The Cleveland Browns are one of the oldest professional football franchises in existence today. The team was first established way back in June of 1944.
The franchise was founded in 1945 by Paul Brown and businessman Arthur B. McBride as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). Although the franchise took a brief hiatus in the form of a ‘suspension’ between 1995 and 1999, they are now back where they belong, playing at FirstEnergy Stadium in front of the Cleveland Faithful.
And while A LOT has changed - both for the Cleveland franchise and within the landscape of professional football - one thing has remained constant…. The Browns ugly orange helmets… Which have somehow become one of the most iconic helmets in all of the NFL, despite being completely devoid of any logos and sporting a putrid shade of orange.
There are no sporty lightning bolts down the sides of them like the Los Angeles Chargers helmets… Nor are there any sleek ram horn designs on the sides like the Los Angeles Rams.
Just burnt orange.
So, on that note, let’s dive right into The Interesting Story of Why the Cleveland Browns Helmets are that UGLY Shade of Orange

The REAL REASON TPS made this video
They were out of ideas
Browns are still the hottest topic in the NFL

I don't understand why people talk 💩 about these helmets. These have a simple but ICONIC look. Sometimes simplicity is the best design in things. Unlike their uniforms (expect for the all-brown Color Rush unis, those actually look pretty dope), I'm glad they kept this helmet design over the years.
because they are uuuuuuugly
I don’t think Cleveland’s helmets are ugly there actually pretty DOPE

The team is named after Paul Brown not the color brown. My understanding is that Paul Brown believed the orange helmet to be more visible than other colors making it easier for the QB to spot receivers down field. This is the very same reason the Cincinnati Bengals also wear orange helmets. This helmet (and traditional uniform) is a classic, I hope they never make any serious changes to it. It is one of the best uniforms in the NFL....or all of sports for that matter. And I'm not even a Browns fan.
Remember reading the color scheme was in relation to when the Browns held their training camps in Bowling Green Ohio on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The story was that Paul Brown favored using the same brown and orange as the B.G. Falcons in an attempt to confuse any "spies" that might try to watch in on the Browns practices.
I was a campus tour guide at BGSU and can confirm this story.
I thought it was because Paul brown went to Massillon high school in Ohio because orange was their primary color in the color scheme
Those “ugly” helmets are the reason this is my favorite team.
Facts! And the older Jersey.
The browns are still garbage no matter what color they are
Yep stupid story about the orange! I'm a packers fan who loves the Browns helmets. Part of my childhood perhaps.

So the “dumb reason” that the helmet is orange is... because they decided they should be.

What, really!!?
the 07 uniforms are phenomenal. jim brown wore that. greatest running back ever, the browns 50s, 60s, and 80s success makes them a top ten nfl team in historical terms.
Legend has it that when Paul Brown held his first practices at the Bowling Green State University south of Toledo, and he liked the orange - brown combo that was worn by the schools football team...and that's the uniform scheme he went with, and as you may know, BGSU sports the same colors.
I happen to like the Brown’s Orange Helmets, they are clean & cool.
If the Browns dump their plain orange helmets, it's going to make me sad.

I like the Patriots old helmets with Pat the Patriot better than the new flying Elvis helmets.
I hate that logo! When Drew Bledsoe was introduced in 1993, he wore the Patriots' new design: one of the ugliest uniforms ever! Red Sox announcer Sean McDonough said (on TV, mind you), "Those new Patriots uniforms are absolutely hideous!"
Wish they would go back to the old helmets hell I might like them again
Having a plain helmet is not the real issue. Having a basic helmet as your team's logo is the eyesore. At least Penn State and Notre Dame have proper logos.
Two interesting things to note:
1. Paul Brown invented the face mask after his quarterback, Otto Graham, was severely hurt during a Browns game.
2. The first football team to put decals on their helmets was the high school team that Paul Brown began his coaching career at-the Massillon (OH) Tigers.
I'm a Steelers fan and I find this really stupid. They are not ugly. They are just orange. Out of ideas TPS?
Don't be hating on the color orange. Orange is the best color.
3 different QBs since their return? Am I hearing this guy wrong?
We don't need no stinking logos!
9:14 i like that dog on their helmet though.
The browns have some of the best helmets in the nfl they are not ugly

Is any research done on these videos? The Browns didn't decide to leave the AAFC in 1951, the Browns joined the NFL in 1950 when the Browns, 49ers and original Baltimore Colts were absorbed into the NFL from the AAFC. Also, it's not the University of Syracuse, it's Syracuse University. And why should the Browns change their helmet because you think it's ugly?
Amen!
2:24 why dont players have numbers on helmets sides anymore?
I don't get it
Yogurt Op fax I think numbers on the helmets look tuff
The chargers do now in their new uniforms
I like the orange, but there is always haters out there.
Both teams were founded by head coach Paul Brown, the namesake of the Browns franchise, who created the Bengals franchise in the American Football League (AFL) after he was fired from the Browns. The colors of each team are similar.
Bro they weren't named after a color they were named after the man Paul Brown..
Who decided orange is ugly?? I love orange.
Modell moved Browns to Baltimore, who had just recently lost the Colts. NFL intervened, Modell lost all intellectual property but retained the Players & Coaches (The Browns). NFL declares Browns in suspension, awards expansion franchise to Cleveland , who retains all intellectual property. Expansion Browns struggle while Ravens win 2 Super Bowls. I can't imagine the rage of Clevelanders watching Modell hoist the Lombardi. Orange, Brown & White are Browns colors in any configuration.
As a Cleveland Browns fan since 1985, I fully approve of using this guy 💩on the side of the helmets. Either that or the Dawg Logo (which would be awesome!!).
Browns are not named after a color, they are named after Paul Brown
Orange is an awesome color. Don't knock on it.
Justin, will you tell me a bedtime story.

Thumbs up for your username!! JF should narrate the Bible! That’d be cool
I love our helmets and the uniforms we came in with this season
I've thought that a solid brown helmet with an orange face mask and white and orange stripes on top of the helmet would look good. They are called the Browns. They have too much orange in their uniforms. Brown pants with an orange and white stripe would be nice too. It would be good with the white pants. No orange pants or jersey's.
No! If you’re not a Browns fan you don’t get this. The browns have never had a logo on their helmet and they never should! It’s unique and I love the fact it’s so simple. We have so little as Browns fans don’t take away our helmets as well
I didn't know people hated the orange helmets
Another comment don’t blame Art for moving to Baltimore, Cleveland NEEDED a new stadium Art was rich but not enough to build a stadium, Cleveland wouldn’t, Art Moved, Cleveland Built a new stadium to get a new franchise but still called the Browns.
This is a one of the most iconic and classic helmets in the NFL. If you think they're ugly, that's your problem. I suggest closing your eyes when you watch sports just in case there is some update involving the Browns. Then you'll never have to worry about being offended by that mean old Browns helmet.
Yeah, the Browns did, indeed, have the jersey # on the helmet between 2006 and 2008 - for their alternate kit...
I love the orange helmets! Orange is a major football color, unlike blue which is a baseball color
How in the hell did you come up with that?
Read title, thought to myself sure, im interested. Click video, TPS logo comes up. Instant regret.
They're not ugly, they're timeless. Also, the team was named for Paul Brown, not the color brown 🤦
I don't mind the plain orange helmets but I wish they would bring back their traditional uniforms and adopt some kind of logo for their branding. The one thing that annoys me is seeing an orange helmet in place of a logo on hats and t-shirts.
Otherwise I wish the Browns the best of luck and hope they can break through and finally win some playoff games and a championship.
The helmet is classic but I don’t like the two wider brown stripes on it. Can’t have everything!
The team was named after Paul Brown, not the color. Just like the Cubs were called "Caps" for Cap Anson or the Indians were the "Naps" for Nap LaJoie. So the helmet has nothing to do with the name of the team. And in fact Brown disliked the team being called that way. Yet it caught up and it remained. The Bengals also started using orange helmets when were founded by Paul Brown himself, they just added the name Bengals to make them different. Then they changed the color and added the stripes. So I guess there are two teams with basically the same helmet. By the way I don't think they're that ugly, but unmistakable. Besides you don't need a logo, or the Steelers would have half a good helmet, which they don't.
Anyone else notice how he didn't answer the question as to why the helmet is orange?
U don’t have very good inferencing skills
The introduction of orange coincides with the drafting of Jim Brown, who played at Syracuse, who have orange helmets. Coincidence, or providence, your guess as good as mine.
Leave the uniforms the way they are
The Browns have the best helmets in the league
Im from Wisconsin so a Packer fan, Browns helmet is not ugly, I like them
I like either the "little Browns elfy lookin guy" or the Bulldog thing would be great. It would be an awesome tribute to the loyal Dawg Pound fans. also liked the Football with the B in it as well. And a brown or white helmet. Leave the Orange as an alternate.
BTW i'm a Bears and Colts fan. Not that it matters... (I hope)
That is just disrespect to browns fans like me

Not anytime soon. More like Total Pro FOOTBALL
So true
Why are you guys dissing the color orange? It’s a good color
I love the orange helmet. I'm hoping they go back to the traditional uniform. The all white look with the sock and jersey stripes matching was as iconic as Yankee pinstripes to me. I hope I live long enough to see the end of the all dark monochromatic uniform phase. It used to be thought of as so "high school"
I call it the "Penn State effect",you make generic a thing
Interestingly the reason that the bengals also use very similar uniforms is because one of the guys that set them up used to work with the browns and took the uniforms with him when he left. There. I just made this video 100% more interesting.
Ugly Helmets it’s called tradition. They are some of the sharpest looking helmets in any sport. Tell me who your team is and I guarantee you they look better then your team
The helmets aren’t bad, they’re just objectively the worst because they have pretty much no design on them
Ok? What’s your point? It’s a classic clean look. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. I can think of a lot of college teams that have no logo on their helmets that are just as good
This should be the Browns emblem on their helmet 💩
You Ravens were the original Browns. What's that make the modern day Browns? Bird shit? Lol
Fluffy Bunny The white drippy stuff on cars, or the big pile of white stain on the ground?
@@mathiasmorqubus Big pile of white stain on ground. Cars move...and the Browns ain't going anywhere.

This is soo disrespectful to them the ugliest helmets are the pats flying Elvis! RAIDER Nation!
The team is called the browns but the helmet is orange lmaooooooooo
Can you do Top 10 worst players in the NFL?
This gives no 'Real Reason' why the helmets are orange. I'm from Ohio, just about an hour from Cleveland. I've heard the REASON is because at one point the team practiced at Bowling Green. Paul Brown liked the color scheme, so he poached it minus the green. I heard this from a BG alum in the early 2000s. Even if it is false it would still be a REASON, not just a video talking about history.
More than likely it was because of Paul Brown's hometown, Massillon Ohio, where he coached his old high school team, the Tigers, to 6 state championships and 4 NATIONAL championships. He considered those years the happiest of his life. He returned every year to visit and he is buried there. The Tigers colors are ORANGE and black. I have a suspicious feeling it was also a major factor in choosing to name his Cincinnati team after the bengal TIGER. Paul Brown was a Massillon Tiger from beginning to end probably bled ORANGE and black.
ua-cam.com/video/mJyR0jI_atw/v-deo.html
Die hard Browns fan here. Honestly I was extremely disappointed when then announced that they where coming back as the Browns with the same color and and uniforms maybe a fresh start and the team would be in a different place now as far as champions
U tripping
I always thought that it was interesting that Paul Brown used the same colors as the Browns when he moved to Cincy and started the Bengals. There was no contest to chose a name or colors it was just what Paul wanted- so he got it. The uniforms are now the absolute ugliest in the league.
As a Giants fan I liked the Browns helmets. It's a burnt orange because it was named after their coach. Please stop hating on them and embrace it.
Beautiful helm don't know what he's talking about. They will just end up with helms that look like the ugly jags helms
As someone who grew up two blocks from the training facility- for fucks sake just put a dog on it- it’s not hard. Everyone loves dogs. It’d be awesome. Let’s not overthink this one.
There are about 5-6 teams that should NEVER change their uniforms and the Cleveland Browns are definitely one them.
The current uniforms are stupidand they should go back to the Jim Brown / Bernie Kosar style uniforms.
Plus I LOVE the logo-less helmets. It's like Paul Brown went to a sporting goods store and picked the cheapest uniforms he could find. "There's a discount on the generic orange and brown ones? I'll take them! It costs an extra dollar per helmet for a logo decal? No thanks!"
All those alternate uniforms in the video suck BTW.
I've wondered the same thing about Auburn football. Why do they chant "War Eagle" when their mascot is the Tigers, and the color auburn is not in the uniform colors?! Then, I remember: It's Auburn.🤪🥴
They became much worse looking when they moved South, became purple and adopted a poem for its new nickname.
I speak for all Browns fans by replying with this:🖕🖕
The team can't get their shit together but their uniforms are best in the league. Oh, and they were not "quite literally named after a color", they were named after Paul Brown.
It's kind of nice that the Browns have that orange helmet.
I have no proof for my following theory of why Paul Brown chose the color orange for the Browns, but being from his hometown and experiencing the same DEEP football culture, I think it's the correct one.
It's my opinion that the Browns wear orange because of Paul Brown's love of his hometown, Massillon, Ohio. There he coached his old high school team, the Tigers, to 6 state championships and 4 NATIONAL championships. He was known throughout as the "Miracle Man from Massillon." He considered those years the happiest of his life. He returned every year after to visit and he is buried there. The Tigers colors are ORANGE and black.
I have a suspicious feeling it was also a major factor in choosing to name his Cincinnati team after the bengal TIGER. Paul Brown was a Massillon Tiger from beginning to end probably bled ORANGE and black.

their not ugly their colorful, love the all orange uniform that alternate, also the Cleveland name on uniform rocks
Bruh seriously this is what makes the team stand out
Plus the guy narrating this video is pretty ugly himself so let's refrain from the word ugly for these helmets since they're what makes the browns stand out
"TRIGGERED" are we??? 🤔🤔🤔
Orange is the greatest color and they're orange uniforms in the early 2000s are the best.
This is a good example of why I unsubscribed from TPS a long time ago
Oh lord he gonna say something about the cowboys again “they’re uniforms are almost as bad as the Dallas Cowboys” HEY TPS HOW ABOUT “top 10 times Justin fraction trashed the cowboys”
We don’t need a logo. Our helmet/uniforms are unique amongst the NFL. Only cincy has similar colors. Maybe we should be like the patriots, bills, giants, Texans, and titans who all use the same damn colors.
Let me get this straight... The logoless orange helmet makes the Cleveland Browns unique, which in turn makes it marketable. So the solution is to slap a contrived logo on the sides and change the color to make it marketable
👍 Got it
Cleveland and Orange both sum to 33 in Gematria. Its coded by numbers and the stories are told through the numbers!
The helmets are boring but calling them ugly is definitely a stretch.
You disrespected my favorite team’s look on my birthday
Ouch
There's nothing wrong with the Brown's helmet. It's one of the best. Iconic. The Raven and Patriots have the worst helmets.
