Mauritania is a rich and beautiful country and it depends on your perspective. My experience in that country is insurmountable. A French-speaking country. Considered one of the biggest deposits of gas, oil, iron, copper, and gold. Once I worked in a foreign big mining company with the latest technology in exploring and extracting precious metals in the middle of the Sahara desert of Mauritania. Iron ore is mined by the Societe Nationale Industrie des Mauritanie (SNIM) once mined by the foreign company and was nationalized by the Mauritanian governments. China is the biggest buyer of iron ore. The Chinese government constructed a new modern international airport thru a loan grant.

I miss Mauritania. I lived there for two years. The hospitality is amazing. Even if your bush taxi breaks down, if u are close to a village people take u in and serve u tea and a meal even in the middle of the night. Returning to the US after two + years I felt lonely in our private society and suberbia. We as Americans could learn a lot about humanity from Mauritania and Africa in general.

He is very lucky that a local did not catch him bathing in their drinking water. They would consider it an act of extreme disrespect. There's a range of religiously observed customs at water holes. Besides doing something like urinating in it, this is perhaps the worst and most offensive thing anyone could possibly do.
