  • Former President George W. Bush tears up while eulogizing his father, George H.W. Bush, at a state funeral in Washington.
The 43rd president said his father, the 41st president, taught him how to lead.
"He showed me what it means to be a president who serves with integrity, leads with courage and acts with love in his heart for the citizens of our country," Bush said. "When the history books are written, they will say that George H.W. Bush was a great president of the United States."
Bush's eulogy ended on an emotional note. Concluding his remarks, he added through tears: "Your decency, sincerity and kind soul will stay with us forever. So through our tears, let us know the blessings of knowing and loving you, a great and noble man. The best father a son or daughter could have."

I delivered a eulogy to my mother last October age 77. I am 50. My brother and Dad opted not to speak they were too upset. Mum was kind, fun, caring, positive and had many friends. I held it for as long as I could as I didn't want to be a blubbering mess. When I got to 'you were like a Christmas tree or bouquet of flowers that made the world a prettier place I cried. Then regrouped and said our memories, times and experiences we will treasure always, so so long Mum, we love you always x I touched Mums coffin on my way back to my seat in the front row beside my brother and Dad. Best Eulogy I've ever heard. It doesn't matter the political affiliation -- I watched this again because we need to know a country in which we had values, grace, dignity and sacrifice for the American people. Brilliantly spoken for his Dad George H.W., George W. can rest assured that his 'gift' of the final spoken words in the Washington National Cathedral were the best a son could ever grant a father, and a President recognizing another President. Incredibly heartfelt, a poignant reminder of greatness defined and lost, with a son following in his Dad's footsteps.

I served in the Army from 1986 - 2006 and President's Bush (41) and Bush (43) were both my Commanders in Chief. All politics aside, one cannot watch and hear the words of Pres. George H.W. Bush's son and not feel empathy for him as a human being. It is incredibly difficult to eulogize a parent and Pres. Bush did an amazing job. My deepest condolences are extended to the Bush family as they mourn the loss of their family member.

Agree. He was trying so hard not to lose it the entire time. I cry just thinking about this day for either of my parents. *"It is incredibly difficult to eulogize a parent"* and to do it in front of the whole nation. I always liked Bush, he may not have been the best president but his little quirks always make me smile. Like when he tells a joke he always smirks just a bit, when everyone laughs, like he's gonna write that one down in his joke book.
