On "My Car Story" we're in Geneva IL at The Geneva Concours d’Elegance on 8-26-18.
We're looking at a collection of Chrysler 300 “ Letter Cars “ together from the original in 1955 through 1964 K (and here is a link to the 1965 “L” that could not make it today due to illness • 1965 Chrysler 300 L Co... ).
Our Host Noel Hastalis was for asked for this car show to organize all the Chrysler 300 “Letter Cars” from the original 1955 through 1964 K and he has all of them here except for the 1965 “L” due to illness (see link above).
Congratulations Noel on a job well done to share all of these amazing cars side by side to see the differences first hand in one location!
ENJOY!
Thank you, Noel, for explaining all the different appointments of these wonderful 300s.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy Noel's explanation of these cars :-) Lou
For my money the 1960 300F has never been exceeded. A work of art that did 140MPH.
Hi Bruce, High praise for the 300F. Here is one I think you'll enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/NKqcmW9hy3E/v-deo.html
Yes the 1960 300-F is my favorite 300.
Fabulous looking cars. Can’t think of cars built today that take your breath away like these. Good job Lou!

My father was a big Chrysler lover. He never bought a 300 but purchased a new New Yorker almost every year, in the years without a New Yorker he purchased a imperial. He had a 1965 baby blue Imperial that was a head turned. I took a young lady to our 65 prom in that massive Chrysler.
Hi David, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers 65 Imperial :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Just a trivia note for Hemi owners. It was created around 1944 as an Air Plane engine for the USAF to drive the propellers in a P-47 , there was also a 36 Liter (2220 Cu in ) V16 Hemi Plane engine.
The war ended before any Plane was out in use since the P-47 Hemi was replace with the new Jet powered plane. Once Chrysler focused on a passenger car version in the late 1940's.... they produced the 331 Fire Power hemi in 1951 that saw interest grow in a high horse power engine.
Bob Roger wanted Chrysler to have a full size Sports car so the engineers built the 300 that was introduced in February of 1955 . The 300 was to denote the HP which shocked people since 200 hp in a passenger car was amazing back then.
The hemi was amazing for how it had Overhead valves when FORD was still using the Flathead up to 1954 and in Germany for trucks up to 1974.
The accountants at Chrysler saw the Hemi as a loss to produce , so it died in 1958 where only a few 1959 Imperial Crown's had the left over 392 Hemi's in them . The 392 hemi came back about 1964 and was now the 426 but had issue to qualify for NASCAR as a stock engine in a Production car ...so Chrysler put the 426 in their full size cars in 1966 and sold 762 in the Coronet , Belvedere , Satellite and Chargers .
If it wasn't for the taxpayers funding the War effort to develope the Hemi in 1944 , i doubt it would have come about from any of her Big-3 just from the R&D price tag .
Gary, Thank you for viewing, sharing your knowledge, and adding to the story, Lou
Gary ,you are absolutely spot on..right up too and including the fact that some 59s received 392s.. although I challenge you to find one...
Thanks Lou for taking us through these amazing and beautiful cars. I enjoyed it!
Hi Gary, Happy to read you enjoyed it :-) Lou
Wow, love seeing all the original 300s together
NICE!
Exner excellence! Love the mighty futuristic 1955-1965 Chrysler 300 Letter series cars!
Happy to read you "Love the mighty futuristic 1955-1965 Chrysler 300 Letter series" cars :-)
Beautiful parade of 300s, my favorite is still the F, but the A and B looks great.
Hi Fabio, My pleasure sharing these cars with you, Lou
Very nice. Trip down memory lane for me. Dad had a 1958 300D and traded it in on a 1960 300F. I was 16 and 18 at the time so I thought my dad was pretty "cool". Many good memories of these cars. Thanks Lou.
Hi 2098elk, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads cars :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Wow is correct. So many things that I didn't know about these letter cars. And I was driving in 55. Lou, you do a great job of selection, but this one might have needed a tad more time.
Agreed, he does a fantastic job.
Chrysler also had conceptualized a '66 300-M, but Corporate nixed it. By that time the intermediates - Coronets, Satellites, Chevelles, Fairlanes, etc. had assumed the role of performance leaders, and the 'Beautiful Brutes' or 'Bankers' Hot Rods' (as they're often referred to) rolled off into history. With such modest production/sales numbers - total 16,856 - over their 11 year run - Chrysler had no interest in investing in these.
Personally I was always a lot more attracted to front ends of the Desoto versions of these Chrysler 300 letter cars. Very Awesome to see the whole 300 clubs letter cars out in force together and lined up by years...8)
Hi Old Town, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you on this video :-) Lou
i guess I'm pretty randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to watch new movies online ?
I love this era of Mopar. My first car was a 1964 Dodge 880 that was purchased when I began driving in 1984. Lol. Thank-you for sharing.

Wow,just wow, never in 1 place have I seen so many classic letter cars.the early ones w/ those Kelsey hayes looking wheels are to die for.the convertibles w/ the front buckets that rotate for easy entry...I'll take the platinum - creme color 55!
HI Richard, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Glad you'll take the creme one, Lou
Old Chrysler overload! I could spend all day looking at these cars. I'll bet these are very complicated to restore. Another great video!
Hi Brad Conklin, Thank you for sharing "Old Chrysler overload!" :-) That made me laugh :-) Appreciate the kind words on the video, it's appreciated, Lou
Brad Conklin restoring any Mopar is truly a labor of love because of mopar electrics and the dreaded tin worm
Don't get me wrong though I love them dearly if cars were women Mopars are the sexy stripper that steals your money and breaks your heart other makes the ones you settle down with and have kids....
Yes - Complicated to restore and many parts - especially trim parts - are very scarce. Over their 11-year production run - 1955 thru 1965 - only 16,856 Letter Cars rolled off the assembly line. With so many unique trim parts for many of the years, and with almost none of the old boneyards having parts cars to support these restorations, it's gotten near impossible to save and restore many of these. That said, the Swedes are beautifully reproducing some parts, like the windshield, dash pad and brushed aluminum door trim that I've replaced on my 300-F.
Another jackpot Lou, can’t stop watching!!
Hi Paul, Happy to read you're enjoying the Channel :-) Make sure you watch the commercials before the video in full (or the ones you can) as that is how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you, Lou
The 1960 300 F convertible with the tan/saddle top is "To die for" The most beautiful Chrysler in my opinion.
Hi Tyrone, Thank you for sharing which one you enjoy :-) Lou
Beautiful Beauuuutiful Cars!❤️
Hi James, Happy to read you enjoy this episode of the 300's :-) Lou
I was just in an AZ junk yard in November that had 2 300Ls for sale. 90% of those 2 cars were all there, but a stiff price at $5500 each. All the drivetrain, steering/suspension parts, body panels ( straight believe it or not!) excellent glass, good chrome etc were there. Interiors were all there but seats were trashed. The owner also had several 63 and 64 300 Sports for sale including 1 hardtop sedan w the optional factory 413 HO, complete, for 3500. That 1 was really nice inside and out. Mouse damage underhood from sitting in a horse barn. I love 300s!
Adam Trombino Friend, these cars a sky rocketing in price. I believe for 5500 you are getting a pretty fair deal. You should reconsider!
Hi Adam Trombino, Thank you for viewing & sharing details of your time @ the AZ junk yard. Lou
Always great to see a Chrysler 300. So cool to see them together Lou!!
My pleasure to share with you tigerbyte0 :-)
So many letter cars in one place. Drool. Thanks Lou
You're welcome :-)
Fabulous fabulous Lou. Brilliant heritage for me as the proud owner of a 2008 300C SRT 8 425 HP. And a long history of Chrysler wheels. Just bliss to these marques together. Who says there is no Heaven.
Hi Simon, Jesus speaking to the Disciples in John 14 verse 2 shares "“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" I'm looking forward to seeing the garage! :-) Lou

300 B from 1955 is my first choice. Nice front, similar to Volvo Amazon. Thank You Lou.
Happy to read you enjoy the 300 B :-) You're welcome Lennart.
My father had a 64 New Yorker (similar to the “K” cars”) which was a.dependable nice ridding car. The achillies heel of these cars were their electronic starters....the cars would eat them for lunch! Finally, people are waking up and beginning to appreciate these Chrysler’s. Prices are starting to rise!

Hi ImTheDaveman, High praise for this video. Fins are FUN :-) Lou
This is quite a magical and nostalgic tour of a long line of legends! It's a shame we didn't get to see the 300L in the metal, but you and Noel did an excellent job of covering the historic details of each one. To give everybody some FYI, the run of "letter series" 300s was brought to an end in 1965 apparently because some thought they had departed too far away from the original concept, plus by then the emphasis in the performance market was shifting more toward intermediates and away from big cars. There was no 300I because Chrysler figured people would likely mistake the letter I for the number 1. Also the "regular", or "non-letter", 300 series debuted in 1962 (replacing the Windsor), giving buyers all the style and prestige of the letter series for a lot less money, plus the additional choice of a four-door hardtop as well as a two-door hardtop and convertible, although they did have to sacrifice a bit of performance. A '63 300 convertible was chosen as the pace car for that year's Indy 500. The "regular" 300 series continued until 1971, with the last convertible built in 1970. There was a brief 300 revival in 1979 as an option package on the Cordoba. Eventually, there was a 300M, although that didn't arrive until 1999, 34 years after the L. The current 300 has been around since 2005, but I wonder what's going to become of it given how the market for sedans, especially large sedans like this, is now in decline.
I give 300 thanks to you and Noel for this fabulous presentation of these stellar muscular Mopars!
Here is that 300L for you :-) Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/A1lJK-xWJsQ/v-deo.html
These Chrysler Letter cars really are spectacular. I can only imagine how excited Chrysler employees would have been to be part of this era. I have found designs that stand the test of time were obviously exquisite right from day 1. The 1950’s and early 1960’s must have really been jaw dropping in Hollywood, for example. The stars could afford so many different, but all gorgeous, makes and models. Makes a person wish they could be a time traveller just to go back for the car spotting.
Hi Orwellknew911, Thanks for viewing and sharing. Good news! Regarding time travel, many of those cars you enjoy from that time period can be found right here on this UA-cam Channel, Lou

The '55 300s and early '56 300Bs had the 2-speed PowerFlite automatic; as the man mentioned, the late '56 300Bs had the 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge :-)
Fantastic video Lou, as always....
As I mentioned before, one of my very best friends, back in the old country, Sweden, owns a '57 300C in Copper Brown, I think that he mentioned that only 18 were painted in that colour, only three of them are left and all of them is in Sweden....
....and it hauls some serious ass, when he puts the pedal to the metal, or how the old saying goes....
His '57 Chrysler New Yorker was having some minor repairs done when I was back home this summer, the turn signal was stuck in right turn....
Both Hemis sounded phenomenonal, the New Yorker sounded more....relaxed, compared to the 300 which sounded more like it was begging to be let lose....ready to annihilate those miles of road!
Hope that all is well at your end!
Hi Duececoupe, Wonderful memories, and glad you shared :-) Thank you for the kind words on the video. Feeling well, and looking forward to videoing more car to share with you. Hope you're well, Lou

Great video Lou! Though I would like to point out that at 16:55, the guy mentioned that '56' was the first year for the pushbutton transmission, whereas the '55's had a "shift lever" control for the transmission, without specifying where it was mounted. Those were dash mounted shift levers on the '55's, not steering column mounted shift levers.
Hi Marshall Curtis, Glad you enjoy the video, and thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Marshall, you're absolutely correct. The lever was in the dash, to the right of the steering wheel. I guess I didn't make it clear in my commentary! I've always loved the '55s, from when my folks brought their new '55 Windsor home when I was 6 years old. The design of that delicate PowerFlite shift lever was very 'Forward Look' and I was sorry to see it gone in '56, in favor of the pushbuttons..
I loved the Chrysler 300 series@
Hi Andy, Happy to read you "loved" these cars :-) Lou

I've got a book on the history of performance Mopars that features some of these cars. Under the picture of the dash layout of one particular car, the caption says, "Nobody did gadgetry better than Chrysler."😄
Hi Red 13, Sounds like a great book :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
I remember when I was a teenager my cousin dad had this old camper they used for a shed but I never forgot it cause on the side it said 413 high performance pretty sure it had a 4 barrel nothing crazy no tunnel ram or nothing
Hi Wayne Printup, Glad this video brought back teenage memories for you :-) Lou
Lou, thanks for letting us be a part of that historic gathering. I'm drooling. LOL is that gathering of 300s going to be an annual event at the Concours, or was it a 1-shot-deal? I would drive 900 miles to see those....
John D, This was it. One time, so I'm happy to get the chance to capture the moment, and share a Guided Tour :-) Lou
It was a one-shot deal. This same Geneva, IL Concours is featuring finned cars at its August 2019 Concours, but will not be exclusively 300s and other Chryslers. Will include GM and Ford; maybe even a Stude and AMC? Interesting that Hemmings also featured the Chrysler 300 Letter Cars in its September 2019 Concours in NY, but drew only 4 or 5 Letter Cars. This was truly a special gathering that hasn't happened in many years. That said, the year 2020 represents the 50th anniversary of our Chrysler 300 Club International, Inc., and we're in the earliest stages of planning a Meet in the southeast Michigan area. We'll sure be trying to get a similar assemblage of these Letter Cars at that Meet.
There were several reasons the swivel seats were phased out mostly, because once the person got out of the car, you had to BEND OVER, click the lever and put the seat back, and if you had a girlfriend who forgot to do that and SLAMMED the door on the seat while it was OUT, it could mess the seat AND the door up. 😳

My biggest regret in highlighting a few features of each of these iconic Letter Cars was that this Concours was a 'hoods down' event, so the video shows only one of the Hemi motors (1957 300-C 392") and two of the crossram 413 wedge motors (1961 300-G and 1960 300-F 413"). These motors are the hearts of these beasts, with so many great features, and are wonderful to look at. A great reference book is "Chrysler 300: America's Most Powerful Car" by Robert Ackerson.
Thanks for adding to the story Noel. It's appreciated, Lou

Lou, would you contact Noel and ask would it be permissible for me to email him concerning information on the Chrysler 300E, F & G?

a couple of questions what are the orange spots on the headlights and i wonder why the never put the 426 wedge engine in them when they became available
Hi Michael, I believe the "orange spots" are car show stickers for that show sharing the car was judged. Not sure why no 426 wedge, Lou
The orange stickers just indicated that the car was judged. Had Chrysler gone forward with its planned 1966 300-M models, I believe the 426 was a designated engine option to go along with the standard 440 wedge. In 1966, the 413 was stroked to become the 440, which lived on for many more years. But the bean counters considered the low production Letter Cars too costly to continue for the '66 model year, in conjunction with the high performance intermediates that most automakers were then producing.
