How One Trailer Doomed a Game

- For Concord, one trailer doomed the game right from the start. Whether it's for Concord or a huge success like Black Myth: Wukong, the reveal trailer for any video game is the most important piece of marketing any game can do.

Concord is a cocktail of all the worst aspects of gaming in 2017 brought into 2024. The ugly art direction, the Joss Whedon writing, the $40 price tag, and the fact that it’s ANOTHER predatory live-service hero-shooter. At a certain point, I can’t even blame the devs because they were being paid to do a job. Sony deserves every piece of criticism thrown at them for this corporate slop.
you can blame at least some of the devs like the one who demanded they be called the professor despite not having a degree
Shame is, gameplay doesn’t look awful. The readability of the different heros is pretty good, it seems to be a half decent engine. There’s a few things that are disagreeable, like the buff system for switching classes. It encourages gameplay of every hero as opposed to having mains. Problem is literally everything else. Looks generic, art style is overdone and the style in general is very derivative of other IPs. It’s exactly like you said, a predatory live service game. Plus every single competitor worth it’s salt is free and has had years to develop in quality.
@@walls_of_skulls6061 that’s one area I won’t criticize because clearly people knew what they were doing. The problem is, that if good gameplay mechanics are wrapped up in an ugly hero-shooter package, I ain’t gonna buy it.. or even play it.
@@jestersraven408 Not going to lie, and this ain’t aimed at you, but I could not give a flying fuck.. I actually didn’t know about it until after the crash/burn. That said, negative engagement never ends well and continuing to double down makes everything worse. Those devs should’ve known better, because you can’t “own the trolls”. It’s a fool’s errand.
@@ChatterboxFM yeah no me neither. However I want to own a physical copy of the game for a collection. It’s such a piece of history now as the biggest commercial failure ever

I see the trailer and I think "Guardians of the Galaxy rip-off. Now, please tell me why I should invest my precious gaming time* into this instead of the actual GOTG game."
"It's a 5v5 hero shooter" is not a good reason.
*seriously, just look at my backlog
i thought it was going to be warface in space..... warface has probably gone to space already....
The argument in the video seems to be they didn't do a good enough job of duping people into buying their pile of garbage. A guardians of the Galaxy rip off sounds spectacular compared to what this actually is.
@@nekad2000 GOTG game is a completely single-player game made by the devs behind Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. Compared this garbage heap to GOTG is an insult.
No Man’s Sky literally revived itself from the shadow realm, because Hello Games never gave up. Firewalk is shutting this game down in a few days 😂
No man's sky wasn't fundamentally flawed. This game is. Everything about it is terrible, except the environmental design. It's rooted in the 2017 era wokeness, and you just can't remove that stink.
I've seen several people compare this to No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk 2077, saying they could turn it around. But the difference is, those games made enough money early on that the developers could afford to fix the problems. There's no fixing Concord, and even there was, there's no reason to think enough people would buy it to make it financially viable. They would have to sell millions of copies of a game that only sold (allegedly) 25,000 copies at launch.

And the continuing failures of these types of movies, TV shows and games proves this.
I lost interest in the game as soon as it said 5v5..

OUTLASTED THE GAME'S SHELF LIFE
Very specific reference. I like it.
The lettuce is eternal.
The promise of an intricate story and lore in a 5v5 class based shooter so wonderfully hilarious given the major reason people stopped caring about Overwatch was they did the exact same thing and never followed through. The player base for these kinds of games was already burned and knew far better than to trust it.
Not to mention when Overwatch did it it was due to the fact that the IP was initially supposed to be a movie or a TV show as far as I remember. Then Blizzard was like "Let's make it a game!"
They had lore, expertly crafted and drawn up characters, in-universe factions, Le Edgy Mister Death Guy, Robot Racism and of course, *Monke*
Years after this came and went out comes Concord with it's nothing-burger character designs, le quirky merc outlaws travelling the galaxy to ????? profit. The designs? Bland. The characters? Stereotypical. The game? Dead on arrival.
I remember when Sony made awesome and violent fps games like Killzone, Resistance, and Socom back then
Killzone was amazing. Sad they let the IP die.
I would kill for another Resistance game!
@@TheRealPeachPit I would start a resistance for another Killzone game.
But a Killzone like Killzone 2
Just give me Titanfall 3.
Resistance was baller. Killzone was fun too.
I'll be honest - my exact thoughts when I saw this trailer were: "Oh. Marvel knock off". And as someone who didn't even like the Marvel movies even when they were new (and I have only grown to despise the oh-look-we're-so-quirky-and-SASSY humour as time as gone by), I checked out almost instantly. When they revealed it was a hero shooter, I mentally threw this game into the "not interested at all" bin.
It's a game released 10 years too late, whose humour, character design and gameplay are perceived as stale. Maybe they had cool plans for how the characters would grow and develop over time. But I'm not buying the game to find out.
That's kinda funny, because thus games production started 10 years ago
You don`t need to, its alredy offline and a normal housefly outlived concord and the "Talentless Freaks" (as one of the Dev`s called us) won by doing nothing besides not playing Concord and playing or doing anything else. Easiest win of our live.

Funny that this game will get an episode made for the Secret level series
Yeah I definitely think they were expecting this game to do a lot better and become a franchise!
I wonder if there will be statistic on which episode will get watched the most for that show.
I imagine the Concorde episode will just be largely ignored and skipped over. I know I am.
Terrible choice 😂
Every other game earned it's place there, but this trash bought it's entry
And that show is published in *December* meaning there's a reasonable chance the game will die by then...
the teaser is inside a spaceship - is the game about space travel?
the trailer is a five minute short story about a team of pirates - does the game continue their story?
neither of these are true.
the game is an overwatch clone
also I had to hear that guy say "it was a spontaneous creative decision made after years of careful research" a hundred times before launch because youtube kept showing me the trailer and it was very grating
Ya, that made no sense. Even the teaser is just a scene inside a spacecraft, and then the game has no spacecraft at all lol. And like, what is the Concord exactly lol? Why is the game called Concord? Is that even relevant? It sure sounds like the name of a spaceship.
@@didibus maybe it's in reference to a campaign that was never completed?
either way, the shutdown of the game feels like a spontaneous desperate decision made after years of hapless research.
"Concord is a 5v5 first person shooter"
This. This right here. This is the one line that murdered the game. It's kiss of death.
Whatever other issues the game might have had, (and it had many) it could have survived them. But releasing a PAID hero shooter or MOBA in a market where all your biggest competitors are free to play is simply a waste of money.
This is a well deserved catastrophic failure and I hope it will lead Sony to do a thorough review of their process of greenlighting projects.
...who am I kidding? They won't learn a thing and will go right back to trend chasing. Expect them to announce Borgir's Door 3 any day now.
When I first saw the trailer during the State of Play, I of course had zero interest in the game from the beginning, as everything about it just screamed "not my thing". However, considering how it was the opening showcase for the premier and how generic and high budget everything was, I just assumed this was one of those games a lot of people were hyped for. I wasn't looking at the live chat, so I just assumed one of three things:
1. Kids asking for GTA 6.
2. Sony fanboys foaming at the mouth and screaming about how "good it looked".
3. Kids just generally being excited for the game, as it looked like the type of games kids are really into these days.
However, never in a million years was I expecting to see people universally dunking on the game. Truth be told, it kinda made me happy. I'm personally sick of seeing these boring, uninspired and generic games that companies like Sony are pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into and people eating it up and calling every AAA game PlayStation releases "masterpieces". I'm not going to list all the games I'm referencing, but if you want to know, then every PS Exclusive after Marvel's Spider-Man 2018 excluding Stellar Blade. But seeing the universal hatred for this game gives me hope that these game companies will stop pushing out this slop and actually make something that has genuine passion and creativity behind it. The public rejection behind these kinds of games has been rapidly growing in the past year and it seems like people have finally had enough.
3. Kids just generally being excited for the game, as it looked like the type of games kids are really into these days. And thats why it was made and bought by Sony. Bc its looks like something kids are into. The developers and investors just wanted to recreate a look without understanding what makes the original ineresting in the first place. Stupid money at work.
that trailer is literally just Robot = groot, asian girl = gamora, green guy = yondu/starlord, big dude = drax.
also about the chracter designs, just look at it on the perspective of "do the concord guys look like they can go toe to toe with valorant agents and overwatch characters?" which, lets be honest here, concord characters look like literal common NPC's compared to valorant and overwatch. its like they purposefully made them lame with the goal of making skins for them later because they are so BORING that players will probably just buy character skins to not get bored just by looking at them
Oh the skins are super lame too
So its not overwatch where the design are great and the skins are mostly great too

Yes,that 5 minutes Story Like trailer, than cut to revealing 5v5 Hero Shooter. The marketing really thought they created hype through introducing generic characters, marvel like jokes, than the audience will be WoW into revealing its all 5v5 fps. I mean come on Sony, it’s an experiment or what. I could’ve simply bought the game if it’s Co-Op Guardians of the Galaxy type story driven game. But it’s not.
Very true!
I dont think for even one second they honestly put any thought into the audience whatsoever.
This was more of a division/demoralisation thing. Peak weimar.
Apparently the original plan for the game was to be like Borderlands. But then, hero shooters started taking off...
When I first saw the CGI i was t thinking maybe 4player co-op borderland game
the market is absolutely ripe for "Borderlands, but without the annoying shit" multiplayer shooter.
My first impressions of Concord were pretty simple: "Oh great, it's another Hero Shooter, can't wait to NOT play this!" Because let's be honest, nobody even really plays these type of games anymore, especially after Overwatch 2 really dropped the ball on the whole genre. And I'll be honest, I don't even really play multiplayer games that much, so I was never going to be interested in these kind of games.
I mean I see people playing valorant on console, though that may be more due to the fact csgo is not on console
Nice joke over watch 2 and valvorant has millions of active players just because you are not interested in a genre doesn't mean it's dead

Idk tf2 fits the hero shooter genre and that game is immortal
The ostrich laugh was funnier than the "joke" itself 😂
If this was a co-op PvE narrative driven game I would’ve checked for it. I’m not playing another hero shooter where the only lore we get from the world is skins and cinematic that are released every now and then. Overwatch has ruined my taste for hero shooters
After seeing someone muck it up. Maybe we need a video about a game succeeding in its marketing. Like an example of a developer/publisher doing it right.
I would like to see you analyse that, I'm sure you can find an example
Great idea! I’ll put that on my list!
Deep Rock Galactic. As soon as someone discovers the basic premise they're interested
Battlefield 2042 is quite bad for a Battlefield game imo but its reveal trailer was awesome.
Likewise Battlefield 1's reveal trailer practically sold the game itself with how good it was.
I personally couldn't ever get into it, but I dig the feel of the game and love dwarf vibes@@kingsadvisor18
I would like that. I feel Wukong actually did a great job. They spread the hype a bit too long, but their original trailers were great, and the game ended up looking just like it. So you really got what they promised.
Having a in depth story driven trailer just to say “hey none of this matters” and it be a hero shooter, a genre that typically has lore less deep than Pong, is an absolutely hilariously stupid marketing strategy.
It was a flop the moment they said it was a 5v5
When I saw it during State of Play I thought it was a single player story game until the very end
Same. The "5v5" line hit me like a truck.

I dont know, chief, judging by the trailer being universally panned, i don't think it landed for anyone
But you are right. As much as people like saying gameplay is king, visuals are how you hook people in whether it be a trailer, a cinematic, or a catchy artstyle. Concord, when it came to providing a hook, really failed on every level (not even getting into the absurdly incompetent character designing)
Overall good video!
Some very good points! And thanks so much for watching!
I’d never heard of this game until the servers were already shutdown. Clearly the marketing was terrible.
Before the guys said '5 PVP', my brain just saw the first bit and thought 'Overwatch clone'
Tbh the game seemed intriguing at first. Cinematic trailer didn’t stick to me, but I genuinely thought it was a open world rpg game because of the trailer. But bro… 5v5 game which would become a fortnite ahh game is depressing.
Ngl when I saw the cinematic trailer I thought it was gonna be a quirky single player action game and I was interested, and then when I found out it was a hero shooter I was very disappointed and immediately lost interest. Imo the main three characters in the trailer even look like the main characters of single player game, and the other playable characters look like NPCs you'd encounter throughout the story or enemies you'd fight, not playable characters in a hero shooter.
Part of me feels like this game was originally going to be a single player game, but had some kind of interference from corporate higher ups and then went through development hell. I'm honestly kinda sad that it turned out like this because I liked the retro scifi aesthetics they were going for and the Joss Whedon writing style didn't bother me as much as it normally does.
I remember watching this trailer, and had the same experience as tons of people in the comments. I was onboard with the game as a Marvel-style silly space adventure romp with familiar archetypes going on misadventures. THEN the "five v five" bit hit, and everyone just felt the air fart out of the balloon instantly. It wasn't Guardians of the Galaxy, it was Overwatch. After that point in the trailer nobody gave a damn. And the fact that our journey to get to that point of not giving a damn had required such an investment of time, earned the game a load of bad will. Concord was 8 years too late to a party everyone had moved on from, and it had wasted our time thinking it was something generic but enjoyable before revealing that it was just more of what nobody was asking for anymore.
The game killed itself. Not the trailer.
apparently a fly lives 4 weeks. Concord lived 14 days.
The trailer was perfectly fine for me. It just gave me the impression it's a Payday: The Heist game in an alien setting.
Most of the character cast saw Cyberpunk 2077 once and made it their entire personality.
The rest were rejected in the Guardians of the Galaxy auditions and had to settle for second best.
Jumped into a bootleg Overwatch and tanked hard.
At first I thought it was a single player open world guardians of the galaxy like game and I was excited. Then the gameplay was shown…
As i remember the whole consensus was that the trailer was bland and derivative but decent. Then it was announced that this is a hero shooter and everyone was like why?
that trailer made me think borderlands not overwatch
And I thought paying $20 for a used Overwatch copy back in 2017-2018 was expensive! Little did I know that WAS the peak hero shooter era.
True overwatch defined an era
This one aged like a fine wine.
they successfully designed the characters around a highly detailed intimate game space.. and then proceeded to throw them into a gameplay environment that has zero room for their subtly and fine details. They managed to run into the old "anime to movie character conversion problem" but backwards.
All the political and culture war issues aside, Concord is basically the Dollar Tree variant of Overwatch. Sure it has most of the same features that you'd expect to find in such a game but it all comes off as a cheaper, lower quality copy. I was gonna say that Concord was to Overwatch as was the Tiger Handheld games where to the original Nintendo Gameboy and Gameboy Color but those still managed to land a hefty profit.
Yakuza Kiwami 2's launch trailer is top 3 for me
Always dance on the grave of a backfired corporate project
Ngl you’re goated for using the Timesplitters 2 theme
To be honest, I did like the cinematic trailer, if Concord was a Mass Effect type of game I would buy it, but being a Hero Shooter made everyone look at the game with another perspective, this genre is saturated.
Space Marine 2 looks like it’s gonna be a banger
I dissagre, people say "okk a copy of Guardians of the galaxy" and then the ending be like " oh wait is a hero shooter absolute trash" because the cinematic didnt represent the actual game if it was a SOLO STORY MODE game but no, is online is overwatch LMAO
they shot themselves in the foot with that trailer believe me, and the other half of the public didnt remember what the game was ABOUT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT SHOW NOTHING in the same cinematic xD
So, their problem is they didn't dupe people into buying the game well enough?
If you liked Concord, seek medical assistance immediately
I thought this game was gunna be a Borderlands style game possibly with the difference of being able to choose who you play as mid playthrough. I was thoroughly disappointed when I heard that it was a team based shooter. This is kind of what turned me off of Overwatch. Overwatch has this rich and detailed world but the only way we can engage with it in game is via a competitive team shooter.
I remember thinking it was a bad hiest game it really didnt give the imperession it was supposed to be a hero shooter
I made video game trailers for 9 years. Worked on countless titles. We often called the process "polishing sh*t." If your game sucks, it's not as easy as it used to be to fool perspective buyers with flashy trailers, so mediocre or poor trailers are a red flag the size of a ship sail.
WE DONT WANT more FORTNIGHT knockoff crap!!!!! GOD the game industry is as stupid as Hollywood!
Its a shame because the character deaign in the concept art and early development. Was way much better than what people got.
And the fact that its biggest competitiors right now are F2P. Yeah... It wasnt going to live.
The trailer made me think of something more like Mass Effect or maybe a squad based tactical RPG game.
I remember the first trailer of overwatch. The first trailer of overwatch was 6 minutes, 2 minutes more than concord, but they show two teams, Wiston and Tracer vs Reaper and Windowmaker fighting each other so you could say it was a competitive and it all was about combat.
Here it look like it was a rpg? There is a team, everybody was special and they are space criminals or an action shooter PVE.
Their key and simple mistake was thinking this game was a good idea.
The trailer didn't ruin the game, it was one of the reasons people had low expectations, but even if the trailer was a masterpiece it still would have flopped
I lose interest in a game the moment I hear the words: Online Only, Live Service, Looter Shooter, or Microtransactions.
Theres common trope that company's do where they give free stuff in things like Fortnight, Fifa or whatever game the company has access to that is popular.
So you have like a 40/99% chance of a free skin or fifabucks ect ect where as kids dont have access to a job but they have free time this means this is the only way to get skins in there fav games. Which as we all know most have been live service games, most of which feel like a full time job. So gamers don't have time to start a new game when all there friends are on games they already own.
These reward viewers drive up the views of these reveal trailers from people who honestly don't care, meaning crappy trailers get fake views which really doesn't help this situation. It takes a really special trailer to push though that. Your correct in Concords sucking but that isn't the full story.
The AAA market of release a game fix it later, so people know most great trailers will launch as a piece of crap. Even studios i personally used to trust have burnt me within the last 5 years.
I think i speak from most gamers i will never preorder, i will never trust mainstream reviews (ign) and if a game looks like it could be made by ubisoft or blizzard ill wait a year and buy it for 5$ when its a feature complete game that works.
Its not just a trailer dooming the game its the market of AAA games basically being unbelievably predatory, battlefront 2 was the last time people cared enough to complain now people are apathetic, knowing its not worth the fight and just dont buy sticking to what they trust.
My prediction is we are gonna see more blow up games than predictable games Rockstar and nintendo have kept there quality so people have brand trust. But theres a reason why i can list
Lethal company
Palworld
Helldivers 2
stellar blade
wukong
Mannorlord
ready or not
These games didn't have much marketing they were just a good product, unlike most AAA games.
If your game is good and has a MARKET people will buy it. If Concord was good it could have been the next Overwatch the only downside i dont think many people are ready to risk getting hyp for an heroshooter.
As personally as soon as i hear heroshooter i dip as frankly Overwatch killed my love of the genre. The words hero shooter reminds of Overwatch 2 and the extremely negative emotions from that betrayal and everything that Overwatch 2 launch represented in regards to above.
So is there even a market for a pvp hero shooter at this point in time? As if Overwatch treats there fans like that what will Concord do?
helldivers 2 tho is kinda in a not so great position rn, to put things rather lightly
TBH when I first saw the trailer, I was expecting the game to be an open world/uncharted esque game, as Sony love their cinematic titles. So when they turned around and said it's an Overwatch knock-off, I noped out. This sort of game needs a more "Meet the..." shorts like Team Fortress 2 did to introduce these characters and what they can do.
But if you want to do a video o n one of the most cat fishing game trailers of all time, you must take a look at the original Dead Island.
I do appreciate Sony trying something different than the standard 3rd person cinematic adventure, but this was definitely not it.
Funny that you mention that as the latest video I uploaded is actually about the Dead Island Reveal Trailer!
They actually just shut down the game, offering every poor soul who spent money a refund.
The saying the "First impressions are important" is a fricking basic thing everyone in sales & marketing know. If you can't even get that basic thing right, then people will start to immediately question your capability
The only turn down for me was terrible fat acceptance they showed in their woke af character design trailer.
I just wanted to give some examples of games I'd never heard of from devs I'd never heard of that made me buy their game on the spot, or on day 1 of release, because of a trailer or gameplay reveal.

Very true! Passion always shows through. And awesome list! I'll definitely check them out!
I didn’t even know that concord was a game. Then it was canceled.
1: Nobody thinks CGI trailers actually represent the game
2: It came across as budget Guardians of the Galaxy
Pvp games take 2 days to make. Concord took years. YEARS. For maps weapons and cosmetics…..
Time told. If you're one of the literally DOZENS of people who liked Concord, that's apparently NOT okay, because the game was yanked and you got refunded anyway. For the rest of the world, sit back and laugh.
Who wants to play as the thing that holds the toy in a kinder surprise egg
Live service games, such as hero shooters, are also a very hard sell. It's not because nobody wants them. It's because live service games are designed with longevity in mind, which is a double edged sword. You have to provide an incentive for people to leave their favorite live service game they've invested thousands of hours in, and which has become full of content, maps, expansions, etc., to go to a new, content poor, likely feature incomplete, game, as well as bring all their friends. That's often very difficult, and is why a lot of live service games, like Anthem, Redfall, etc., have failed hard. And the trailer doesn't tell you it's a live service hero shooter. It could very well have been an adventure or RPG, or squad based shooter. Basically the trailer was trying to go for the wrong audience, the single player story based adventure crowd, and it didn't look like it was going to be a great story.
The trailer likely cost more to make than the game earnt, before the refunds obviously..
I can't believe people were paid to make something as stupid as Concord marketing.
I can't believe people thought making this was gonna make them money lmao. Highly doubt any of the 'talentless freaks' who worked on this game will ever find a job in development again.
Love all these people trying to beat around the bush on the real reason people didn't want to play the game. It's the damn character designs man. It's a hero shooter with heroes nobody wants to become. The sex appeal being absolute zero killed this game.
Having never heard of this game outside of the ads I get in youtube, I was actually getting pretty excited about this game based off your descriptions of the first reveal trailer.... and then you said it was a lobby 1person shooter... Oh. Yeah that's a bad first look

This game had a very pro-consumer monetization strategy with no psychological manipulation, didn't even price itself as a full game, had a pretty diverse roster with the rare phenomenon of a playable trans character in a video game, and had a unique aesthetic that harkened back to low budget pre-millennium sci fi TV shows.
The gaming landscape would have been way better off if Concord had succeeded, but it was at the worst place at the worst time. Gaming companies will take the wrong lesson from this and push predatory monetization behaviors even more, and a large swath of bigoted gamers are already celebrating its downfall and blaming it on the game's gender inclusivity.
This take reminds me of how the marketing for the Disney Starcruiser went and...oof that had some major issues, but right out of the gate the marketing was bad, they got a C-list teenage actor, and his behavior throughout the spot made it seemed like they had him down an entire case of red bull...and the drought of marketing afterward made it feel like it got canceled cold turkey cause it would have been MORE of the same.
I think actual gameplay matters much more then a trailer , a bad game won’t do well with a good trailer and a good game will still do well with a bad trailer
I admit, I saw the trailer and though Mass Effect, with story heavy, character focused single-player adventure. I also figured that since it wasn't GOTG, it had the freedom to kill off or replace disliked characters throughout the game and have heavier/darker tones. I want that game.
Even with a hyp trailer this game would still be doomed.
Glitter sprinkles on dog shit is still dog shit.
0:24 that is one hell of a tagline.
Your opening statement that a teaser should be bleak compared to the first trailer is what I feel is wrong with Avowed
Trailer schmailer. It was an Overwatch clone
Lmao the dustborn clip 1:25 burn
I actually liked the cinematic trailer; as mentioned the big problem is that it has nothing to do with the game.
Noone wanted this type of game, nothing would have saved it. The best trailer in the universe wouldn't have done a thing.
I just watched the trailer, it felt like it is like a game thats used in a scene for a movie or series, like the stereotype of what a game is imagined by someone who doesnt plays any game
Overwatch had an over 5 minutes completely cinematic release trailer for its team based shooter. I don't think these things are inherently flaws but maybe point to yet another thing they tried to copy. It's just been done to death.
"if you like concord, that's fine" that aged poorly
I didn't watch the reveal trailer. I just looked at the charactee designs. Ma'amster Chief, the Thermosnator, Fem Fat, Theylf, Aging Lesbian Blade, and more all made me laugh at the ridiculousness of their appearance, and say "not even if I was paid". Because, like, half the fun of these games is the cosmetics, right? And there is just no joy there. You make a shrek, laugh at it for 15 seconds, then you don't bother playing because christ, what's the point? You're not getting anything that makes these people look _good,_ and making shreks is only fun for so long before you want something that actually looks _good._
Like, genuinely, the only character design I liked was astronaut lady, and that's only because they gave her a vaguely feminine profile and they couldn't ruing her face by making her a 45 year old former twink.
What it signals, alone with the success of Wukong, is that Fortnight style PvP looters are oversaturated and the Market is zero for new ones right now. Gamers want something different, its a done to death premise, and it's not a ticket to print money anymore. People want substance and story. Time to add it to these games.
They really wanted to create guardians of the galaxy with the humor and types of characters
Yup, it was just this *ONE THING* that doomed Concord --- not the cringe-inducing characters, not the notoriously glutted market for hero shooters, not the high price tag, not the over polished Nintendo 64-era graphics, not the ponderously slow movement of the characters, not the dismal gameplay, not the dismal _reviews_ of it's gameplay, and not the ideological narratives it pushed.
If you believe that it was just the trailer that doomed Concord, then you are truly clueless.
Remember that Concord tag in Steam was LGВТАIQ+ (which was so detestable that made Valve ban the tag as million of players immediately blocked the tag) and the game had an aspect to privilege adipophilia and afrocentrism. People don't want this type of thing.
The fuck is *ADIPOPHILIA AND AFROCENTRISM* ?!?!?!
Imagine your game being so generic and lazily made that the only unique thing about it is the gay boy tag on Steam. 😂
People rolling their eyes as it revealed 5vs5
Sounds like they pulled what those mobile games ads pull on facebook, where they show a clip of the supposed 'gameplay' but then the game plays nothing of the sort.
