Why Micah chose to be a rat

Recently I've been thinking about Micah and watching a lotta videos about him, and with everything I've learned about him, I realized that, of all the evil things he did in the game, ratting the gang wasn't one of them. He is still absolutely evil, but he isn't stupid. In his place you probably would've done the same.

As someone pointed out in the comments, Micah being a pdf file was never really even suggested in the game, I might've went a little bit too far on that one, I meant I wouldn't be surprised if that was ever suggested or confirmed, because I expect the worst from him, but yeah, not anything official. Him being a rapist on the other hand is heavily implied in the game. I don't think he meant no harm against Sadie tbh, otherwise he wouldn't get punched in the face for that.
Let's not forget he is still scum of the worst kind.

It wouldn't surprise me if Micah was the rat from the beginning and the reason he saved Dutch in the bar was to gain his trust and he been informing the Pinkerton since day one because it seemed ever since he joined the game they had nothing but problems

I personally don't believe that, it's a theory that I decided to look deeper into, but there's a few holes in it.

The problem with that theory is that milton said they picked him up after guarma.
Now I do think it's possible that micah may have been considering turning in Dutch if he thought Dutch was being dumb and keep pushing him into fights since the beginning of the game but him being rat since the beginning of the game makes no sense.
Plus micah wanted to know where dutch stashed the money he stole from black water so I think he tried to get dutch to tell him where he stashed the money so he can steal it from dutch which is why he stayed with dutch for so long.

Unless Milton was lying but I can't think of a logical reason why milton would lie about micah to arthur considering he had a gun pointed at him when he told him.

Something worth pointing out is that the wanted poster that Micah has of Dutch says that Dutch is only worth $1000. Seeing as we know Arthur is worth $5000 near the start of the game and the Pinkertons are willing to let him go in exchange for Dutch it's fair to say that by this point Dutch's bounty is a LOT higher then $1000. This implies that Micah was hunting Dutch well before the events of the game, probably a good few years in fact for the bounty to be so low. Personally I say he took the bounty and watched the gang for a good while before for some reason changing his mind and deciding to join them instead of bring them in.

That is a very good point, it kinda makes Micah a bit more humane for some reason, and the funny thing is that I can see that happening. It's a good theory.

The situation of Dutch’s Gang was complex and I’d say it’s hard to pinpoint any one thing that caused the downfall of the gang but a multitude of factors, some of which were outside of their control such as society marching forward.

Pretty much. I should've said Micah still had his fair share of guilt in the downfall of the gang, because as you said, a multitude of factors.

It was Dutch 100 but Micah could of took his money and split why live his life as a rat and betray the gang
