied, the building has been subject to theft, vandalism and neglect and is listed on Liverpool’s Buildings at Risk register.
Tuebrook 2016 is considered to be in the one percent of most deprived wards in the UK and while the power station may be gone the project aims to be the "spark that ignites the regeneration of the wider area".
Lister Steps, which provides childcare facilities in a neighboring temporary building, says it will continue Carnegie's legacy of philanthropy and education, offering opportunity to a new local population in Tuebrook and Old Swan.
"By providing opportunities for people to socialise, learn and participate Lister Steps will support the well-being and development of individuals, groups and local enterprise."
    Happy viewing :)

Welcome back! 😁 Now just where would urbex be without it's foremost UK ambassador 👍 That's a beautiful building, love the archways and the glassblock floors, it would make a great community centre or maybe even a night club. Looked like a pretty dark and scary explore to do solo, you're very brave indeed. Love the intro, you are very humble Tracy, that's a great quality hard found👍 really is great to see you back on it my friend, well done 👏👏👏😊

upalevel productions ah thanks Scott you're to kind , this would make a great house for me I think haha it's so much nicer in the flesh and no graffiti inside which is a bonus, yes the Lone Ranger is back , i couldn't explore the basement that's where all the rodents hang out, nothing ever comes good from down there. Thank you for your super kind comment you've been an amazing friend.

I can't believe I just discovered your channel! What a terrific explore. It's heartbreaking to see such a beautiful old building decaying that way, doubly so since it is a library. Such a shame. Thank you for sharing.

  • @djl8085
    @djl8085 2 роки тому

So gorgeous! All that lovely woodwork, beautiful tile, archways... so sad it was all left. And it's astonishing all the decay a mere ten years can do. At least someone could salvage that gorgeous wood and tile? It's such a shame to leave it all there. And you are very brave going there by yourself as it is clearly dangerous, but you were very careful! Thank you for sharing this gem with us.

Oh what a beautiful building! Another being lost to decay :-(( The rotunda, the green tile, stone/brick work, wood work/herringbone floors and plaster ornate work...Magnificent!!! They keep the plaster work in those plastic tubs so they could make molds of them later on to duplicate the plaster work throughout as the renovation progressed. A Great explore Tracy as always! We really need to invest in restoring some of these beautiful old buildings - the way Britain trashes its heritage is truly shameful. Finding money never seems to be a problem when it comes to wars and tax breaks for the wealthy, so why not for something we can all enjoy and benefit from? Great to see you back Tracy.

As an lover of history and a fan of reading, it breaks my heart to see such a beautiful old library left to rot. Its a shame to see it left abandoned instead of using it for something else. I love your videos. Keep on filming! :)

Hi Tracy. I know this is like a 5 year old video but I hope you don’t mind me leaving a comment anyway, but after watching this I just couldn’t not leave a comment! This is one of the nicest buildings I’ve ever seen and I can just imagine what it was like before it fell into dereliction. I’ve just read some further info on it (after reading your description) and I believe it is/was in the process of being restored and repurposed, which is excellent! I know this is a weird thing to say, but I love your accent! It’s like asmr 😂

Wow...the architecture is amazing in this old place. Must have been absolutely beautiful in its prime. Would be neat to make into a private residence; to restore it and be made functional again.

A little repair and this building would be very nice building. Good to see you back. 👍
But now I can't upload videos for weeks because this fucked up youtube removed 2 of my videos because they thought, that those videos were incitement to hatred so they blocked me to upload videos for 2 weeks and said that one violation more and they will delete my youtube account.

I remember going to this library with my junior school in the late 90s. The upstairs was out of commission even then because of health and safety issues. It was a beautiful building though I remember all the book shelves lining the down stairs and the desk being in between the two wings too. I'm not sure if it's still open but if you like this building you should visit lister drive fisheries (an old victorian baths converted into a pet shop) just down the road very similar style.

I used to go to Lister Drive School in the 80's when it was next door to this library and used to love coming here. It's sad to see it in this condition. Our council wrecks everything and have left a lot of the beautiful buildings in Liverpool to rot. I can't wait to visit when it reopens.
