Survival In The Swamp: Lions Adapt To The Flooded Wilderness Of The Okavango Delta

  • Millions of years ago, the area was a massive freshwater lake, but today the Okavango Delta is a unique system of islands and waterways. Such a remarkable kingdom needs a ruler. Enter the lion. However, the Okavango is so extreme, that making it here has involved them making a dramatic lifestyle twist: during the wet season these lions live a semi-aquatic life that sees them hunting prey as they move from island to island.

    Derek and Berverly Joubert make films about the Okavanga lions. They are 15% larger due to swimming. Their necks and chests are huge.

      Yes there is evidence of about several white lions cases Between 250 to 270kg and from this pantans area at least two cases of 270-273kg..on cautivery history were more bigger 313 and 5 cases of 300kg..All that campagne of Anti lions (tiggers fanboys) made on you tobe about size,weight and strengh had been debunked by the top ten trainners, Hunters and experts. In fact the regular indians tiggers are in the same rang of meassure even under some of Savanah biggest lions. I have the best book of real acounts and quotes of the two last centuries.

    You ultimately have to go where the food is or you will starve. Once they'd been in the water a few times I'm guessing they realised there was nothing to it other than getting a little wet which they probably don't really mind as it also helps keep them cool in the scorching heat.

    This was a five year study?Wondering why it took so long to complete, when surely the only thing they showed which we didn't know before, was how the lions from different prides had learned to share,..which is pretty remarkable, and I had no idea that was possible.

    • @bluecast1430
      @bluecast1430 3 роки тому +4

      I've been on them for YEARS. I am in love w/ Lioness. They show in plain sight. The strength of a Women in the wild. Anywho, Lions WILL actually share w/ outer pride Lioness. It takes a while for them to do so but eventually they will. As for an outer pride male. I've seen that on 2 videos. Thing was, it was a pride of female Lioness sharing w/ brand new nomadic males. They were literally just kicked out of their prides. Guessing the Lioness knew they were no match & their Motherly instincts kicked in. Lioness are unconfrontational anyway. They will not fight unless they're protecting their cubs or pride male.

    • @Vanyali
      @Vanyali 2 роки тому

      wonder why it took so long ? cause they felt the need to meddle in those animals lives first and shoot them with human made drugs, instead of just study from a distance with 4k camera's, first spending tens of thousands of dollars to get a dot on a freaking screen
      what they did wasn't natural and probably changed their opinions of humans in a way, while naturally, the only human they should ever have seen was some wanderer

      When there are many people (scientists) together in a group, with vehicles and a semi-permanent camp constructed, the lions view them as a strong pride(in a sense)
      Many of the lions have been aquatinted to humans for years, some from birth. Due to these variables and others, it is highly unlikely the people will be under threat from the lions (in normal conditions) and less precautions are necessary. The scientists are also very educated and experienced and can observe any behavioral pre-indicators that may lead to aggression, and deploy counter measures to prevent/avoid any potential violence towards themselves.

    • @bluecast1430
      @bluecast1430 3 роки тому +1

      Lions are really no threat in the wet seasons. Do to food being everywhere they turn. The wet season provides them with well over enough food. They only view any & everything as food in the dry seasons. Do to food levels receding so badly. Going to Africa or anywhere (mainly Africa) to view them. They will tell You the best time to view is the wet season.

      Why would you condemn your own species? Our ancestors literarily crawled their way to the top just to ensure our species' survival. Besides animals have been going extinct since time immemorial, its part of nature, maybe humans will be the catalyst to another major extinction which will usher a new species that will dominate our planet.

      @@plokplot8900 So you think it's right for rhinos to be poached into oblivion just because us idiot humans think their horns have magic properties? When else has this happened in history? Please do show me an example of when a species went extinct for similar reasons.

      @@NeidalRuekk uhhh, dinosaurs literally went extinct without humans ever existing in their timeline. Sabertooths, megalodons and a shit ton of other animal species way before humans could have a big impact on the ecosystem. Besides why would you say im okay with poaching, can we not as a human who have brains come up with plans of balancing the health of the environment and our needs? Oh wait we have, that is why we have sanctuaries for animals. Humans are capable of doing good things too. Maybe you forgot that. So dont go preaching that the solution to any environmental crisis is the extinction of humans.

      @@NeidalRuekk I don't know why this is so hard for y'all " all humans are evil uwu" bleeding hearts to understand but the people doing that bullshit are in a very small minority. This self defeating were all doomed mindset isn't helping anyone. Humans are not a hive mind, just because some people don't give a fuck about nature doesn't mean no human on earth does. There are thousands of people working hard every day to make things better. Most people want to see the planet heal and preserve nature if you're that concerned about the state of earth and its animals I suggest volunteering, its much most constructive than sitting at a computer and wallowing in self pity.

    I wish they would leave these lions alone how uncomfortable to live in a collar.but we would feel sorry for them if the lion attack them.its nature, it needs no human interference.
