  • Every golf swing has a pattern! Have the wrong pattern and you'll forever be frustrated but have the right pattern and you'll have a consistent, repeatable and effortless golf swing.
    Often I see amateur golfers fall into a shallow to steep pattern. This causes you to swing over the top, slice the ball, have poor contacts and overall be very inconsistent.
    However, if we look at tour pros and the best players in the world, the majority will have a steep to shallow pattern. This is a much more efficient way of swinging the golf club around your body.
    In today's video, I will show you the physics behind why a steep to shallow pattern is very efficient. After that, I will then run through some simple and easy to implement drills that will help you learn this pattern fast.
    This is a must watch video for any golfer who is serious about improving their game. Check out this video and like always let me know what other golf coaching videos you would like to see from myself!

    When I loose my swing the finger pointing drill is my go to.

    That’s exactly what I’m doing wrong. I’m 6’4 and I think that’s playing into it.

    wouldn't it be easier and more efficient to have the same path both in the back and forward swing, as long as the path was at a productive angle?

      Close to impossible to do that. Try it but you’ll hate the results. We are humans not robots

      How would you do this, whilst moving your low point forward at the same time? Impossible

    Excellent video Giles on discussing the "steep to shallow" pattern in ones golf swing! I like both your finger drill and extended alignment rod drill to emphasize this movement! I also pay close attention to my right elbow coming into my right side as I make my shallow move! Well Done Giles!

      Glad you agree! It’s such a key move & feels like that can help massively

    For me the real challenge is how to achieve face control when moving to this better pattern. When committing to this movement I have a slew of different contact issues and there is little progress.

      Would put money on the fact you’re not using your forearm correctly and as a byproduct, your wrist will be moving incorrectly

    Hello Giles would you show the difference using this video technique comparing the swing for the irons vs the driver/wood? I assume the take away is somewhat flatter?

    • @Gilesgillgolf
      @Gilesgillgolf  4 місяці тому

      It’s pretty much the same relative to the ball as we are going to be further away with a driver than we are an iron so that will naturally change the steepness of the shaft

    I actually do go steep to shallow, however 2 things I have...im laid off slightly at the top with my trail elbow behind me and I'd say although shallower than the takeaway I get slightly steep on the last quarter on the downswing...any thoughts?

    • @Gilesgillgolf
      @Gilesgillgolf  4 місяці тому

      You don’t have enough width if your arm is behind you. Once it’s behind you it’s pretty hard to make it up

  • @richardjackson9725

    I go back shallow but then also come back on the same plan. Looks very flat when video

    Very good drills, Giles, most appreciated. I have a question. I've been looking at this via Ben Hogan's 5 rules for golf. He shallows his backswing, but by focusing on his trail elbow and relative body positions comes through on a shallow plane. I know he was a great player, so assuming his approach is quite rare. I'm sure I swing as you are advising, but see merit in the shallow swing back and through. So before I start tinkering I thought I'd ask your opinion, as I think I need to try your drills to actually check what I'm doing currently. Thanks again for great visuals. Most appreciated 👏

      @Gilesgillgolf  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes I think we have to understand that hogan was amazing but a lot of people can’t swing like him. We are all built different but as a general rule a steeper to shallow backswing is better for efficiency

    I've been playing around with this feel recently, and I'm struggling with push cuts although contact/strike feels a lot better, any advice mate?
    Great vids bud!

    • @Gilesgillgolf
      @Gilesgillgolf  4 місяці тому +2

      Assuming a middle strike a push cut means the face is pointing right of target but the path is going left of where face is pointing. You need to figure out from video whether it’s a case of your path being far too far to the left or is simply that you’re not releasing the face closed enough

    Great video I’m one of the millions that fight this pattern lol. You mentioned it but a key feel for me is the weight of the club feels heavy if I’m ripping it inside and weightless at the top if I’m doing it right. I really like that finger drill gonna try it out
