  • This is my review of the Ego pole hedge trimmer attachment for the multi tool system. It is very powerful and able to get through very thick branches if you want. It was great for high bushes which you normally would need to get on a ladder for.

Thanks Andrew. The hedger has been a great tool for me so far. It has saved me a bunch of time pruning bushes and hedges. It is a bit heavy but you get used to the balance quickly. Right now I'm using the 5 amp battery from my Ego chainsaw but it would be lighter with the 2.5 amp that usually comes with it.

You should try a backpack. They are great.

Thanks for the advice. The 5 amp hour battery lasts for most of my jobs and I'm getting used to the balance of it. I did have a job where I was pruning 20 foot arborvitae on a ladder and holding it above my head for a couple hours was hard.

Hi, thinking about buying one of these but I have a few low to the ground hedges.
Do you see the fact that it’s a pole trimmer being a problem. I think I saw a video where you can fold the blade back all the way and still cut, which would cut down on the length.

Hey Steve. I have been able to do both tall and short bushes with the pole trimmer with little issues. The main problem is that it can get a bit heavy after an extended period of trimming especially if you use a larger batter. I also have a handheld trimmer that I use for the lowest areas or any little parts that I have missed with the pole trimmer. If you haven't seen my video on doing a bunch of low boxwood hedges here it is: ua-cam.com/video/Ktf_hKteL_o/v-deo.html

Hi, what is the run time with the 2.5 amp battery with highest speed? Or the 5 amp battery. Also can you confirm the two speeds are 2800 and 3200? Thanks.

Hey Arshad - I only have the 5 and 10 amp batteries so I don't know how long the 2.5 lasts. The 5 amp hour usually lasts me 2-3 hours which is plenty. I always run on the highest speed and sorry the manual doesn't say what the different speeds are. I don't know why you would use the lower speed maybe with the sweeper attachment on it?

@@yardbuddha Thanks. No. I don't want to use the low speed. I just wanted to know the highest speed. It seems adequate regardless. The time is great for the 5 amp. That means the 2.5 could last for an hour or more. An additional 2.5 amp battery would be good, or maybe a 5 amp if not a lot heavier. The only thing I'm hesitant to buy Ego is the weight. Do you know the total weight with the 5 amp and an extension? Thanks.

Ok here are the weights in pounds: Power head (5.8), Hedger attachment (5.4), 2.5 Amp (2.8), 5 Amp (4.9), Extension pole (1.5). The only problem I've ever had with the weight was pruning 20 foot arborvitaes on a ladder and I had to hold it above my head for a long time. They also sell a backpack you can put the battery in.

Also; I don't like the weight either. I have the edger; where the weight doesn't matter; and the polesaw and hedge trimmer attachments; where the weight is a big concern.
So much so that I have purchased Greenworks 24v versions of these tools which save considerable weight. Are they made as well? No. But their ease of use outweighs, (pun intended), that consideration.

John - yes the pole hedge trimmer is heavy but I have a 2.5 Amp Hour battery that I can use for 20 minutes or so that makes it lighter. Ego is making all their new equipment carbon fiber to cut down on weight also. Check out this review on the normal hedge trimmer: ua-cam.com/video/7NGedvuhI7A/v-deo.html

It seems like all the pruning you were doing could have been done with a conventional hedge trimmer. Why were you using the pole version?

Those hedge rows were really high it would be impossible to do the tops with a normal hedge trimmer.
