      Any time you work off the clock means your total hourly pay is being cut by however many hours you’re not getting paid. If you work 10 hrs but are only paid for 8, even if your pay is $12/hr, 12x8=96, divided by 10, now your hourly pay is $9.60/hr over that 10hr shift since you worked 2 hrs for free. Anyone telling you to work off the clock is actually cutting your hourly pay so get pissed at them. If they say the same thing happens to them since they’re salaried, ask for their take home pay with benefits and bonus and then you’ll work the same salaried hours.

    The more and more I hear about employment in the US. The more I think their system is jacked. The whole "at-will" thing is brutal. At least here in the UK, we have two sets of rights protecting us. Statutory and Contractual. It's certainly not perfect by any means, but it's a damn sight better than what some people put up with across the pond.

    • @IridescentW
      @IridescentW Рік тому +4

      @tjsam805 There's a lot of things your job can't fire you for. They just reduce you to 4 or 8 hours per week, and then you have to find another job anyway because you can't live off that amount.
      For some reason this fun loophole of "we're not firing you but we're dropping your hours to 20% of what you were getting before" is allowed. Kinda defeats the purpose of "they're not allowed to fire you."

    • @tjsam805
      @tjsam805 Рік тому +2

      @zBorderPatrol not allowed in whistle blower cases. that would be considered retaliation and land the employer in a lawsuit. if you're able to prove that they are doing it as retaliation like you have no disciplinary action on file and nobody else has hours cut then you can make a case out of it

    • @IridescentW
      @IridescentW Рік тому +2

      @tjsam805 I'm not sure if that would work in these jobs where hours are always changing. That seems easier to prove in jobs where everyone is always full time.
      And I don't know about whistle-blowers, I'm thinking more about all the jobs cutting hours when someone gives their 2 week notice, or if the person did something not that bad, but a manager didn't like it and is "punishing" them.
      They also cut hours when they want to fire someone but won't because they don't want to pay unemployment. It just seems like a lot of ways that employees are meant to be protected by firings are just sidestepped by cutting hours. And these rules that are supposed to help employees, like unemployment, refuse to address the easy loophole of cutting hours.

    Chipotle is unique in that it competes in the fast food world but has the labor intensive prep work of a sit down place. Not just taking crap from the walk-in and dumping it on or in something to cook it. Go ahead. Make your own chips, salsa, or guacamole at home and let me know how much fun you had.
    They want to blame staffing issues on anything else but their poor management. Well, that and just plain greed. They continue to add on more processes and procedures that slow up the work. The digital make line is a joke. Spitting out more orders at one time than it's humanly possible to complete. And your still putting together a huge catering order all while still trying to serve the actual customers in the building. But they insist that you can do more with less and less budget for staff. Unions also keep corporations honest when they are trying to break laws to screw their own workers. If they are willing to steal from their own employees, they won’t hesitate to steal from other businesses or from the government. An honest business practice aims to benefit everyone involved and to take care of the environment for future generations so that there is a future customer base serve, future workforce to continue to employ and future marketplace in which to continue the business.

    Slavery was never abolished, it was extended from blacks only to be a “benefit” for all skin colors. This struggle you guys are fighting was fought 100 years ago and we know have human rights for all. As long as workers vote for guys like Trump you are toast. Keep up the fight guys. Cheers from the 🇪🇺 where 4 weeks of paid vacation is compulsory and healthcare and child care is cheap or free. Maternity leave for both parents with pay up to two years, yes we have it.

    I'm not necessarily defending most of this, but seven hours without a break? Where I'm from, at least, there are NO laws for breaks for adults. That's not even a "full" shift. I was used to that by the end of high school. (There were strict labor laws but mistakes happened)

    If this closes stores, it sounds to me like the problem is taking care of itself. I don't understand why fast food employment is worth so much energy to keep. Just keep exposing them & go find a decent employer. They are out there, presuming you're a decent employee. This is what I've done, and it works beautifully. Plus I keep making money while being a whistleblower. I find the whistleblower business is easier if I can eat.

    Got COVID, manager yelled at me and said I should’ve “planned better” and it was my responsibility to contact my coworkers and find coverage. I was new and shy so I had nobody’s number, she yelled at me for that too. When I got better first thing i did was turn in my two weeks. She told me to put it with the stack of everyone else’s two weeks. She also would bring her infant in a stroller and park it by the register her whole shift
    Also brushing sexual harassment and assault under the rug. The manager who hired me openly flirted with underage staff and groped one of the staff I was friends with. He threatened the dude if he snitched he would fire him. Everyone knew about it but no one said anything because the poor guy didn’t want us to “make things worse”
    That manager later got fired for being caught having sex with an employee in the hallway where we take our trash out. There’s cameras.

    Work at a resturaunt and we don't get breaks. It's sureal to think that it's legally required everywhere but the resturaunt industry. I worked 11 hour shift on valentines day with no break and almost passed out. Got yelled at by so many people because the owner overbooked the resturaunt and people had to wait up to an hour for reservations. They require those hours of me every holiday. Oh yeah.
    No paid time off, paid sick leave, or benifits either :)

Well long story short they were abusive condescending and were still money from me! I left quick! I lost a family member a month ago and I went into work an hour early to talk to my manager about maybe leaving early that day to spend some time with my family and before I could even get it out I was being attacked and screamed at!
