  • Bumphead parrotfish, or "bumpies", are one of the most unusual fish to target on a fly. They are perhaps the largest species that can be caught tailing on the flats and offer a real challenge to the fly angler. In this second video Wesley de Klerk from FlyCastaway and I sit down to chat about the best tides, approach, presentation, hook, strike and fight along wiht landing and releasing these fantastic fish.

What incredible fish. Listening to Wesley describe approaching a group of fish he uses the word 'school'. Out of idle curiosity I checked what the collective noun for parrots is and it turns out it's a 'pandemonium' of parrots. Sounds very apt when you see how they react when spooked or hooked. Also I imagine what happens at the angler end of the line. 😄
