    Amazing work. Would love to see more of the Hellboy models in this style. It really bring's Mike Mignola's vision to the tabletop.

    Very informative. The use of ink AND marker for the black areas is fascinating! I took the opposite approach by basing the models black, highlighting with white only one-third of the surfaces. Then I went over the white bits with flat colors and finally retouching the borders between black shadowy areas and colored areas to sharpen the contrast, using a mixture of ink and black acrylic. Finally, I added a few 'scratch' lines in the same black mixture to the colored areas that are so reminiscent of Mignola's style.

    this is great! I love mike mognola's style, and you got the mini pretty close. I was inspired by your comic style videos to try my own hand at it and have done one model already and I'm about to try a second one :)

    It’s a great style and thinking of ways of using the same inking technique on evil/villain miniatures I have in my collection. Possibly Nagash.

      Oooooh Nagash in a dark horse comic style would be awesome.... I'll need to think about that!

      Epic Duck Studios haha I would send you mine boxed but I have it as the ‘clown prince’ model got me into the hobby 25 years ago. Love the style though. Definitely could be used on other models. Maybe even Walking Dead miniatures.

    Fascinating video man, Ive tried various styles and methods of mini painting over the years but id never thought to try comic book styling. Generally my preference is to aim for as realistic looking as possible with or without the use of metalics or gloss but i have never tried going for some thing deliberately so stylized. I love the result you got here, and its a great choice of model for this style of course.
    Perhaps I shall give this style a try some time my self - but i think I shall have to find the right model to match the style as you did.
    Any thoughts on using pointilism for gradiating shadows like you see in older comics?

    Hi Mike. Amazing work here, really good explained and very teaching, thanks.
    We own several comic based board games, like Hellboy, Kick-Ass, TMNT Shadows of the past and I think this style is the way to bring them to life.
    Just a few questions, since it´s for gaming and the paint may get worn, do the inked zones (magic black and pigma micron ones) will accept the final varnish coat properly? Have you coated your cell shading minis with varnish? Any tip?
    Thanks a lot. I´m suscribed to your channel from right now!

    glad to see you tackle Red as its been on my mind to try since taking your class at Adepticon! as always very inspirational and also, do you think using the smaller brush helped after the pen?

    A bit of a "newbie" here. Why do we use "black ink" instead of "black paint" ?

    • @bigolbearthejammydodger6527
      @bigolbearthejammydodger6527 4 роки тому

      the reason to use an ink is because it flows into the recesses better. btw you can make your own inks by watering down paint - BUT for this style i actually wouldn't, id use bought inks as they have more pigment and i think that might be important for this style.

    Good job. But honestly I don't like this new "trend" in painting miniatures. This is the new hotness in model and miniature painting and to me it only looks good in pictures from 1 angle. In real life It doesn't look nearly as impressive as a traditional painted model. Just my opinion though and I'm old school.

    • @Epicduck
      @Epicduck  5 років тому +1

      I've been painting this way for the better part of 2 years now. It's very rare that a model only looks good from a single angle, though that's a concern a lot of people ask me about before they attempt painting in this style.

    • @HeadCannonPrime
      @HeadCannonPrime 5 років тому +1

      @@Epicduck Its along the same lines as non metallic metal or object source lighting. Some people like it. Personally I don't think it looks good from all angles. They are things I wish would stay in the realm of 2d art.

    • @riggermortisfpv526
      @riggermortisfpv526 5 років тому +1

      I agree, Ive been painting about 30 years now and I have seen a lot of trend styles come and go, this one, I think, will go. It simply doesn't look good to me at all.

    • @Epicduck
      @Epicduck  5 років тому +2

      @@riggermortisfpv526 You're certainly entitled to your opinion, though I question why you'd spend your time watching videos pertaining to a style you vocally dislike.
