The deposed Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto on Wednesday (6/11) demanded that President Farooq Ahmed Leghari step down, two days after he dismissed her and dissolved her government. Leghari dismissed Bhutto's three year old government on Tuesday, accusing it of corruption, lawlessness, and of being implicated in the deaths of thousands of people.

Benazir Bhutto press conference SOT (English) "as the suspended PM of
Pakistan, this is nothing new .. fourth in the last eight years .. Unfortunate that the dream of the Pakistan people of democracy by electing a president was rudely shattered. Power is such as intoxicant that people forget that the masters of their destiny are the people. Mr L. has broken his pledge to the people of Pakistan. His solemn commitment to the people of Pakistan who are the trustees of God. He has no right to do this. He was opposed to it for twenty years. He was elected on a mandate that he would never dismiss the government. He has broken a solemn pledge. We believe that trust is the trust of almighty
Allah. I leave his fate in Allah's hands. I have never had rancour for those who have taken steps against me. He was my number two. He had no vision, he was no strategist but he was a good implementer. When I elevated him, he began to think he had got there on his own when he had not.. So I express my deep disappointment that a man can break his covenant with the people of Pakistan..break his trust with Almighty Allah. All two months before Pakistan celebrates its golden jubilee and four years before we enter the 21st century."
