John is one of the last few surviving "first generations" of Andrea Segovia students. Which makes him so great, and a big part of modern guitar history. He has the most monumental guitar repertoire of all guitarists today. And, he knew the maestro personally. John is one of the greatest, and most accomplished guitarist to this day. I myself, am very honored to be a 2nd generation of the Maestro, Segovia. But I can only wish to someday be that good.
I just learned this piece completely and finished .. just need to polish for a long time to come .. so privileged to have known maestro John Williams and this masterpiece. My life is complete with this gift
Honestly when i heard that sevilla first, from the best album, john williams ultimate guitar collection. I was impressed, thats so rhythmic and emotional at the same time, year was 2002 i dont played my guitar after 2006, now year is 2023 and i have finished the half part of sevilla. I am gonna stream it from twtich even tho my guitar is cheap and bad.
I am working on that sevilla, definitely need johns arranged version, from the video i did most changes from basic note, but some parts are not in picture, cameraman skippin on purpose 😅
Breath taking. Impressed how he remembers it all. Coming from little old New Zealand we just don't have the depth or exposure to this level of culture. So now we have to convince the Spanish Royal Family about a historical tour of the palace please.
What about Cheryl Grice? She's in the Auckland area. She even takes students. Julian Bream thought highly of her skill. In fact there's a Julian Bream Masterclass episode on UA-cam of her playing this very piece. Perhaps in the colonies we need to stop focusing on our lack of cultural history compared to Europe and focus more on the fact the world sees countries like Australia and New Zealand as more middle aged countries with a cultures of our own rather than new countries with no character. We sometimes see ourselves differently to how others see us. It is good to remember that. Australia produced the guitarist in this vid. Sure he had to travel but the fact of it is, a colony had the seeds to produce him. How could that be? Luck? I don't think so. There is culture about the place in this part of the world. If you lived in Europe the novelty of its culture might last ten years, then after that the charm of home could become apparent. ua-cam.com/channels/otkX6D8ex-za8gH3cpRQsg.html
For a superpower, some people would want to read minds, run fast, teleport, have ultra strength or excellent intelligence. My superpower of choice would be to have the ability of mastering and playing the classical guitar, just as John Williams has.
Primum... Primum...to play like John Williams, you need to have an ear for music, and start playing at the age of 7 and at least an hour every day... I started playing guitar at the age of 25 and I think it’s already a bit old...
@@skozlovski I've been playing guitar since I was 16 years old. 32 years ago I started the guitar. Though I played mostly electric guitar in rock bands for most of that time, I have been studying Classical Guitar now for the last 15 years or so. But yes, to get to the level of John Williams mastery of guitar takes many, many years beyond that and dedication, no doubt.
Just noticed the similarities to Peter Sculthorpe's 'From Kakadu'.Even the main motif's seem consciously derived. He also used the albenizesque "Theme from the Sullivan's" as an Australian nationalist influence which was really cool to discover.
I have a dumb question. I'm new to the world of classical guitar and I clicked on this video because I saw the name. Is this John Williams the film score composer or coincidentally a different highly talented musician named John Williams
The film composer is an American, whose instrument is the piano. This John Williams was born in Australia and studied music in England, emerging as a classical guitar performe in the late 50s. He perhaps most widely known for his recording of Cavatina from the Deer Hunter.
It's a very beautiful interpretation but I prefer Julian Bream, in the famous guitar documentary "Guitarra". Bream, in my opinion, is a guitarist who plays Albeniz better, both in interpretation and technique.
He is paying his smallman in this concert I think? Lattice always sounds better to me than double tops, but I think it's his Smallman, a lot of people are not a fan of smallman
The music is excellent. But where this music is played makes me sad. Alhambra palace. Magnificent work made by the Andalusian Muslim civilization. But the Muslim people of the 700-year-old Andalusian State were either killed or forcibly converted to Christianity. They were assimilated. Unfortunately, they were all destroyed.
Sevilla, my hometown, the most beautiful city in the world. I miss her so much!!!!!!!

The day I can play this piece it would be the biggest day of my life
Agreed with no freakin doubt

One of the top 4 best pieces on classical guitar played by one of the best classical guitar players.
The best version! The dynamics is unbelievable!
I am working on that sevilla, definitely need johns arranged version, from the video i did most changes from basic note, but some parts are not in picture, cameraman skippin on purpose 😅
John Williams is amazing !!
Perfect guitar maestro
One of the greatest living guitarist
One of ?????
Played like this is perfection 👏🏻🔥
perfect technique, relaxed posture, no facial grimacing. the greatest classical guitarist who ever lived imho.

All renditions by John Williams are the best versions
Glad i've found this once again
A tribute to my father who enjoyed one of his many hobbies.. classical guitar.
Finally, a high quality video of The Seville Concert. Thanks.
Thank you so much for uploading this in HD 😭

@murraycatto1 -- We'll accompany y'all.....from here in Acapulco!

Absolutely true
That is an attainable superpower! I am in training to achieve this myself 😁
I think a better superpower would be to be able to speak every language on earth..

This song makes Asturias look like Smoke on the Water lol it will take me so long to learn it
Not really the difficulty is definitely comparable

Anyone noticed the guy looking from upper side

Yeah I find JW boring. I’m going back to Parkening videos now
Of course I love John Williams, and the composition clearly is fantastic, but I can’t stand that lattice top guitar sound
He is paying his smallman in this concert I think? Lattice always sounds better to me than double tops, but I think it's his Smallman, a lot of people are not a fan of smallman
The wocomoMUSIC intro "sound" is very annoying. It is the reason, to *not* subscribe to this Channel.
Clasical guitar is awsome..but do u know Alip ba ta..cause clasical guitarist cant di fingerstyle hehehehe..cause we read a book to remember hehehehe

This is not Alhambra. It is Alcazar Palace in Sevilla.
Wiki says this palace was built by Christians on the site of a mosque.
King Peter of Castile.
Europe in a nutshell, it goes both ways. Humanity is a strange thing
Don't lose sleep over it, mate.
Not the Alhambra, cristians were also forcess to convertion and killed. Keep trying!
