I get what you mean but after time in the arena you will see a move and know what button or combo you need I’m not kidding I spend 20 min in the arena or on low rank monsters just to warm up before I go out for a hunt it’s been ages since you commented and I bet your skills are bad ass now
Same. Someone that is barely starting out I feel Ike he talked about it very well I just don’t know all of the button combos haha. Buttons on screen would’ve been very useful

This man knows! Whenever i see people learning ls and having trouble, i just tell them: “ Go for the Hail Mary foresight’s, go for the ballsy moves.” If it doesn’t work, you learned something. If it doesn’t, you look amazing and feel amazing 🗡👌

Also good thing to know is that if you use the foresight slash right before an attack or roar perfectly it fills up the gauge completely if the hit lands, it it doesn't the gauge drains. Works the same with the iai slash, if you land it while the monster is going to hit the meter doesn't drop
I am glad that you chose to use raw footage instead of editing out the mini fails during barrels. Definitely something that takes practice for sure and things happen, then to go from that to straight up a BEASTLY execution vs nerge was awesome to watch. I had to choose between LS and SnS to start up a new weapon to keep the game fresh (I main HH, with side play of Bow, CB, and IG). I tried LS and was STRUGGLING haha so i'm definitely having alot of fun with SnS. But LS will be next for sure
I watch a video of your’s a month ago, and started using foresight after seeing it utilized well. I was new to long sword and your videos really helped. It’s really helped my LS play. Thanks for making this video going more in depth on your thought process during a fight.
Hi DG, I just started learning long sword after hundreds of hours on great sword. This was really helpful, especially waiting between attacks for the foresight opening. Dance on those monsters!

Thank you for helping me out with learning the long sword. I have grown a very high appreciation/respect for this weapon. Not to mention it didnt take me to terribly long to catch on how to do advance combos and mastering the foresight slash.

Both special sheath attacks have I-frames so not only is it more efficient, its very safe, and keeps meter auto filling for foresight slash and the spirit roundhouse combo
Another useful tip for helm breaker is while your in the air if you click triangle it changes your direction

I just got to nergi’s fight yesterday and 1) I need to use foresight, have never used it and just suffered through roars 2) I need to set and remember shortcuts for crafting potions because running around with the menu open and panicking while spamming crafting because I’m getting my teeth kicked in is a little terrifying

I am a GS main with over 1200 hrs on mhw, i was issued a challenge with starting fresh with only a longsword. Fortify has been a big help.

Also you don’t have to land every slash to upgrade your meter. As long as that final attack in the combo lands, it’ll upgrade 💪🏾
Brother I been an LBG main since the game came out with ocational Insecr Glaive gameplay. I been watching your channel for a while and I like your style. Recently I had the courage to try LS after watching a lot of your videos and I been having a lot of fun not just with gameplay but also with the builds. Your the man DG.
Thanks a lot for the video, man! I love using LS, but even after hundreds of hours into the game (using dual blades and hammers too) I didn't know Foresight Slash was even a thing!
Im a LS main but i only have the base game, i can tell that you're a good teacher, my tip for the guys who is trying to main or get used to LS is just know the basics and empty your mind and focus and trust me it will be a smooth hunt for you
if you do a successful foresight slash, you can follow immediately whit a spirit slash for extra damage and a level up in the gauge
I started this game like a month ago and I can't seem to stick to one weapon. Pretty much everytime I as much as learn a moveset I feel like moving on to another one. But needless to say this was very helpful.
Nice video. You forgot to mention that you can go into the draw attack mid foresight slash, its a tight window, but useful if you did the the foresight slash too early, and some other situations.

DG DG, your videos are the reason why I started LS. The ( I'm a dirty xobox user) Y B Y B (∆ O ∆ O) combo is the combo that helped me get those juicy Foresight slashes off the hop.
You get to the point, where if your sword is out, you feel like nothing can touch you. Quick poke with B, boom foresight and you're out of there.
If I may add one quick tip, though. Hills are LS friend too, you slide and use RT (R2) to samurai jump slash, then when you land, a second RT will get you to the round slash. That's right 2 slashes to up your bar. For big bosses it's a god send, like MR KT. I through on Rock steady bounce KT get 2 of those of in the first minute of the fight. Only works from a slide and the second hit needs meter. But all you need is one poke to build enough meter.
Also a tip for us Xbox users, if you're having trouble getting those FSS, swap RT and LT with Rb and Lb ( R2 with R1). The shorter button press, that RB provides, make a difference. You won't accidentally be pushing RT then B, you'll know the pain if you've ever tried to FSS, and you start a spirit slash instead.

Started using long sword, after IG, i have to say it has much more high skill ceiling compared to IG, with IG u can deal consistent damange throughout the hunt u just need to know the basic of kinsect and when u should be flying and when u should be on ground, but for LS you need to be skillful to deal real damage in the least possible time which i like about this weapon!!
And its funny how every LS guide i watch there is always something different to offer,nice video btw keep posting.

I’m an avid user of the long sword and I learned quiet a bit still from this that I didn’t know.
Just tried practising on tempered ruiner today and he was having none of my shit, safe to say sometimes you can do everything right and monsters just pull bullshit out of their magic hats.
This helped me so much I had no idea you could triangle circle infinite combo
I seen you use that triangle circle a lot into foresight slash. I need to add that for fighting rajang and other fasts monsters. Great video

Pre Iceborne I was an IG main, and messed with GS. After Iceborne I became a GS main, and mess with LS from time to time. Thanks for the video! Now I know how to use LS like a pro

Don't b afraid to use helm spiltter. I use it all the time everytime. Idc if the monster is prone or raging. If the monster moves u can always readjust in the air USE IT! U gotta be patiently aggressive.

Just watched this video to see what other tech there was. This is a pretty cool guide for people being introduced into LongSword.
The only two things you didn't cover were the Foresight Slash in Iai Sheathe and the invincibility frames of the Iai Slash that can be used to go through roars and attacks (I've used it a few times and saw a dude go against Acidic Glav toe to toe like a Samurai battle.)
Iai Slash's i-frames are even tighter than those of the Iai Spirit Slash. I sat in the training area for nearly two hours working on the proper timing with both moves.

Always nice to get a great time when doing a tutorial ;D good job on your explanations, spirit iai slash is so tough to time especially on monsters you don't fight too often. Wish you could make the bell sound a bit louder
I'm gonna leave a comment here saying that I will now practice the Foresight. LS is my main but I mostly rely on Iai draw slash and Helm Splitter and never use Foresight. I'll update on how I do

I’m new to MHW and saw the longsword, I knew it will be the only weapon I use in the game I’m getting better every day.

Not sure if I missed it or if I'm wrong but I think you need spirit gauge to do foresight correct me if I'm wrong

always try and stay infront of him
use IA spirit slash as much as possible when you see an opening

Didn't really explain everything, like how do you angle the downward slash towards the monster every time. As soon as I get airborn, it shoots the attack the way I am facing and pressing the stick left or right makes minimal difference in the way the character is facing. Here in the fight I see him basically doing 180 spins while in mid air.

Idk my monsters act weird. They like to run off and when I chase them they run back to the original spot. They do this over and over again IN THE SAME ZONE. Any tips?

Could you do a CB guide and also the settings you have on.
The Jinx and Tuna settings as it's the common ones used by more advanced players however settings are (as they stated) based on personal preference so you don't particularly need them
