- I know Gater is a broken Program Advance in Mega Man Battle Network 2, but I refuse to abuse this silliness in a more serious video (if I feel like doing one). Kinda just takes the fun away from coming up with an elaborate strategy. I mean, poor Air Man couldn't even flinch onto another panel. Mans died in 6 milliseconds outside of time freeze. Even my quick kill victims in the Zero series last longer than that in their in-game clock, LOL.
So, if y'all ask me "y u no use Gater" in future videos, there's your answer. I'm just using it right now to speed up my V3 Navi grind to open up the WWW Area 3 gate. And on my way to another navi, Air Man showed up again to this... surprise to his face, haha.
Also, for the algorithm's sake, the footage is from the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.
Gateman gatekeeps the difficulty of the game.
Or Bass and Gospel with the godly Darkness P.A doing 3000 damage….each hit 😳

This game is basically “press A and win” once you manage to get 5 wind/5 fan/5 Gateman like halfway through the game 😂

I'm one of those people who will avoid having this combo in my "deck" because it takes the fun away lol
I did that to beat the game for the first time. I have no regrets.

@@sebastianchavez1225 Now hold on a minute. If you are trying to complete the game 100% by getting all the chips there is nothing wrong with overusing this. What you should do is decide to use it AFTER you have defeated the story without it.

I have only ever played the first game. looking at this, I can't even begin to comprehend what I've just seen, but it sure made me want to actually continue this series.
Just stop at 3 or at least skip 4. Pretend 4 doesn't exist.

@@neonjm8289 As someone who has experienced _BN4_ only via watching someone else (RoahmMythril) suffer through it, yes, that game is gods awful in basically *every* respect. Its plot(s) sucks. Its gameplay sucks. It was obviously rushed to hell and back. And IIRC you have to play through *thrice* just to 100% it. Avoid it unless you're either a masochist or *super* desperate to see (a form of) Duo from _MM8_ again. Just pretend Regal debuts in _BN5_ because I sure as hell thought he did.
@@neonjm8289 4 has pretty good gameplay but the plot really sucks. Basically 90% of the game is a filler tournament arc which is mostly irrelevant to the major crisis that actually forms the climax of the story. And yes, you gotta play it three times because they randomize the tournament scenarios you go through, and you will never see all of them in a single play-through. And a lot of higher-level content (like stronger chips/viruses) are also locked behind doing multiple play-throughs.
I say give it a try but set your expectations kinda low. It does have a hilariously-bad english translation compared to the other games, so that’s occasionally worth a laugh.
5 and 6 are way better than 4, if its any consolation. Though I personally still consider 3 to be the single best game in the series. And 2 is a nice step up in quality from 1, so I think continuing the series is definitely a good idea 😁

Fun Fact about MMBN2: The game will actively try to give you PAs. so if you put 5 Gateman, 5 Wind * and 5 Fan * in your folder its very likely you get a Gater every draw, this of course was nerfed into oblivion from MMBN3 and forward. Also MMBN2 is notorious for having the strongest PAs in the series (Darkness, Bodyguard and Gater), on top of that 5 Full Custom * completely breaks the game thanks to Gospel Bug.

@@slayers4life81 if you buy something, beat the boss, and continue, you keep the items you bought and the money/frags you spent. so dont buy out useful shop chips like PA chips, the blades come to mind.
@@slayers4life81 a notorious bug in MMBN2, essentially lets you get dupe Blue Mystery Data and limited store items but it requires you to have beaten the Main Story.
I always wondered about this, because even when I played this as a kid with a folder full of Guts Shoot and Life Swords I noticed I would almost always draw one of my PAs first turn or need one chip which I'd get they next turn.
Was this fixed in the legacy collection?

By using the gospel duping glitch, you can fill your folder with 5 copies of this PA, then you can also throw in 5 attack +30 chips, THEN you can throw in 5 fullcust * chips and then have 5 slots for whatever you want.
And yet it’s only the SECOND most broken PA in the game.
Airman isn't even the only v3 boss it one-shots.

I have to actively resist making a Gater-centric folder whenever I play BN2. Making one is so simple and makes the entire game brain-dead easy.

I'm an MMBN fan, but I've only ever played 5 and 6, so seeing exactly just how broken the earlier games are is pretty hilarious
I'll also be waiting patiently for when you start figuring out those insane combos in 6, like the ones that have been figured out so far are so unbelievably creative
The post-game was starting to take too long so I went with this:
Area Grab x2
Geddon 2
Snakeman V3
Navi + 40 x2
Wood + 40 x2
It just kills everything
BN3 got an even more broken combo: Grass stage (which can be a Navicust thing too) Black Bomb 3 + Anything fire (anfd if you're of any Heat style, you're set!) Guaranteed 600 damage on the entire field, double if the enemy is also grass.

Just a small example on how to improve this, use Magnum 3 lined up with the BlackBomb3 and the opponent. Hidden mechanic, the damage will scale the magnum+blackbomb together when used this way.
Exactly why I build a folder full of Gater. They never stood a chance.
Bodyguard is insane, but at least it's only accessible really late.

Gater is one of those Program Advances that the devs made powerful because they figured no one would ever actually use it - how would you /ever/ think to use Wind/Fan/GateMan in that particular order? It's the sort of thing I bet they expected to become a playground legend as the first kids to activate it entirely on accident would forget what chips they even used for it.
Of course, the genie's out of the bottle now.
That wouldn't work. Battle Network 2 was the first game in the series that started logging program advances. So, even if they did it the first time by accident, they can always go back to the library to see how to do it again.

I just finished up BN1 and I'm going to be starting 2 later today in pursuit of regaining HubStyle. I remember there were a couple bosses that gave me trouble back then (Freezeman and Magnetman spring to mind) but Airman certainly wasn't one of them 🤣

Also there are far more restrictions to the chips you can put in your folder in those games, so getting the combo you need when you need it is gonna need some RNG
