Amazing video, thank you sm man. Excited to continue following your journey with this car. Driving an 07K mk6 Jetta right now, but I have big dreams of dropping it in a mk2 when I can, one day. Will definitely be looking to these videos for reference
No I never cracked it open minus repairing the timing cover, just cleaned it up and painted it, but it was relatively “low” miles, 100k. Thank you btw!
Have you considered doing a power steering delete, and using a manual steering rack? The weight saving may not make as much differnce as it did on my 16v, but the rotaional mass diffence feels good on every motor.... The real reason to do it is the insane tactile feel of every grain of sand on the road.
@@brett.mk2 If only there weren't so few modern cars that speak to the driver so intimately as a mk1 or mkii gti the world might be a less stressful place..
Brother, did you ever consider an 02Q instead of an O2M if you went 6 speed. I'm just wondering if the transmission mounting location is different, think its time for a mk2 07K Boosted build.
I did not. The kit I have was made for an 02j and I guess I never really considered any other options. Tbh, I like the 5 speed. I don’t drive the car long distances often, so the short gearing is super fun. But, if you’re going boosted you may want the longer gears😂
I think it’s funny that tons of people hate on the 5cyl mk5 an and there’s not much support for them…(compared to a gti or a vr6, etc) But there’s tons of people that jump on it and rant and rave about 07k swaps or the Daza swaps(basically an Audi turbo 07k)..
I think with the 07k in the mk5, it’s underpowered for the chassis. But in a mk2 or lighter chassis, it makes for a great alternative to other swap options. It’s still a great engine if you’re not concerned about power
@@brett.mk2 no dont go turbo , not unless you do quattro or syncro 4wd of some sorts. Trust me, that mk2 is already bitching for grip and turbo charging it will send power levels beyond enjoyable levels. My dad was an absolute vw believer and we both loved the 5cyl engines to bits (and pieces sometimes) .In south africa , back in the day , we had an audi 500turbo (think its called a 5000 there i the usa ) but it was only available in auto for obvious reasons. Me and my dad thought it was dumb so we converted it to manual. The engine in the audi is mounted transversely so space is better but even with the old 2.2 sohc 10v setup plus turbo and ftermarket ecu , it was impossible to get it off the line. As soon as the turbo spools all hell breaks loose!!!! Upgrade the tires didnt help allot , semi slicks did bite but then we broke all sorts of other parts , motor mountings , cv joints(lots of ) and even twisted a sideshaft as if it was was plastic. So what!!!! The noise, no not noise. The sound of a 5cyl under load at wot is unbeatable ! especially in the case of this mk2 when the rpm hits the sweet spot, look at this guys neck pulling , thats the sweet spot im talking about! Anyways , thats just my op..
video is pretty much worthless, you are trying to make a funny video like scotty kilmer does for people who don't know much about working on cars. What CV shafts go with that transmission? What radiator did you use, what radiator hoses, you said nothing about power steering system, you said nothing on how to make instrument cluster work with swap, what down pipe to use? then ECU has to be programmed for the swap? there is way more to this. You say you want E30 to do some swap, well I am into E30 swap, what if I told you dude just get S52 with E34 oil pan and Getrag 260, you don't know what I am talking about right?
I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but did you want me to hold your hand during the swap? Axles come with the swap kit, mk3 vr6 rad, upper and lower hoses from eurowise, rest you can use stock mk2, car is manual rack, instrument cluster doesn’t work right now, make your own downpipe. Swap tune from United Motorsport.

That’ll be sick! Thanks man! The google doc will continued to be updated so hopefully I can put enough info out there to be helpful
Sweet videos.
Sweet swap.
Takes me back to high school.

Funny man with funny jokes 😂 loving your content
Nice so close to 1k subs. I hope you hit that soon.
„Holy Scheisse“ that’s how you make a german guy smile 😂. Greetings from Germany btw. 👋🏻
Hahah that’s awesome! Glad I could get you to smile😂
Needs boost and 26 inch diameter drag radials with a 2.0 na o2j trans with a diesel fith gear. if your going to keep up with cars nowadays.
I got BBS RMs and the OG snowflakes. Do I need the RML Snowflakes for my car to run? 😅
Pretty good video im trying vr6 or k2o in my cabrio 5 speed cov with its project daily last 7 years
Great work, im looking at starting a mk2 project with the 07k swap. Did you rebuild the engine out of the junkyard? It looks so clean!

It’s already manual rack haha
@@brett.mk2 Sexy
And I thoroughly enjoy the manual rack for that exact reason!😂

Whaaaaaat? You mean you haven't documented every single step to train others???? Nice job btw... And crocs.
Lmao I guess I should’ve been training people… 🤦🏻♂️ thanks man, and thanks for the crocs compliment that’s huge
I wanna put this in my mk2 Jetta coupe so bad. Automatic ce1 car though I wanna 5 speed swap
Curious about putting one in a MK3.5 Cabrio…

I wanna swap one into my 93 eurovan.
Good job
