The Steam Deck is already a powerful handheld, but pair that with a DOCK (or any USB-C Hub really) and it becomes a POWERHOUSE of a home console as-well. A hybrid akin to a Nintendo Switch...

12:20 When you go in Desktop Mode to display configuration.. you can reset your saved display settings by using "for any display arrangement" or "for only this specific display arrangement" to solve your display port problem.
It didn’t work for me, please help, my hdmi and display port doesn’t work. The steam deck recognizes there is a dock though. The USB ports and stuff still work, just doesn’t output
@@Mingodough in newest steam beta update you can set up safe mode in settings. This might help
@@damianabregba7476 where in settings? It doesn't even detect my hdmi or display port, just the dock
@@Mingodough While undocked.. switch to Desktop Mode. Go to system settings.. Display and Monitor.. and then Display Configuration. There you have two options to save your settings. "For any display arrangement" or "for only this specific display arrangement." Depending on wich setting it already is you have to try both until its working again. It actually worked for me. My TV went black while trying some display settings. This is how i've got it back working.
@@Mingodough Also in the same settings screen.. check under devices if the correct screen is selected. "enabled" and 'primary" are also some settings to look out for while working on multiple screens.
In a recent update valve added a developer option to enable a safe mode which automatically reverts the settings when the steam deck tries to output and unsupported resolution/ refresh rate. That should fix your black screen issue
Can you explain how to get to safe mode? My hdmi and displayports don’t output anything.
This option saved my ass and got my monitor working well!
@@Mingodough couldn’t you just do it through the steam decks display?
the fact that it fits perfectly in the back of the Deck case makes it a perfect option for bringing your Steam Deck to a friend's house or when youre going out of town

I bought a generic USB-C dock and later a Jsaux 2.0 dock and neither of them worked with my 4k TV (sync/screen tearing on older Samsung). The SteamDeck Dock worked immediately and with a good refresh rate. The SD Dock also gets fimeware upgrades directly through the Steam Deck. Pretty neat! But yes expensive. The extra charger is worth it though, Jsaux borrows the original charger to operate.
1:00 Glad you understand that there's nothing special about the switch dock. A lot of people don't understand that because it's design is extremely misleading and can lead you to believe that there's extra processing inside of it.
its kinda weird that the switch is smaller but the dock is big. while steam deck is bigger, but the dock is compact.
i love how valve manage to make the dock simple yet get the job done.
Like he said it's Nintendo that made the dock really big for some reason
But the steam dock's price is not "simple". The other brand of SD dock also simple, get the job done, but cheaper.
The switch dock was made to prevent the switch from getting damaged. Their target audience range is much lower so it makes sense from a design point.
@@justincred16 Except it damaged alot of switchs screens because it was cheap plastic

I clicked on a Steam Deck video and ended up ordering a display port cable 😂
14:03 A quick correction! There is actually at least 1 controller that wakes the Steam Deck: The Steam controller via USB dongle. There might be a few others that wake it via dongle but that requires testing(perhaps the 8-bitdo dongle?).
i have a steam controller with the JSAUX dock and it does not wake the steam deck.. perhaps this is a reason to get the official dock?
@@aarons7615 I'm using a JSAUX dock. Are you using the USB dongle? It won't work via Bluetooth.
@@TheWax70 yeah thats weird, i have to investigate more.. i have the usb dongle and powered on the steam controller and nothing. are you confusing waking the steam deck from screen off vs sleep? it will turn the screen on, just moving the controls does that. i just set my SD to not sleep and its fine for a quick fix.

also switch games?
@@idol5948 Yep.
@@idol5948 if you are okay with stealing then yes, though playing on native hardware is still a better experience with many switch games (some are great though).
@@idol5948 no multiplayer allowed though
@@raskolnikov6443 That is just straight up false. Playing on an emulator is much better since upscaling can be achieved and 60 fps patches can be applied. You can also mod the games and run them better since they're running on better hardware.
Another thing to note is that almost every non nintendo game is on PC. And for the ones that aren't, you can emulate them really well on the deck.
I just tested it... My Valve Steam Deck Dock works with Samsung DeX. This is my new favorite dock.
Wait so i could use my Samsung Galaxy tab 7 and output to my tv with the steam deck dock??? Nice!
I used my dock to run the S7 Tab in Steamlink mode synced to my steam deck while using Ethernet and Omgggggg!!!! 4K with no tearing at all...🎉❤
1:20 I know I'm nitpicking (sorry), but the CPU clocks on the Switch stay the same when docked, the GPU gets a boost, though! =D
Compared to the JSAUX dock that's $50 it really isn't that much more expensive since it comes with a charging cable as well. I don't know how much I'll honestly use the dock other than like you said 'as a display and charger' but it's nice to have the option. I have been using a mouse on it when I'm sitting at the desk and that's nice to just leave in there.
I use my jsaux dock alot. Makes having a m&k setup to organize roms an stuff alot easier.
Charger AND displayport port. Jsaux is HDMI only.
I think the Nintendo Switch dock was purposely design that way so to make the Switch look like a home console. When you inserted the Nintendo Switch tablet onto the Switch dock, it feels like you're inserting a cartridge onto a console like the old days of the NES, Super NES, and N64.
They added an option for an "external display safe mode" in an update a few days ago, that should help you fix the DisplayPort problem. Also not to nitpick but there is a controller that can wake the Deck: the Steam Controller!
We Need A Steam Controller 2, Designed For The Dock N Deck. 😉

2 things to highlight about the steam dock I'd like to highlight. One fsr will upscale stuff to 4k. Vrr/FreeSync support will be added later on, not sure it'll be DisplayPort or HDMI. FreeSync dose both, but up to the manufacturer

What's VRR?
@@Kevin-sl3gk variable refresh rate. it makes the screens refresh rate match the games fps. reducing latency as much as possible.
Such an amazing rundown about how good the Deck actually is, especially docked! Went through plenty of my old pre-Gen8 games and had a blast to see how many actually work at native 4k60. I’ve also had this weird DP issue you mentioned, but Valve just made a beta update available which fixes that through a safe mode switch.
I agree on the Steam Deck Dock. I was so excited it was in stock and was about to order it but then I was like..."wait...I don't need this".
I ended up buying the JSAUX dock (because the valve one was not available) and its a really good one to compare to the Valve dock
I bought the Jsaux dock and it effed up my surround sound system because no sound would play through it when the jsaux dock was connected.
Got the Steam Deck Dock and i have had no issues with it, thanks in part to the easy updates.
@@michaelp.3485 Really? With the official dock and a cheap dock I get the same "issues": needing replug it to switch to surround multichannel pcm.
On the plus side with the jsaux it's better than the steam dock for covers like silicone covers on the steam deck you don't have to take the cover off where the official steam dock you do because it's so stylish for the USB cable it won't fit and it's too small on its stand area to fit esteem Deck with a silicone cover on it
The update to reset resolution in the developer settings was literally released today. (beta branch i think)
also the Display Port is supposed to be able to do FreeSync, which is just THE killer feature if you have a FreeSync monitor.
What does free sync do and I have a LG c1 I'm not sure if it has display port
@@Spencerwalker21 freesync is a variable refresh rate solution (vrr), which basically means if the game fps fluctuates, the monitor will match. The monitor will only draw a new image when the computer is done, eliminating tearing.
@@Spencerwalker21 FreeSync is AMDs marketing term for Variable Refresh Rate.
It dynamically adapts the refresh rate of the monitor to the FPS of the game on the fly, reesulting in much smoother motion and fixes screen tearing without the additional inputlag of V-Sync.
Let me google that screen for you... "The C1 is a better gaming TV, with four HDMI 2.1 ports, support for variable refresh rate technology (VRR), and a 120Hz refresh rate."
VRR is effectively the same as FreeSync, FreeSync is just AMDs marketing term for it and on PC it was available first via DisplayPort.
VESA calls it VRR or VRF or VFR for HDMI ports on TVs and i think it is officially supported from HDMI 2.1 forward but best to look it up specifically to make sure.
Nvidia calls it G-Sync and has some proprietary modules in certain PC displays (like mine) but by now also allows FreeSync Monitors to work on Nvidia Cards. .... just not the other way around (which means i actually need to get a new Display if i want to use FreeSync ... well, with the next upgrade)
The Steam Deck Dock only has HDMI 2.0 ... i don't know if that will work for your screen.
But there is always a chance they add it later via Firmware Update, so make sure to keep an eye on those patchnotes.
Just FYI: The current gen Xbox and PS5 also support VRR via HDMI, those should work on your LG c1.
@@ZeroB4NG I'm hoping the 40hz mode can at least get patched in it would make some games smoother yes I can run some older games at 60fps 1440p but it's not stable not stable but 40 is a perfect sweet spot.

I use my Steam Deck docked to my TV. I like the comfortable chair :). I do have a gaming PC if I really want better graphics, but I play a lot of indie titles and such so the extra power of the PC isn't really something I miss too much. Although recently in Timberborn my colony is getting large enough that the difference between the CPUs is noticeable. The Steam Deck will struggle when I set the speed to maximum, but my PC won't even notice.
I definitely love being able to share saves between PC and the Steam Deck. It's one of my favorite features.
I do like being able to use 4K in desktop mode, for watching UA-cam and such. Although I've been keeping it in 1080p because resolution scaling in Linux is really bad when switching between portable and docked.
The only thing that is limiting me on the steam deck is that Im already very invested in the switch, even going as far as getting a couple of games again on it, just so I have everything together. And even though the switch is aging it for sure will be compatible with the next Nintendo handheld, whenever that will be.
Emulation. If there’s games from your childhood or you just want to try something retro that isn’t a priority for game devs to republish, that’s your only option (in most people’s practical terms). Sky’s of Arcadia for instance. I literally can’t buy it on for modern hardware. I own it but don’t want to have to play it on a Dreamcast, and all that entails.
When I got my deck I had 2 switches already an original and OLED…and about 88 games I even own dead cells prisoners edition for my switch…I don’t really play the switch anymore…I don’t hate it just played third party titles on it…never beat any of their first party titles since owning of 4 years.
PC will be compatible forever...
Lol the pirates ☠️ have no shame
@@DnVFMVs emulation does not equate to pirating, only thing stopping me from emulating a Switch is the fact I already have one
The dock does makes a nice set up for something like a bedroom TV where a computer isn't around, although the beauty of playing a Steam Deck is that you can already play it in bed anyway.
You forgot to mention the Valve Dock can update its firmware via your steam deck automatically when you plug it in. Unlike other docks.
Tbh the Dock would be perfect for students who just moved out of their house and live independently, just get a Steamdeck and a cheap dock and you have an all in one game console that also serves as a computer without having to break the bank
I can see the dock being worth it for somebody who's willing to make the steam deck their main computer, similar to how people use a laptop as their everywhere computing device. I don't fit that category of user, but I can imagine there being someone out doing that since it absolutely can be done.
facts
14:03 fun fact the steam controller is actually capable of waking it up. Hope they release a second one at some point as it would be a good combo with the steam deck
My steam controller didn't, with the dongle and without?
Mine doesnt wake it up. do you have the dongle plugged into the USB or use i bluetooth?
Hey Bob, just wanted to say that your content is just, so chill yet so energetic and i love it. And also, Bob is just such a pure name.
Bobert be Roppin ! xD
There's another use case for this dock: to use the steam deck as a computer. The steam deck is, no joke, more powerful than many people's computer and for the price is a great one. Having the dock on the desk connected to all monitors, ethernet and peripherals, makes you able to just arrive on your desk, plug a single cable and have your computer ready. Valve is sadly letting the desktop mode get behind in terms of updates, KDE desktop is already very outdated, but it's still a great computer for many. It's even awesome as a second computer in pair with your main one at your desk in many situations.
I'd definitely have use cases for the Deck dock. My gaming PC is heavy and so it's a pain to move around. The Steam Deck plus the Dock will allow me to bring it to a friends house or just set it up in my living room to play my vast Steam Library with friends and family.
Retro Game Corps does a nice dock comparison video which includes a dock that can hold an extra m.2 drive....pretty cool.
Steam deck has made travel so much more convenient since I no longer have to hulk a giant glass paneled desktop pc around town with a bunch of strangers shooting me the stink eye. Having a dock (or dongle) for the device is still a great idea no matter what your case is since it makes it convenient to stream your desktop to your living room for example (Provided you don't already have dedicated devices for this) It really highlights the idea that the Steam Deck is a swiss army knife for gamers.
Never considered a gaming laptop before the steam deck was announced?
@@gerboog gaming laptops are hella expensive

Price point is better than anything out there for what you receive but what do I know. I'm in fanboy mode.
Get the nreal air ar glasses for your steamdeck. It probably wont be super useful if you only want to play at your desk, but if you have to take a flight or train, you can have a tv display infront of you, save battery power, and noone can look over your shoulder to see what you are doing. And its a cool video topic if you want to write it off on your taxes.
The main difference between the steam deck dock and the alternatives like the Jsaux one is, it comes with a charger, it has faster USB ports, higher bandwidth Display port and HDMI ports and is way more convenient to update, for example when you plug the official dock into the deck, the deck will automatically detect it and update the firmware of the dock, the unofficial Jsaux one requires you to download their tool on windows to then update it
Sweet video I am currently not interested in. Steam deck ATM but I like getting information that might change that
Something to note on the pricing:
Valve’s dock is more expensive than others mostly because it includes the charger. JSAUX’s and all the others I’ve seen do not.
Well, While That May Be Slightly True, It's Also More Bc It's By Valve Themselves, N It Is Supported Long Term With Regular Updates By Steam To Keep It Up To Date, Some Folks Don't Understand This Factor, At Least The One's That Don't Own A Deck N The Dock Together. 😉 3rd Party, Don't Update Their Docks, Unlike Steam's Brand, That's The HUGE Difference When U Want Ur Dock To Be Updated When U Update Ur Monitor's. 🙏
Yep. I think the Valve dock is for people who just want to spend some money and not think about it. If you're tech savvy it's probably better to get a different dock, to get the features that you want, to get a better price, and also to avoid unnecessary e-waste.
@@realchris4882 Valve’s updates to their dock will apply to all docks. The updates happen in the Steam Deck, not the dock. The dock is simply a hub with a stand built in.
@@psyberiusblack I Disagree, When U Connect Third Party Docks, U Don't Get The Official Steam Deck Dock Notification To Update The Official Dock, Sorry, Ur Wrong.

This thing is though is it may not be as noticeable but most of the cheaper Anker docks only support 30fps. Most of the good ones that support 60fps are about the same price or more than the official dock. I figured in order to avoid compatibility issues it’s just easier to go with the official one. I could see cheaper options being good for those who don’t really care or don’t want to spend much.
Being able to run the UI at 1440p at 120hz via hdmi 2.0 is pretty clutch imo. Able to play RL at 120fps at 720p really impressed me 🎉
are you good at rocket league steam deck
@@QuicklyFreeze The steamdeck is a great device to practice mechs or do workshop maps when you're in bed or on a flight. I don't recommend it for competitive. Even though the game can run quite well at 720p, the fact that the game is not native to Linux I get microstutters and what feels like input lag. I would recommend a ROG Ally instead or installing windows on your deck. Its better for single player games or like I said if you want to pass the time training.
Also no bakkes :(
Great video. I actually like the USB-C on the top. It bugged me at first, but realized I play the Steam Deck on my living room chair more than any place else, and play while charging. It would be terrible to have the USB out the bottom while trying to rest the SD on my lap.
Also for the most part, when you buy games on steam, as long as you have a PC you can always play that game years down the road and not wait for a remaster or port for current gen systems

One thing to keep in mind, some third-party adapter/dongles/docks don’t provide the full power to charge while you play on the big screen, even with the original charger.
I like it. Was expecting more from it… but it’s a PC interacting with a USB-C docking station. What more could it do? However, I’ve never had an issue with a Switch dock packed in my bag, sure the footprint is larger, but it’s still light enough to move around. It behaves with its Dock the same way an iPad (or any USB-C tablet) does while plugged into a dock. It offers a small chip to bump up the resolution and power going to the Tegra SoC. Where the Valve APU from AMD doesn’t change its behaviors at all, whether it’s plugged in or not… which is how a PC behaves. It’s apples to oranges in this case. Would you compare your iPad to your PC?
It’s really the brilliant side of Valve’s marketing on the Deck: call it a PC and not a console, then we don’t have to be stuck or chained. Also, anyone who’s worked on ANY computer knows this, change anything on the inside, the manufacturer will defacto blame your change. If my late 2018 Mac mini decides to go awry, I’m gonna have to pull out the 32GB Crucial RAM and put Apple’s back into it for coverage. I’m sure if I change out my 2230 drive in my Deck, then something goes wrong, Valve will tell me I broke it.
Whereas my console fails, that’s a manufacturer issue within their warranty.
Please note, I mean anything within the manufacturer’s warranty and not beyond.
Love the video. Still some of the best produced content comes from you as always
I got the JSAUX Ver.2 model with the faster USB ports, but prior to the newer m.2 dock they've now released, and it does everything I'd want it to do as long as you use a USB-C adapter that throws enough power at it (whether it be the official one, or a Nintendo Switch one, for example).
I'm not into PC gaming at all, so a dock would be essential for me. But a Steam deck is very expensive, and I'd have to buy one in 1st place
Who’s watching this not owning a SteamDeck….yet.

When you're tryna watch the only ads you actually watch on UA-cam and it's interrupted by an ad on UA-cam...
When I went to visit family, I only brought a cheap usb c dock and that worked with my switch perfectly as long as I had it plugged into the official charging cable
Thanks Bob. Been waiting for more Steam Deck videos Bob. Have a good day Bob.
Steam Deck has been a blast, I’ve only had issues with downloads and some boot ups of certain games. Other than that, I highly recommend!
I came here for one reason only.
The video is over 18 minutes long and I needed to know why this video was more than 5 minutes long.
I misread the title and I thought you were going to try to plug in the switch dock to the deck. Now I wonder if it works, but that would require to disassemble the switch dock. I have female-to-female USB-C adapters but that doesn't work for HDMI, only USB 3 and power delivery.
4k 60hz and DisplayPort are important to me because I want to use the deck as an actual computer. 4k 30hz feels sluggish, because how slow the mouse pointer reacts, and I have trouble pointing to things.
As much as I wouldn’t want to risk scratching up the screen, and I don’t know why but I get this real anxiety looking at these steam deck docks that don’t have anything covering the front of the deck and have only a tiny bit to lay the back on
I completely agree with your conclusions. The Steam Deck Dock is the perfect extension to the flexibility that the functionality of the Deck provides.
However, Valve's openness in allowing the Deck to use any generic USB-C dock, let's people who don't want to shell out the $90 for the Dock+Charger also benefit from the work they've put into the docked experience.
I grabbed a JSaux dock like a week before the SDD dropped, but I don't feel like I'm missing out or getting a compromised knock-off experience. It perfectly fits my Deck with the Killswitch case, and playing Death Stranding at an upscaled 4K30 looked incredible, and was a lot easier to set up than getting my PC to run on the TV.
In my case, when I got my steamdeck in mid August, I installed emudeck for the emulators. I tried 3 different USB-C hubs (including Anker) to connect my deck to my friend's TV to play Goldeneye. The frames were terrible. I tried to look for a solution but no luck. When I got the Valve dock, the frames worked like exactly on the deck. Maybe it was an update but I'm not sure on that.
You can also use USB-C dongles to dock the Switch. They just only work if you use Switch-specific USB-C charger (official or third party) with it. Sold my official switch dock after I found this out. Dongles are so much easier to transport.
The audio is a bit blown out on this one? Otherwise great video.
i'll give you that consoles have always been easy to turn on and start playing where pc gaming has been a pain sometimes to get games to run but no matter what steam deck can still do a better job in games then a switch
1:53 That image is the definition of Evil.. 2 of the biggest giants in their respective fields fused together..
The difference between the two is that if you use some third party docks with your Nintendo Switch, you have a chance to brick it.
Generally into your uploads, but the ads are my favorite parts 😄
I bought the steam dock and was disappointed the size for the steam deck is too small for covers to fit into compared to JASUX on top of that they made the USB type-c cable from the steam doc two stylish to fit on a steam Deck with a cover so both the bottom and the top can't fit unless you take off the cover which again you don't have that issue with the third party docks unless you get a kill switch case which is even thicker than your standard silicone cover
7:35 this competitor dock does not come with a power supply. Which I think is an important thing to note.
Bob's videos are my comfort food.
While no controller can turn the steam deck on from your couch. If you set up your steam deck to use Steam Link you can wake your deck up via the Steam Link app on your phone (tested on Android I don't have an apple product to test on) even if the app says your offline. The last pc you connected to has to be the steam deck as you can't choose offline consoles in the app but it works if you just hit 'start playing' for some reason.
I got the JSAUX USB 3.0 dock before the official dock was released and it works perfectly fine for my use case. No DisplayPort but for hooking the Deck up to a big TV that's not an issue. It is nice to be able to dock the Deck and game on the TV.
I preferred to build a mini-itx for the TV to preserve the deck's hardware/battery. Plus the power is much more appropriate for 1080p@60. Just a 25$ usb-c hub is fine if I need to plug keyboard and mouse in holidays
Yeah, that's probably a better move if you want a PC/Home console hybrid. The deck dock to me is more for portability to bring to friends' houses or if I temporarily want to play a game for a little bit on my TV.
Great Usecase for the Dock is to just Hook it up to the TV that's far away from your gaming pc, but where you probably already have an ethernet connection and instead of running a very long cable to your TV just stream your games to your deck. Works a million times better on steamdeck that on steamlink
I have that exact anker dongle for like 2 years now and it's made me forget sometimes that I've been using a gaming laptop as my main PC.
i couldn't wait, so i got a third party dock, though I kind of wish I waited. but even so, I don't have a fancy gaming rig, so being able to easily hook the steam deck up to a monitor, keyboard, & mouse is an important use case for me, and was a big part of why I got the steam deck to begin with.
Waiting for the OLED review now ☕️
Good info to know. Been looking into a steam deck at some point. Also, heck yeah 30XX gameplay let's freakin go.
Lol the apple “just a sticker relax” got me to chuckle out loud.
I bought a cheap dock that works perfectly and I use it exactly same way as you just got it for emulating on a TV/Monitor as I have a gaming PC for when at home. Mine was £30 and I have 0 complaints with it :)
I love the switch but wasn’t sold on the steam deck yet. This dock changes all of that for me. Very cool device.
Dude your ad bits are hilarious
I can drive my 4k 144hz monitor with the Steam Deck in desktop mode via display port. If you have a higher end monitor it absolutely makes a difference.
It's not just power that is a factor when the switch is docked. When the switch is docked they have a much better chance that the exhaust and intake ports for cooling are not blocked. When overclocked the switch can get into dangerous situations and thermal throttle one hand held on a pillow or something
you can actually use usb c converter that has HDMI and usbc (you see them all the time for macs) instead of the official dock. the main thing is you need to be using the offical nintendo power brick
Yup I've done this before
I take mine, a hdmi cable, and a dongle with me wherever I travel. Pc gaming in any hotel room. It's a blast
Hah, bringing it over to a friend and plugging it into the tv sparks a memory , I didn't have my deck back when 4 of us vampires finally decided to meet, ofc we had to play games inside, so we just casually unplugged every goddamn cable from the desktop pc at the house and plugged it to the tv, one of us at the keyboard, rest of us with mixed set of controllers, one xbox 360, one ps3 and one ps4 controller, I installed drivers for the ps3 controller, ps4 controller had connection issues, but we had a ton of fun that day. Next time, I am just bringing my beloved steam deck.
4K is actually lowkey great and I'm glad we have the option. When playing very lightweight games or even emulation, the GPU is rarely a bottleneck and can do 4K 60fps easily. I have been playing some switch games emulated at 4K (30fps) and it's just beautiful, literally better than real hardware (depends on the game tho). The Steam Deck really is a dream little machine. And I love how friendly and pro-community Valve constantly is
This is weird, I got the official Valve docker for Christmas, and most certainly did not come with an extra charger...
I really wish the steam deck had a drop in dock like the switch for ease of use.
That being said it's nice. I paired it with a hub switch to toggle my keyboard and mouse between my PC and steam deck so I don't have to unplug/replug
I've used a program called barrier that set it up so it works like a dual screen setup on the same computer. It does look like it's abandonware and there a pretty big issue on the non-linux versions where it doesn't generale ssl certificates and ssl mode doesn't work. So there's that. Oh, there's a fork, input-leap on github, that's being worked on but there aren't any releases yet.
FYI it looks like the easiest way to generate the certificate is to install git for windows since it includes openssl and then run these in cmd:
cd into 'C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Barrier\SSL\'
run in the cmd openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -subj /CN=Barrier -newkey rsa:4096 -keyout Barrier.pem -out Barrier.pem
It would be nice to be able to make a Steam Deck docking setup with an *external GPU!*
Got the Jsaux 55$ dock and it works great. I finally found a use for the official Steam Deck charger: it now powers the dock. I agree too on the usefulness of a dock but at 55 dollars including shipping it's ok. I find it particularly useful when switching the Deck to desktop mode as a bigger external screen makes a big difference while copying files etc
Including a charger would have been nice if it was a nice slim one but it's a brick, especially the UK one with just afull size UK plug slapped on the bottom.
I find the TV quality from my Steam Deck dock a bit lacking. I can't quite place why, while I find the quality of my games from the Nintendo Switch dock to look better.
Great video! I'm thinking about getting a SD and dock it on my living room TV, so this was quite helpful ;)
High Bandwidth HDMI is it a thing.
I was in retail when rgb left and HDMI came in. I had a wall of Top of the line tv's and a wall of hdmi cables. For about a month I tested cables on the same tv. It did not matter if it was gold plated and cost $90 it did not perform any better the SOP cable.
The Deck replaced my Desktop PC - sold it already. So a Dock was necessary to do Desktop computer stuff with the Deck: Surfing, Office, Scanning and Printing and so on. The Valve dock is the only cheap but reliable Hub with to display outputs for my multi Monitor setup.
I already had a USB Type-C hub that would work just fine, with all of the functionality, except for the DisplayPort, but it was a dongle. I paid $12 on Amazon for the JSAUX cradle, so I had somewhere nice to set it down when I used my normal dock, and it works just fine.
What was the co-op game he was playing @ 16:13?
