I share your sentiments on Grus. I caught up right at the beginning of Egghead (1060 was the first new chapter I had read) and he's definitely one of the characters introduced post-Wano that I actually have started to really take a liking to. His fruit is cool and I really like his dynamic with Koby.
My thoughts & opinions of the chapter: 1. While postponing the full confirmation on Garp's fate may be the best thing by far, I now think that the next time we see Garp, he could either be in a similar position as Mjosgard was, or the Blackbeard Pirates & Cross Guild will announce his public execution to the world which may force the Marines & the Strawhats to join forces to save him! 2. It's great to know that after about 4 months, we will return to Egghead in the next chapter. But if the Navy Fleet are truly there, then I do wonder exactly how Luffy & the others could contact reinforcements unless the Grand Fleet, the Kuja Pirates, and/or the Revolutionary Army were to show up in a Jinbe fashion just when all hope seems lost for them. 3. Wished Hancock & Rayleigh saw what a selfless man Koby was to his fellow soldiers. It could've almost convinced them to forgive him for his actions in Amazon Lily. Almost.
@@RandyTroy Well I still think they could have shown respect for Koby if they saw it. Perhaps Hancock or Rayleigh would've seen a bit of Luffy within Koby.
I don't think the grandfleet can make it in time if st. Saturn, kizaru and a fleet of navy arrives on egghead, but i do think the bb pirates would unintentionally help the strawhats and the stella vegapunk to escape, since it seems one of the bb pirates ship has also arrive on egghead.
@@dwightalexander2648 I doubt the Blackbeard Pirates would do that, unless they want to give a message to Luffy where they abducted his grandfather & will only spare him if he accepts their demands. However, unlike most Blackbeard related events, they will just sneak into the island to get something & leave, while the SH & the Marines face each other.
Hey Randy I usually never take my time to actually comment on videos but I have to say that you really are my favorite One Piece youtuber out there. Your observations like the one with Kuzan practicing Garps ideologies in Ohara make me love this series even more! The small, intentional and consistent details in Odas writing are absolutely phenomenal and it is much thanks to you that I've started to read One Piece in a whole different way. Thank you for that!
8:05 Slightly off topic but I viewed Corazon as Law's big brother due to the age difference (10-14 years) and a contrast to Corazon's relationship with his brother.
"anyway, I said we were gonna talk about Coby and I went back to Garp" lol it be like that. I don't have anything to add, I just wanted to comment because I know it helps. Good video, Randy
I love how in the beginning Garp says in the question to leave the old behind, but Koby says he'd leave himself behind, then Garp does both when presented this scenario. The teacher kept his way of thinking, while also learning from his student.
I think the potential of Kuzan being fully committed to Blackbeard but still holding some higher ideal is interesting, what does Kuzan get from this, what does he want?
I still wanna hold out on the chance of a zombie Garp or a Garp shadow thing but not likely if moriah slipped out and Garp is getting the Saul treatment. I don’t know if anybody ever connected “the world according to Garp” to this Garp not a lot of overt similarities but he does die at the end.
Coby is superior morally than Garp. Beehive Island has turned into Marineford 2.0. Coby finally got a feat! Many doubted Kuzan's Resolve to drop a Body!!! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👏 Also, Coby utilized Armaments Haki Ryou offensively, bit Conqueror's Haki.
I think Garps last words about the future of the marines was meant for all his present students. Including kuzan. You kids must survive. Sacrifice this old man for that to happen. Garp let KUZANs and them have him which helps him and kuzan and koby all do what they do! Yessir
Put into context their whole conversation. Once kuzan told him he changed his plans and is following his own whim. Throughout their “fight” Garps convo to aokiji changed to stop hesitating, stop worrying about me, and you’re still soft for worrying about ME. Kuzan said he’s still him. I think garp knows that.
Solid review so far. 11:48 im here and i agree with koby not listening to garp to get to hachinosu in the first place, and how garp had to give him one last lesson. Koby did need this lesson though
He should have never ended up in that situation to begin with. Garp would have scrapped with BB til the end. Koby's a different breed, but that's why Garp sees something special in him
@@RandyTroy super agreed. If koby had learned the lesson the first time, the situation wouldve been entirely different. Now the lesson is hopefully learned given the circumstances
Ooooo I love the ice cauterization theory, I didn't notice he got stabbed in the same spot, that's extremely clever of you.. and definitely clever of oda if that's what's actually happening. 👌 really good catch
My current reasoning for why Oda didn't have Tashigi do anything is because she's not S.W.O.R.D. and Garp didn't have the authority to let her act against a Yonko crew.
Thing is I think the narrative is moving towards proving Garp wrong not the other way around. Garp isn’t wrong per se but his logic has some dangerous side effects that’s probably led to just about every regret he has in life. Koby sees through that and at some point he’s going to be given a choice between saving two people and he’s going to save everyone at his own detriment because he’s Koby the HERO and that’s what hero’s do. That’s why Luffy’s not a hero and Koby is. Even though Luffy would do the same thing he operates on pretty similar garp logic. his more freedom oriented position keeps that from leading to him having regrets though unlike garp.
I want to see the luffys reaction after hearing about kobi and Garp. Which way does he go. Towards black beard who defeated law and his grandfather. Or to fish man island hearing that the nobles want the mermaid princess. Saturn will let it slip to Jimbie that the mermaid princess is about to become a slave. Then luffy will destroy and defeat them have all the fishmen and mink and his fleet backing him up for the final battle.
i think its a bit disingenuous to say Koby sacrificing himself at Amazon Lily was not following Garp's teachings. Koby sacrificed himself, 1 man, in exchange for EIGHT HUNDRED people. If that isn't following Garp's priorities of saving the 'potential of the future', I think Koby did the exact right thing.
Yep. Anyone of those 800 "fodder" could be a future admiral in the making that helped change the Marines like Garp hopes. But even beyond that, they're all people with families waiting for them back home, people with hopes and dreams that were essentially being condemned to slavery, torture and death all because the world government didn't want to risk pissing off an emperor if they didn't have to. This fits perfectly with Koby as well due to how affected he was in marineford from literally feeling the people dying around him. He's never going to willingly sacrifice people just because it's more convenient, regardless of what Garp says. He's just going to keep trying to get strong enough to save everyone. That's his justice. What Koby did is the absolute essence of heroism and is precisely WHY he is the best choice to reform the Marines with his "honest justice" in the future.
Honestly after wano, it seems to me that the story is writing itself at this point. Gotta be one of the perks of having such a well constructed narrative. All oda needs to worry about is themes, dialogue and character designs.
@@RandyTroy i also feel like it really helps that oda knows the ending, he could make so many twist and turns yet still arrive at where he wants the story to go.
Randy, with the fate of Garp the hero up in the air regardless of what happened to him, I think we are witnessing the start of what one other one piece UA-camr put it as the great marine collapse. Something tells me that Akainu, the gorosei, and other corrupt marines/wg leaders are going to just leave Garp, hero of the marines, to be killed for what they believe is top priority, which is covering up Vegnapunk assassination to kidnapping Vivi back in secret to cover up what happened at the reverie. This will probably be the final straw that breaks the camels back and starts up a civil war within the ranks of the marines, like moral justice marines like Koby, Smoker, Fujitora etc vs absolute justice corrupt marines like Akainu, Greenbull, etc
In honor of garp I say we retire packing. From now on we battleshipping people out of here now. Kizaru that battleship bag is coming. I've been waiting for that pina pika bag for a minute because I know it's going to have me out like a light

Oda sensei is a genius but he failed to impress me with Koby I’m not even excited to see him become an admiral he doesn’t hype me at all he’s not even a side character to me he’s a nobody we didn’t get enough of him for me to care about him his signature move is honesty impact that sounds so gay this is Odas only L imo
Koby is not using conqueror’s haki. It’s just really strong armament. We’ve seen this before! I hate that Oda is so unclear with this stuff but it’s really important to understand that this was not a show of conqueror’s haki. I do think he will likely have it by the end of the story, but it doesn’t make sense for it to be this instance. As Rayleigh said, you cannot train conqueror’s haki. And this chapter really emphasized that Koby was training for this punch. And it also called back to the training that Luffy did when he was training for advanced armament haki as well. Punching steel walls.
I have hated Koby ever since he attempted to desert from the battlefield in Marineford while his comrades were risking their lives fighting pirates, same for Usopp when he abandoned the Tontattas and put their lives in danger, I know Oda wants me to forgive them but I can't forgive coward traitors like them. So for me Oda made a mistake setting up Koby as an admiral, and he will probably give him CoC Haki too which is insane for me. I also hate the whole "new generation" theme that Oda has been pushing these last arcs because a) it's discriminatory against adults and old people, as if they had nothing to contribute to society when in fact the opposite is more likely as compared to inexperienced young people b) it's not believable that dudes under 20 are so great and seem so powerful when in reality they would need years of training, real combat experience and so much more to be so good. Add to all of this that we are witnessing yet another fake out death from Oda plus no Bogard agenda fulfilled and for me this is unironically a 0/10 chapter.
@@spectrademonica not generally, but I'm 100% on the side of Akainu in the issue of dealing with deserters. And actually capital punishment is usually what happens globally to soldiers who defect.
Keeping pressure on a wound, that’s what kuzan could be doing, by keeping pressure on the wound you can stop the bleeding meaning garp won’t bleed out. It’s why doctors tell you not to remove a knife if you’re stabbed
Getting god valley flashback from Garp's memories, would be sick
I think the marine in Garps lesson is Kuzan on Hatchinosu and not Coby, he sacrificed Garp to protect himself (and his mission) and the baby marines
Could apply to both honestly
Beautifully said. He's letting the children leave on the boat once again.
