    Idk if you realized that by explaining the “simple” stuff, like turning the base board upside down - THAT is the stuff DIY people need. The things you take for granted as known or easy- are the details that matter.
    THANK YOU!! You’re helping me install my crown moulding shoe rack in my closet. I appreciate you.

    Your talent and teaching has brought so many old carpenters that I know personally been cought watching your channel dumbfounded or pissed on your style , approach and the attack on anything I've seen you do thus far in trim and finish work. the knowledge you spread and correctly in my opinion is on the jobsite/ field training that old boys get pissed about .. job security mentality, if you know what i mean. I tell the buggers don't worry he's only been in idaho once so your hack jobs should be fine, so hack it up...
    I just had to tell you that , and that next time your in my neck of the woods with paint dude, announce it loud and proud because I like to buy you a drink or whatnot for excellent videos that made me pull the bags out to go at it again .. mad props . to you and your helper!!!

    I know you probably don't get notifications off 5 year old videos, but I just had to comment. I just picked up a job with 2 piece where they want a skirt as you've showed here. I am showing them my windsor one case and i suggested two skirts and I think either will work. Only difference is they don't have bullnose corners. As much a pain in the backside as bullnose is, it just looks majestic. I had to go back and watch this video again. I'm torn between using my new Bosch green laser or the blocks like you showed. Damn I want to use that laser but working alone I think the blocks will make life easier. So thenks for the content bud. I have a lot of your videos bookmarked because frankly you're a better carpenter than me and I am always happy to learn.

    I use a piece of base to draw the pencil lines for the height of the crown. A lot of installers make the simple mistake of having crown roll to far down or to far up, making copes impossible to match up. Also if you cut a 45 on the bottom of your base or block to draw the pencil line and use the long point on the ceiling away from the inside corners helps a more accurate line for crown. Inside tape corners tend to roll in. Great video

  • @JS-th2ev

    do you measure your inside corners? I mean tried to use 45 and ended up having to make templets of coped right and left pieces. they ranged from 46 -39°. and another question do you still use your laser measure? is it accurate enough for installing crown, (potential fathers day gift for me)

    • @FinishCarpentryTV
      @FinishCarpentryTV  7 років тому +3

      James Serrato if I understand your question, yes I measure the corners with what is called a bullnose sample. yes I do use the laser. very accurate. it can be used for crown, but usually I need to minus 1/16" from the reading.

      I’m not really a brand endorser but I personally use the Bosch GLM 50 CX because it’s small and can shoot a beam while checking the angle / pitch. It also has Bluetooth as does the 100 series, if it matters.
      Chalk lines are always a good idea but caution in knowing why you need the line as you can snap too many lines. I run three lines and each is a different colour. I keep the same colour for X, Y and Z for all my projects so no confusion.

    • @neptunesmoons1
      @neptunesmoons1 6 років тому +1

      willie willaims yeah what do you then? You can ‘t use your little spacers blocks.So what do you do now,and if you start in one area of a room and keep going to an other side and the reveal becomes less or more, what happens then?

    • @Orange_carritvr123
      @Orange_carritvr123 Рік тому

      This is exactly what I was thinking. No ceiling is perfectly level. So what happens when you put the spacers flush with ceiling in an area where the ceiling has bowed down or up? Then that will change the reveal left on the baseboard once the crown is installed.

  • @smartfilmmastersllc3021
    @smartfilmmastersllc3021 6 років тому +3

    I wonder why you did not use a laser for a straight line, seing that the cealing might not be leveled.

    • @marks6663
      @marks6663 5 років тому +7

      because we don't care if the ceiling is level. The crown has to match the ceiling. Otherwise, if the ceiling is off, and your crown is level, the crown will look off.
