I've had mine for a few months, put 250 rnds of ball ammo through it before the snow started flying. Worked super, no misfeeds or other common failures. Hard to checker that aluminum frame front grip area so I get it. There are bits that can be applied if you really want to. Or there's just skate board type friction tape stuff that can be cut to fit. My other 1911s are full size all steel and they DO feature the checkering. Rubber Pachmayer grips are available of course as well. Be sure to invest in a Torx #15 screwdriver bit to remove those Springfield stock grips. For me I really didn't mind not having the checkering and the pistol sure looks fine as it comes out of the box.
