    Happy Birthday Keenan!
    Whales are some of my favorite animals, especially the Blue Whale. Sperm Whales are not just the largest toothed predator on Earth, they are the deepest air-breathing diver and just about the loudest animal of all. I read Herman Melville's Moby Dick in the past, and while impressive, it obviously exaggerates the beauty of these beasts. They can live to almost 80 years old and there have been instances of albino Sperm Whales recorded in the Atlantic and southern Pacific, so there really are "great white whales" out there.
    There's a very interesting level in Endless Ocean Blue World involving the Sperm Whale. You are diving in a deep crevasse and there's a cave you need to get into, but it's blocked by a Giant Squid. To get rid of it, you have to call a Sperm Whale over using a whistle to lure it into battling the squid so you can get by. It's pretty intense.
    Here's to the Sperm Whale and cetaceans everywhere!

      I think Keenan mentioned at one point that Kaimere's most recent ice age was during the Permian dynasty. If that's the case, I suppose it's likely that some aquatic filter-feeding therapsids or fabadonts grew absolutely massive, although I wouldn't bet on any growing larger than a blue whale.

    I mean, when you think about how gravity works, it makes sense that the earth still holds the largest animal record.
    I believe you said somewhere Kaimere is larger than Earth, which means it likely has a stronger gravitational pull.
    The square-cube law indicates how big something can get without collapsing. Gravity affects this formula, so a larger planet with stronger gravity would have a lower cap of just how big life can get on it. I don't know how drastic the gap between earth's and Kiamere's gravity, but there still would be a gap.
    Edit: also happy birthday.

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +2

      then again kaimere is more tropical, so it doesnt have the modern earth current that concentrated most of the nutrient in the polar seas, thus not favoring modern baleen whales in bulk feeding and growing very large like what they did in the pleistocene

    I think in Kaimera, the sperm whales will devolve into Livyatans, Sperm whales are Livyatans that eat 🦑 because it is plentiful than whales, but because of diversity of large marine animals, they would devolve into Livyatans and became the apex predator in the oceans.

    I know this may sound odd, but im glad you dont just make an animal that's larger than the blue whale like so many other specevo works do. Heck, even today, people are finding the "largest animals to ever exist" only for the blue whale to still be the largest which honestly im happy you can make such amazing creatures while still giving respect to the queen of giants. Still amazing video.

      Thank you! Yeah it's actually something a few folks have pushed against but I think the blue and fin are so tied to the colder context of Pleistocene and Holocene oceans that it just wouldn't make sense for a hothouse like Kaimere to get that big. I also just like that for all the big beasts of Kaimere, in many cases outsizing their Earth counterparts, we still have the biggest animal on either planet.

    1) First before all, Nice Birthday !
    2) Interesting to see that the Cachalot species we have on Kaimere isn't the same species than on our.
    Because, for example, as we have the as one of the three Orcinus Orcas on Kaimere the modern and current species, Orcinus orca, on Kaimere and as a widespread species like on Earth, as well thans everal species of Earth Dolphins like the Common Dolphin, I and most others people would have think wat first that the Cachalot here would have been in a similar case.
    So it turn out a surprise to see that isn't the case and that was actually the mother species of both the earth and Kaimeran species that was harvested instead to give afterward birth to both species on their respective planet.
    And that such large animals with a slow pregnancy are still able to evolved into another species in such a geological short tie frame that around 1 mya is.
    3) I'm a bit confused about the release of the episodes this month.
    The Snouters episode at the start of this month said the SE Asia harvest episode was to be released the 16th of April, then was moved to the last day, 30th, of this month, then in the last episode about "Cannibalism on Kaimere" to this day 23th, to finally being replace at the 30th...
    There was a problem in the schedule or something.
    4) Still an enjoyable episode of its own noneless, well realized and pleasant to watch.
    5) Hope one day more episodes on the Toothed Whales on kaimere are sponsorized, as the Dwaf Sperm Whale and others dolphins families still are also wonderfull animals on their own !

    Happy Bday! Awesome episode, I loved the squid silhouette shot and the sonar sounds. Was fine with the old design but the darker grizzled design looks way better and fits more with our species. That kraken dunk is raw too
    1. How do Cachalot interact with Ghost Kraken? They're obviously too big to be food but are they treated like any other filter feeder or differently since they're a squid?
    2. Was the design inspired by the High-finned sperm whale or is that a coincidence?
    3. What species is represented in that squid silhouette shot?
    4. You say smaller krakes in the food that must be broken catalogue. Are there larger krakes off the menu?
    5. Do Northern Hemisphere Cachalot still dive for avoidance or does the Qomanqa complicate things?

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks! Can thank Wikipedia for the sounds. I definitely prefer the new design especially after further study.
      1. Generally ignored, though it takes many years to reach such sizes. They will hunt young ghost kraken.
      2. Coincidence. A taller fin stabilizes them. Means they're not as agile which has its downsides, but stability when fleeing an incoming mosasaur is of great benefit.
      3. Don't have its phylogeny or species finalized yet so just assume its Humboldt-adjacent.
      4. I don't have a full and final list to say, but yes. There are some individuals too big. No species is immune of course, as baby horned kraken are definitely on the menu even if only the largest bull cachalot can kill a big female kraken.
      5. Qomanqa do not intersect with female and calf cachalot so it's not really an issue. Qomanqa need cold water, cachalot calves need warm.

    Any future plans for doing a video on sea monsters of Kaimere? By sea monsters, I don't mean species already well known, but instead refer to unconfirmed species (sailors described something that doesn't match any known species, but could be a case of misidentification or folklore), as well as "unnatural" species, such as creations of the First Children (like genetic chimeras using whales/mosasaurs/etc...) or creatures altered by Magic (like was mentioned in your video on manhunters of Kaimere).

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +4

      I can't speak to broader projects, but for Kaimere, it's a matter of planet warmth preventing filter feeders of such sizes getting access to sufficient concentrations of prey to survive. I also like the juxtaposition of all these giants of Kaimere yet modern Earth still having the biggest animal.

    Awesome episode! Are there any giant predatory whales like Livyatan in kaimere?

    • @Andrey.Ivanov
      @Andrey.Ivanov 4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, there's the grandfather whale which is a large species mostly found south of the Known World. It used to be a species of Livyatan in earlier stages of development, but later Keenan changed it so that it's a descendant of a much smaller macroraptorial sperm whale. Thus Livyatan itself is extinct in Kaimere. There's also the Sohiajoon which is another large macroraptorial sperm whale. It's smaller that the grandfather whale, but is still pretty big and is more widespread.

    So exceptional Cachalots are the largest animals known on Kaimere.
    What is the largest species on average? Qomanqa and Megalodon? Do Grandpa Whales fail to rival large Cachalots in size?

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +1

      Well, it must be said average qomanqa and megalodon are much smaller than the maximum. Like cachalot, the giants in that slide make up the top 1-3% of the oldest individuals. I'd say since cachalot populations are much larger than meg and qomanqa at that size, they likely are larger on average. Same could be said of sun and humpback whales: their larger populations means that even if most are smaller, their largest individuals are more common. As for grandfather whales, they rarely exceed 15 meters and usually 12-13, so not a major contender for the biggest beast title.

    The maximum size for bulls is nuts. Even the average bull size is still enormous. Do the Akanuk regularly attack female pods? I wonder if that may be a reason as to the bull’s tendency to attack whaling ships.

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +1

      Cow pods are often targeted. It is definitely a contributing factor, though bachelor pods are often targeted too so there's a double incentive both from memory as a calf and as an adolescent for large bulls to attack

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  4 місяці тому +3

      Grandfather whales are not found in the known world (only occasionally do they leave the south polar waters) and are a lot smaller (bulls are the same size as cachalot cows, so 10-13 meters) and have a much different diet (marine mammals and fish rather than squid). They cannot interbred.
