I laughed so much i had tears in my eyes. Im 45 haven't seen this since i was 2 or 3 and i can still remember the names of the fire brigade. Massive grin thank you very much.
Aww I remeber watching this as a kid, along with Camberwick Green. True, they didn't attend any fires, but firmen don't just deal with fires, I recall they did mostly rescue work - the cats up tree variety lol Kids programmes were so much better when I was a kid, Animal Magic, Noggin the Nog, Tales of The Riverbank, Belle and Sebastion, Robinson Crusoe, The Clangers, Mary Mungo & Midge, The Banana Bunch, The Flashing Blade, The Herb Garden - oh happy times!
absolute great blast from the past !! although all my four children watched it ,still brings back memories of being a child myself-and so much better than all that fake crap today !! xx
Ah man I so remember this. The last time i watched this was when i was like 5 im now 23 and i found myself repeating the names and humming the tune. Reminds me of my mum. One time i was watchin this and she brought me paste sandwiches lol random i know but its my memories lol
Goodness I feel old! Loved this when I was pre-school back in the 60's this and Camberwick green, eee,,,, I laughed when I saw this. Thanks to whoever posted it.
BTW. I was the one who played the guitar on this film. I don't always talk about it! It was an acoustic guitar I bought in 1965 for £8! My Mum thought that I was buying hymn books!
thay were the days when. the best days as a kid when you come home from school and sit down and watch tv on the bbc at 4.o clock. those were days as a kid.
When I first came to the US in 1980, my family and I visited Disneyland for the first time. I recall being drawn to the facade of "It's a small world" and thinking that it reminded me of something. The image nagged for 30 years before I saw this fragment on You-tube one day. In seconds the memory came flooding back: I hadn't seen this since I was 4 or 5 years old, only a vague image had lingered. I cried as I watched, knowing I'd discovered something precious that I'd lost.
@blagger56 Pugh & Pugh are twins. Geoff & Colin, they grew (not Barney McGrew!) up in Essex before moving to Trumpton, Trumptonshire. I know them fairly well. They retired in 1979 with a handsome pension. Captain Flack gave them both Gold carraige clocks. Pugh (Colin) has since passed away, but Geoff lives happily in Somerset with his wife Mary. They have 2 children. If anyone wants to know about Dibble, the tall one, then let me know. We are drinking buddies, & boy, can he drink!
@mistofoles No, he was based at camberwick Green in the local police house (remember when we actually had LOCAL village policemen) but his patch covered Chigley AND Trumpton. It is a little known fact that HEARTBEAT, the series set in a fictional Yorkshire village about the adventures of a local bobby on the beat as it were, was based loosely on the autobiography and memoir which he wrote when he retired from the force in 1980. It was called, simply "452 - A policeman's story"
@matsui2001 Chilldren's programmes were designed to be repeated for many years. For example, Andy Pandy was repeated from 1952 until 1970, when a colour series was made. By making the Trumptonshire series in colour, the series were repeatable for at least the whole 1970's, while if they had been in B&W, they would have had to be re-recorded or disposed of in the 1970's. Also, back then few programmes for toddlers were filmed full scale or in real-time, so colour reproduction was much cheaper.
Pugh, Pugh, Barney Magrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub.... Anyway I always thought Pugh & Pugh where twins....still have to click my fingers to this tune, those firemen where extra cool happy memories lol.
Barney McGrew, the bearded one, is the shop steward and doesn't take any nonsense from Captain Flack. Do you notice he's the only one that doesn't acknowledge his name during the roll call. A true class warrior. lol
1966. Paul McCartney is lounging around, suffering writer's block. He switches on the telly and sees this. Then come the lyrics: In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass And in his pocket is a portrait of the queen He likes to keep his fire engine clean It's a clean machine
My only complaint is that it was too short!! It cut off just before the houses scrolled past a stainionary fire engine! Oh the joys of the 1960s. I could watch these all day!!
Great video...... I didnt notice back in the day that the fire engine was "lowered" and was running on red wheels....... the "crew" also see abnormally tall, but back then 30 years ago, I thought it was the best programme on TV, and compared to whats on now still is............ Dibbler. (no relation to Dibble)
Tipping Point had a question about Trumpton. Today Mastermind also had a question about Trumpton. Maybe a quiz show had a question regarding the names of the firemen. If so start at 0:18 for the answers.
@littlesaltway101 The 6 o'clock whistle waltz at the buscuit factory in Chigley is real Heavy, head banging to this is COMPULSORY. Watch the workers who aren't dancing...
Captain Flack (Whistle) is the only one with a moustache. Barney McGrew does not acknowledge his name! 'Pugh, Pugh' are twins. ?Dibble is the tallest! Cuthbert is 'in the background. No info on him! But 'Grub' is an epic plum!!! But his wife is a sweetie!
@joelarama No, I don't...but you could have bought it for me for Christmas ;-) BTW, how many songs are there on the album? Are they the originals or have they been funked up?
@herrick46 Well, thanks for taking the time to advise me on matters concearning the quality of my hearing, my audio equipment and my spelling. Maybe I could offer you advice on the quality of your attitude, in return?
*Blows Whistle* Pugh Pugh Barney McGrew Cuthbert Dibble Grub *Blows Whistle* Think H&S would have something to say about the Fire Brigade if they were to travel like that nowdays.
The constant sex, swearing and violence in this show led to it being hastily cancelled. The episode 'Dibble and Grubb Raise Cthulhu' was the last straw for an exasperated TV network, and the axe fell....
Trumpton fire station, captain flack here. What’s that? What? A what? Whatever next? Yes of course we can by all means we’ll come. Yes, we’ll be there at once. Right away, right away.
I laughed so much i had tears in my eyes. Im 45 haven't seen this since i was 2 or 3 and i can still remember the names of the fire brigade. Massive grin thank you very much.
Wait till you get older. You'll laugh so much until you wet yourself!
Simply the Best - RIP Brian Cant

Love it - All my childhood just come flooding back .
I can remember watching this in both, b/w and colour

RIP Brian Cant. Memories from my childhood x
I so remember the bearded guy! I love the way he drives with his eyes shut!
BTW. I was the one who played the guitar on this film. I don't always talk about it! It was an acoustic guitar I bought in 1965 for £8! My Mum thought that I was buying hymn books!
Fantastic show this was, when I was a kid.
A Wonderous Classic , Thankyou !
Brilliant. Remember it like yesterday.
Those were the days.
Whenever I met a new teacher at school, (in the 80s) they ALWAYS said "Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew!" to me. I never knew what they were on about.
thay were the days when. the best days as a kid when you come home from school and sit down and watch tv on the bbc at 4.o clock. those were days as a kid.

I remember this cause my name is Barney mackew and I always used to think it said my name 😂
Wow. So many memories! Thank you :D
oh I think this is magic, wonderful stuff, remembered in it's entirety that's pretty special :-)
I am up for a trumpton club for sure ;-)
omg just spent literally hours looking for this particular bit, thank you so much ! ! ! for uploading it :-)
The Trumpton Fire Brigade is similar to a version of Fireman Sam which aired in 1987.
Brings back great childhood memories

fantastic. Loved this. Used to watch every day !!! :D
I've not seen that since about 1978. fantastic

Trumpton creator Gordon Murray dies aged 95 RIP
oh my god that is fucking awesome !!!! 35r old guy loving seeing that again!!! Awesome!!!! Cambewick green rules!! lol lol
This is Trumpton and not CambeRwick Green. Or Chigley either...
@blagger56 oh how I wish we could go back to the days when a bobby knew his patch
In fact I wish we could go back in time
Thanks
This has to be one of the most sensible threads on youtube. I'm serious!
omg!!!! this takes me back
@matsui2001

I used to love this!
Excellent
Pugh, Pugh, Barney Magrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub.... Anyway I always thought Pugh & Pugh where twins....still have to click my fingers to this tune, those firemen where extra cool happy memories lol.
that brought a smile to my face for a short time i was a kid again in 1967
Barney McGrew, the bearded one, is the shop steward and doesn't take any nonsense from Captain Flack. Do you notice he's the only one that doesn't acknowledge his name during the roll call. A true class warrior. lol
I am 45 years old, love these old memories.
The animators moved the engine a bit to the left to give more room at the pole, then Barney couldn't get into the cab :D
Me too - I'm back in front of the telly with my tea!
Sound track to my childhood.
I was always Grubb. I used to love Trumpton and Camberwick Green. amazing programmes :D
they are so organised, and certainly no staff cuts.
I lived off Trumpton when i was small! It's epic! Thanks for uploading :D xxx
1966. Paul McCartney is lounging around, suffering writer's block. He switches on the telly and sees this. Then come the lyrics:
In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the queen

Pew, Pew, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb. Great stuff, used to love it!
My only complaint is that it was too short!! It cut off just before the houses scrolled past a stainionary fire engine! Oh the joys of the 1960s. I could watch these all day!!
@mistofoles Oh, Grubb! He was fine, Never any trouble. Sheila Grubb, his Wife, was brilliant! Always made cakes for the after-band concert do!
I seem to remember Trumpton also had its own motorbike cop called PC McGary (divisional number 452),,or am I just imagining things?..
Is it me or does the driver have his eyes permanently closed? Loved these as a child, wonderful times back then...
Please stop this
I saw the LP of this yesterday in a charity shop! How many TUNES of Trumpton could there possibly be on an LP? Mm I bet blagger56 knows! LOL.
Tipping Point had a question about Trumpton. Today Mastermind also had a question about Trumpton. Maybe a quiz show had a question regarding the names of the firemen. If so start at 0:18 for the answers.
This original version is far better than the other one on here and it’s daubed over brass band.
@Randallw0rth... that is so bang on!lol..
@littlesaltway101 The 6 o'clock whistle waltz at the buscuit factory in Chigley is real Heavy, head banging to this is COMPULSORY. Watch the workers who aren't dancing...
Puh, Puh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub.
Classic, I have that bit as a my text message alret.
No it's definately Pugh, Pugh, I listened to it through my headpnones to check (I know i'm a little bit sad lol).
jeez you're correct . . apparently they are twins 😮
OMG Epic, lol. I watch this not that long ago on Nick, and my mum came in and said why are you watching Trumpton, Good times.
wow that brings back memorys!
I have thought of doing a musical recreation of the music from Trumptonshire.
all time classic scene !!
Great Stuff . . . . .
0:14 - 0:22 (Keep getting it stuck in my head)
could never understand why barney mcgrew had his full name called at roll when everyone else just had surnames called lol
he was always asleep! Captain Flack was trying to wake up the old codger LOL
A leading fireman?
It's Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew (for some reason he get's his full title for being the driver) Cuthbert, Dibbly, Grub.
Dibble
oh man...health and safety laws would make this program illegal....
this takes me back to when nothing mattered.....bliss...to be a kiddie again
Barney McGrew is the driver thats why he gets the full title.
CLASSIC!!!
I'm a 90s kid but I loveeee this shit man, just got through camberwick gonna move onto this next haha
Common mistake, a lot of people thought it was Hugh!
They were brothers!
one episode had Barney McGrew on holiday so they left a gap in the line.
@joelarama No, I don't...but you could have bought it for me for Christmas ;-)
BTW, how many songs are there on the album?
Are they the originals or have they been funked up?
fuck me.I was lookin for the rave tune! wheres me fuckin doves?this is awesome!
Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb!
@Randallw0rth hahahaha I like that hahaha funny coz my grandad was a fireman in the 1950's & his engine had a bell!!

Love it!!!
A trip to Trumpton
I heard they taped over lots of old episodes of Doctor Who too
brilliant.........memories,,,,rob age 45
Opps, forgot to say. It might sound obvious, but you have to join the site (also free), then just search for "Trumpton".
Trumpton showing a singularly slack approach to roadcraft.
@herrick46 Well, thanks for taking the time to advise me on matters concearning the quality of my hearing, my audio equipment and my spelling. Maybe I could offer you advice on the quality of your attitude, in return?

Think H&S would have something to say about the Fire Brigade if they were to travel like that nowdays.
That is the funniest comment thanks for sharing the thought lol.
lol at all the Pugh/Hugh arguments on here
captain flack said Pugh Pugh barney mcgrew cuthbert dibble grubb
Straight outta Trumpton.
its pew,pew actually. Was on telly the other night. They are twins.
has to be the slowest fire engine in histoery lol but i love it!
They would never find the fire as the map in the control room is of Tuscany, if my memory serves me well.
The constant sex, swearing and violence in this show led to it being hastily cancelled. The episode 'Dibble and Grubb Raise Cthulhu' was the last straw for an exasperated TV network, and the axe fell....
Supprised they never went on strike.
And don't think Elf & Safety would like the way the crew are just standing on the engine...
Great name, BTW!
Trumpton fire station, captain flack here. What’s that? What? A what? Whatever next? Yes of course we can by all means we’ll come. Yes, we’ll be there at once. Right away, right away.
Anyone else hearing "They see me rollin'...they hatin'"?
no
@@koitorob Well of course you wouldn't, ten years later...
