Good Morning!
Good morning
I love your leaves :) absolutely amazing
Thank you
Lovely! The leaf tutorials seems just the right size to be able to learn techniques, but not get overwhelmed with a more complex painting. About half way through the video, you mention that the paint must be fully dry before going on to the next layer. I have been meaning to tell you about what I discovered about using a hair dryer. As I have watched tutorials from various artists, there are some that use a dryer to speed things up, and those who never do. Seems like I remember you saying that you don't like to use one, either. Well, I was watching a video where they were trying out watercolor "hacks" and the artist tried using a blow dryer on her very wet paper. It blew way too hard, and she decided it wasn't for her either. It got me thinking. I have wavy/curly hair and I use a diffuser on my dryer. It's an inexpensive add on. Basically, it gets rid of the hard blast of air, and just the heat remains. On my low setting, it's perfect for drying paint. Since I have a limited time to sit down to paint, waiting for layers to dry means less actual painting time. I hope this helps someone else. I was very pleased with the results.
Thank you Vicki for the feedback. I think the issue with Me with the dryer is that it’s the heat that’s the issue not the air as such. It does something to the sizing of the paper in my opinion, but of course it’s important that folks do what’s right for them, and as you say, some people might find this really helpful and if it works then great.
@@helencampbell, on my dryer, I can choose no heat as well. When I experimented, I used medium, which was gentle, but I also have low, which would leave just a little air circulating, basically no heat, and would help things dry faster. I would love to know more about your opinion on what it does to the sizing. As a new painter, I have no experience with this.
@VickiWalton thank you very much. I think the problem for me is that it makes the paper feel harder somehow. I’m not sure whether it’s because of my environment or whether it’s just me, but it just makes the paper feel very different more crunchy, if that makes sense
@@helencampbell, I will watch out for that. Thank you!
Thanks. This was really helpful😊
Glad you found it helpful. Have you see. Our leaves playlist?
Another great video 👏
Thank you so much
Great tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you 🌸
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. I'd really like to see the serrated Rose leaf. Sometimes they turn out fine, but mostly they don't.
Thank you very much and thank you very much for the suggestion. I’m definitely going to do a rose leaf so keep an eye out in the future because I have plenty of photographs to paint from
What a wonderful and vibrant leaf. I love the rich colours that you’ve used. I’m looking forward to adding this to my painted leaf collection. Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. - Dawn 🌅

@@helencampbell I did do that. Thanks!
@paulinedrechsel7040 wonderful. We think they’ll be launching in April 2024.
@@helencampbell excellent !
Hi! I haven’t been able to watch this video yet, but hope I’m able to soon. I’m wondering if you think it’ll be possible to follow this tutorial if I’m using Derwent Inktense pencils too? Or is it better that I find one of the videos where you’re using Derwent Inktense too, to start with?
Hi. You can absolutely use those pencils. If you want to, it depends on whether you used to using them. If not, just take a little look at some of the inktense tutorials which we have on a playlist have a go at a couple of those and then maybe do this with the pencils?
Hi Helen, Will be doing this leaf soon. I want to get better painting negative space. I think I need to be a little bit more patient too. You didn't list Sap Green as one of the paints. Was it because it's a small amount? I'm a Patreon member too and so enjoy all the info and tutorials.
Hello Gloria and first of all, thank you for joining me on Patreon. I saw that you join me there recently. I think I made a mistake in not adding that green and yes you’re probably right because it was just a tiny amount.
I hope you can help me with this one, what Daniel Smith's Colors would you use instead of the Mijello ones u used? I'm not that good finding "dupes" of colors
Hi. Of course. You could use any colour yellow instead of the permanent yellow that I used, it doesn’t matter what brand they are pretty much of a muchness. Cobalt blue, you could substitute that with something like ultramarine and Van Dyke Green could be substituted with Perylene green or sap green mixed with something like an indigo or paynes grey, or in Daniel, Smith’s case Jane grey. Vandyke brown can be subbed with sepia with a bit of umber. Of course, it won’t be exactly the same, but it will certainly work for the tutorial and helps you with colour mixing et cetera
Ginkgo leaves, please!
Fabulous idea. Thank you
