Actually it was CRAPPY ride because Prat tried not once but TWICE to get through on the rail in the first quarter mile and he had to check the horse. I would rather see Mike Smith on Flightline because he doesn't make those sort of stupid moves...
Hopefully we see him in the BC Classic in the fall. Probably the Pacific Classic or Whitney next. His pedigree suggests 1 1/4 mile should be no problem.

Horses decades ago used to run multiple races a month and still destroy opponants. Man o War ran 21 times and lost once, and is considered one of the best horses of all time. Horses nowadays are bred for speed not durability.

You need to keep your superstars around for a while to bring the masses in, but there's more incentive to not risk the health and perfect record and start getting those giant stud fees.

It's not that their bodies run out of races. Not when they are retired after 12 races ....give or take. Look at the "average" horses---they have20, 30, 40, 50 races and race til age 6 or 7. Horses used to be bred to race. Now they are raced to be bred. Digest that for a minute. It's sad. As soon as an owner realizes he has a great racehorse, they retire them. Folks say "Well you can't blame them". I can. So why are you retiring them? To make more money than you can racing. I get that. LOL. But they retire them to do what? Produce more "race" horses. But, horses aren't really raced anymore. Not the good ones. So fans (the ones that provide 100% of the money to fund breeding and racing), are left to get to only watch average horses race. (Remember, the great one are retired as soon as they are deemed "great"). Its a crappy situation. I wish it could be like the 70s and 80s. Justify was retired after like 6 races. LOL. Whats next? A horses 1st 3 races are the TC series, and if he does great, he's retired after 3 races? I have a lot of respect for California Chrome's and American Pharoah's owners. I wouldn’t call Keeneland a deep track.
Flightline is a tour de force, but I think Life Is Good is also a tour de force at a mile, that would be a serious showdown at the mile distance.
