It’s weird because the boss’s gimmick is misleading.
The description makes it seem like you don’t want to go over 7 of the status so you don’t get gripped, when in reality getting gripped spawns an enemy that when defeated allows you to temporarily reduce the boss’s resistances.

This is to give Yi Sang charge, his Dimensional Shredder EGO will only apply Dimensional Rift if charge count is spent - so if there is no charge, he won't inflict any Dimensional Rift next turn.

It also changes Lantern Don's resistance of wrath to normal, which helps in tanking the hand's attacks that goes usually unclashed (since the main part for rupture application is the body)
