@hejcoze That depends. If it's upgraded with a banana, you shoot him, then eat the banana, and presumably the laptop also, whereas if it's a punnet of raspberries, you release the tiger.
Considering that I'm currently mulling an upgrade to an Apple laptop and I wonder if my phone will ever get the Nougat upgrade, this sketch is eerily appropriate.
i just had the pea upgrade, but then i upgraded to the 2 pea upgraded, as i thought in 6 months time, one pea maybe the standard and i didnt wanna regret not getting it down the line you know
I love the fact that it ends in a coffee shop. The perfect place to spot people who have no idea about computing and have been tricked into buying overpriced hardware.
Bah, I tried to install the Lettuce Leaf on my MacBook but it breaks compatibility with the printer I use (a Pixma MP490). I called Canon, and the only solution they offered was to Bootcamp my SSD and install Windows. The driver, they say, requires Vista or later. It's 2015. I shouldn't have to dual-boot my Air to run my Pixma and my Lettuce at the same time!
The Carrot upgrade requires Yosemite or later, and I'd rather not get rid of Mountain Lion if I don't have to. It's a minor annoyance with the Lettuce Leaf, but it only affects me when I'm using Fireworks, which is less than 1% of the time. Other than that, the lettuce leaf is perfectly capable of meeting my needs.
The Carrot does serve my needs, and yes, i do have Yosemite. The flatness does throw me off a bit, but when I'm watching a movie from the iTunes store which costs an extra 200% compared to buying it on bluray, the carrot upgrade does work its magic
+troymellor Ah, but you're probably watching it on a Retina Display, which is where the Carrot really shines IMO. I however use AirParrot for most of my movies, which sees limited benefit from the Carrot. So unless I were to get new hardware, which won't happen for me until Skylake comes out, the Lettuce will suit my needs just fine. I mean, in six months time, Skylake will most likely become the standard. You really don't want to regret not getting it down the line.
See I've been told that the cucumber may be the standard 6 months down the line, which is what i plan to upgrade to. It isn't cheap, oh boy its not cheap at all, BUT, it does everything the carrot does, and more, AND, come on, its a cucumber. A cucumber with iPhoto and Garageband is like everything anyone could ever ask for
@moose875 Haha, yeah, and the carrot bit.. My laptop's already got the tomato extension! (though I am thinking of upgrading to anchovy, tbh - might regret it if I don't.)
@DecRobProductions Personally I have the celery upgrade. It's totally retro, as it detects toxic gasses by turning blue, as modelled by Peter davison as a lapelle upgrade xP
It's about computer stores in general taking advantage of people who don't know anything about computers. Apple does this, yes, but so does everyone else, right?
I really don't understand why people are going with those vegetable upgrades. You can get so much more with just a simple potato, and they cost much less.
heh, I'm the opposite of these people. I'll use something until it breaks and only then get a new one. My lap top is about 5 years old now, very slow and doddery and unable to cope with most simple tasks (it once had a 30 minute panic because I tried to right click on something, and updating my antivirus caused it to crash), it's been pretty battered and it has got a mind of it's own (it decides what it wants to do, like turning on at random times, opening programmes I don't want etc)
256MB of RAM? Wow, that was bad even when this aired in 2009. For reference, the minimum requirements for Windows Vista 32-bit are 512MB. (XP 64-bit requires 128MB, so plenty for that). And bare in mind Windows 7 was already out by this point. So this laptop was kind of crap out of the gate.
but regardless there is no way I'm spending my money getting a new one until this one dies. And I suspect the way it hangs on that might no be for a while yet.
@noregrets92 Ooh, fresh-fruit laptops not good enough for you, eh? Well, sonny, if you get sent a virus from a loganberry-bunch-upgrade, don't come crying to me!
Don't let them sell you the lettuce upgrade, it'll only be the tip of the iceberg.
@hejcoze That depends. If it's upgraded with a banana, you shoot him, then eat the banana, and presumably the laptop also, whereas if it's a punnet of raspberries, you release the tiger.
2:19 that "sure" gets me every time. Superb from the superb Jim Howick
8 people are regretting it down the line.

Man I remember the lettuce upgrade! Those were the good old days of computing!
Considering that I'm currently mulling an upgrade to an Apple laptop and I wonder if my phone will ever get the Nougat upgrade, this sketch is eerily appropriate.
Today that sketch would be done with smartphones and still be as relevant and as funny.
And would work even better when applied to the constant upgrade mentality of smartphones, I'd say.
i just had the pea upgrade, but then i upgraded to the 2 pea upgraded, as i thought in 6 months time, one pea maybe the standard and i didnt wanna regret not getting it down the line you know
I just got a new laptop for my dad. I can't believe after so many years we still don't get either lettuce leaf or a carrot as standard.
That lettuce upgrade sure does make up for the low RAM. It surely does indeed!
I love the fact that it ends in a coffee shop. The perfect place to spot people who have no idea about computing and have been tricked into buying overpriced hardware.
It's a shame they mentioned 256MB RAM. It dates the clip!
David Thurstan I have 8 gigs on my pc
Snag Prophet i have 16
Joke time:
Q. How do you milk sheep?
A. Release a new Apple product.
I didn't opt for the tomato upgrade...now 6 months down the line it's become the standard and I'm regretting not getting it.
so good.
tube up the nose, tube up the nose. theres a man with a tube up his nose..
daft wod oh Gerard

+Jonty Levine You don't have that issue with the Carrot upgrade
The Carrot upgrade requires Yosemite or later, and I'd rather not get rid of Mountain Lion if I don't have to. Vegetables are so last year. I made sure to get the pineapple upgrade.
I got the tomato upgrade personally, it even comes with bundled open-sauce software :D
ha ha... this sounds like me... I wouldn't know a lettuce leaf from a carrot upgrade! lol
@moose875
Haha, yeah, and the carrot bit.. My laptop's already got the tomato extension! (though I am thinking of upgrading to anchovy, tbh - might regret it if I don't.)

256megs of ram?
How old is this video?!
Series 2 aired in the autumn of 2009. At that point 256MB was already on the small side with the typical laptop featuring 512MB.
My toshiba has the sliced onion upgrade. It enhances cinema on your laptop, especially when you are watching a sad film.
It's about computer stores in general taking advantage of people who don't know anything about computers. Apple does this, yes, but so does everyone else, right?
Scarily accurate. Reminds me of the Bates 3000 sketch from the Onion movie.
has nobody here watched horrible histories? That’s Jim!!!
I'd love to get the parsnip upgrade!
Mine has crab lice, you don't need to replace them, they just reproduce by themselves and are also quite fun, actually
3 people have actually indeed bought laptops with the lettuce upgrade. for 40 quid.
Mine's the beetroot upgrade - How embarrassing.
"is the carrot better than the lettuce leaf?" lol!
@leckerwurstbrot Wow, time flies. Everyone has moved onto the pomegranate already.
Don't forget to purchase the superfluous insurance policy on your lettuce leaf upgrade. You could be sorry, 6 months down the line, if you don't!
you make me want anchovies.
@moose875 Clearly he should've gone for the 4 GB RAM upgrade... because 6 months down the line 4 GB is standard.
That begs a question. What do you do when someone attacks you with a fresh-fruit-upgraded laptop?
@JimBob4233
what if its a pointed stick?
I'm currently watching this on my iPad with you guessed it......the pomegranate upgrade. The apple was so last year.
@leckerwurstbrot nah you should definitely go for the leek upgrade
256M of Ram? how much did that laptop cost originally 10p? :/
Damn, this is old... I've got a cucumber upgrade on mine. definitely worth it, much better than the old pineapple chunk i used to have.
tbh, the lettuce upgrade would still double the processing power of a mac.
I thought he said Lotus and I thought haha I remember Lotus way back in the day
And then he put the laptop on the counter
Can you do a lettuce leaf upgrade to a desktop PC?
Latest upgrade = Lettuce upgrade...…. aaaaah I get it. 8 years later..
i've watched the sketch possibly multiple times. can't recall ever realising that play on words, until your comment .. oh yeah : )
I tried to be smart and took the grape upgrade..... so 6 months down the line I would already have the raisin upgrade installed.
I have the gherkin, it lights up if you put an electric current through it. (genuine fact).
Has anyone even tried this because I'm thinking about getting the lettuce leaf for my laptop but need to know if I'll be getting value for money.
outrageously funny...

@JimBob4233 Sounded very Monty Python there! :P

256mb of ram. How old is this clip?
I hate all the continuous upgrades they offer when my computer works perfectly fine the way it is.
Jim Howick!!! :DD
interesting, this was obviously a while ago, nowadays we surely all have the leek. standard!!!
@hookiebookie1 Like the end of this stick, that's the point.
Prices very close to apple store... letuce
but regardless there is no way I'm spending my money getting a new one until this one dies. And I suspect the way it hangs on that might no be for a while yet.
it's gerrard from peep show! never thought i'd see him in another show
That's why I buy second hand electronics online..
@georgercop
We have a winner!
I got my updgrade from Apple and well, you guessed it, its an Apple
nah it turns purple, get with the program man
Unfortunately thats not a pointless answer.
Call me simple, but. I personally just stick to able.
That had to be the shittiest laptop ever. Even WITH the lettuce leaf.
How do they come up with ideas like this! 😂😂👍
Ha! Hilarious.
This is so aobut Apple :L
256MB... 1.8Ghz......... [throws up]
@noregrets92
Ooh, fresh-fruit laptops not good enough for you, eh? Well, sonny, if you get sent a virus from a loganberry-bunch-upgrade, don't come crying to me!
+1
