Great stuff Shane.
Saw the thumbnail and title and was SO hoping to see you use one of your olde-timey ‘affordable HomeKit’ intros as a throwback. 😂
Thanks, as always for the quality content.
😂 oh man taking it waay back! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel all these years! 🙏 🙏
Thanks for the suggestion! The nanoleaf lightstrip is a solid pick for smart home setups under $50. It looks so cool, too.

Pro-tip:
Nanoleaf bulbs AVOID. Ever since they switched to Matter their bulbs have been a headache. They go nonresponsive all the time, effect other Nanoleaf products for example a shortcut will not run properly, adaptive lighting is effected on all thread products malfunctioning all the time, HomeKit rooms will change names randomly to old names you longer use and didn’t even know that data was saved somewhere, and other thread items will malfunction. (iOS updates and firmware never fixed the problem) The Nanoleaf bulbs are a virus to your smart home. Avoid avoid avoid , lol, no seriously avoid. That said the Nanoleaf strips are nice.
I have been having CRAZY issues with my Nanoleaf products as of late. I have been chasing my tail trying to figure out what exactly the issue is. I will remove my Nanoleaf bulbs and see if that makes a difference!
@@Kevin-bq4ki wish that was my case. I’ve spent hours with Apple support and Nanoleaf. I’ve reset routers, bulbs, signed out iCloud, tried through their app, even scraped my entire smart home and started from scratch. No matter the length I still had issues. I just use the bulbs as “dumb” bulbs now because the second I connect them to my home network is the second the whole thing crashes, lol.
That power strip looks totally nuts. I will definitely order a few of them! Too bad it wasn’t thread enabled as well, as I love my Eve Powerstrips but don’t like that they use WiFi.
My wife likes nightlights around the house but I think it’s time to get these in the SmartHome so I will try a few of those out as well.
Thanks a ton for the great video. You know how I hate to shop for my own SmartHome so this may finally be the push I needed 🤫
Thanks for watching!
Glad to see the TP-Link Tapo Matter certified bulb in the list. I have been slowly trying out many Matter certified Tapo wifi devices and they have all been solid. So far I have the L535E light, the P125M plug, TP25 outdoor plug (replaced a Meross with connection issues), and the S505D dimmer switch. I'd suggest that this line might be fodder for a review video in the future.
Thanks for sharing! I also have the TP Link outdoor plug but have not set it up yet. Glad to hear it's working well for you.

Pro-Tip:
If you have a HomeKit router do not restrict or limit Aqara in the least. Aqara requires full unlimited access to your home and WiFi otherwise it will malfunction.
Honestly surprised you recommended a eufy camera after their past issues with privacy and security. I wouldn’t recommend anyone ever getting their products. They lied about privacy such as it not using the cloud and then also stored use login passwords in plain text. And then didn’t admit fault and hoped everyone would forget
I agree with you. Their response to these issues was the biggest concern, in my opinion. Mistakes and oversights can happen, even by large companies, but it's how they respond and "right their wrongs" that's most important.
The good thing about the cameras mentioned in this video is that you can connect them directly to Apple HomeKit, and bypass the Eufy app completely if you are concerned with privacy or don't want to use the Eufy app for any other reason.
There are other HSV cameras that I would recommend, but none are as affordable as the Eufy C120. You just can't find another decent camera, with support for homekit secure video, under $50.
I am gonna buy most of the things on this video. Thank you !!!!
@@ShaneCreates I think how they responded was even worse to be honest. But that is somewhat reassuring that you don’t ever need to use their app or register the camera with them. I still don’t think I would use it because of that, but definitely makes me consider it as a recommendation for others. But I also prefer cameras to recording locally and not connected to the internet at all which is a whole different topic
did anyone else notice the 60p framerate right away?! great video btw!
I need one of those powerstrips just for all the Zigbee border routers for Homekit.
haha I hear that! It's definitely come in handy for testing all my smart home products!
Something that Zigbee's IP based sibling, Matter over Thread, excels in. One Thread hub, Homepod, Nest hub, or even an Echo fourth gen, is all that a Matter over Thread device needs to function in any echosystem.(pun intended)
Hey Shane. Great video. Can you help me fix my Homebridge instance?
Awesome arms dude
I found the Meross LED light strip to also be a very affordable and very good. Also being homekit enabled. But I believe its not matter or thread.
Thanks for sharing! Correct, the Meross LED strip is wifi based, but could be another good, affordable option.
Is there any matter-supported robot vacuum available now?
Isn’t a Meross Smart MOD150HK also a Air humidifier too?
Where else besides Amazon can I get the P1 Motion sensor? It’s not longer available on Amazon
Can any of the motion sensors you mentioned work outdoors? If not, can you recommend outdoor eligible motion sensors, regardless of price?
Yes, the Eve Motion is rated for outdoor use.
Hi Shane, any chance that the superdanny 22 outlet comes in a EU model?
Not that I'm aware of, sorry.
Any reason for avoiding meross smart plugs and light strips? Especially vocolinc light strip which is on 50% sale for a while now?
I used the new Meross Matter smart plug recently for a while, and didn't have a great experience. Lots of dropped connections in Apple Home with those. As mentioned in the video, I will choose smart plugs that connect via Thread if given the choice.
I haven't used their light strip. I'm sure it's a reasonable option for an affordable WiFi lightstrip. VOCOlinc would be another good budget option for WiFi lightstrips. I have a few of the older Vocolinc lightstrips that I've had for years, still getting used daily. Fortunately there are a number of affordable options for WiFi LED strips with Apple Home support these days.
Do you like the Eve plug or Aqara plug better?
If I had to pick one, it's probably the Eve plug because it's smaller.
@@ShaneCreates ok, also do u have more then one hub in your house?
The ThirdReality one with a night light doesn’t have an EU version right?
Not that I'm aware of.
🥰🥰
The third Reality nightlight just makes me sad about them discontinuing the echo flex… I wish Google and Apple had copied that form factor
Ikea propose lot of Apple Home products.
I’ve heard people pronounce Tuya like it’s spelled, two-ya and he’s pronounced it toy-ya… does anyone know which is actually correct?
8:16 careful with that Wiz bulb recommendation for Apple Home users, as anything under Philips’ Wiz brand only supports Siri Shortcuts and *NOT* HomeKit natively
Wiz now supports Matter so they can be integrated into HomeKit also.
@@ShaneCreates oh really? I just saw them at Home Depot the other day and didn’t see any Matter logo on the box but maybe those are just outdated still or something

A fire hazard!
Just don't overload the circuit and you will be fine (common sense). Plus there is overload protection that should automatically cut off power in case of an overload. But again... common sense goes a long way here.
