    It's been a few years, so they have probably just fixed the issue, but the one that I recently got didn't have this problem at all. In fact, it's impressive how smooth the lock (locks?) is.

    Nice review and an awesome solution for the design flaw of this lock 😎

    Just bought one, for the same reasons as you.
    Could feel it was picked, but it was stuck and wouldn't rotate...

      Been Pickin Absolutely! I had the same rationale you did; I take locks with me everywhere. This is way easier than taking 4 or more locks with me.

    I took apart my REVOLVER and filed the core key slot like in the video. I don't have a problem picking CW but it is a little rough/sticky when picking CCW. Sparrows says it should be pickable CCW. I would like you to pick your REVOLVER and hear your results. I was only able to pick the lock with the standard pins.

    I had a similar problem with mine. Somehow a spring worked loose and found its way into the outside of the core. space Whenever you tried to turn the cylinder it jammed up

    • @chessnut991
      @chessnut991  6 років тому +1

      Ouch! Well, I'm glad you got it figured out. I hope it didn't score up the cylinder too bad. Thanks for watching and subscribing Darren, be sure to leave a "hello" on my 100+ sub giveaway to enter for this Saturday's drawing, there's pretty picks to be had for the lucky winner. So far, I think, there's 52 names in the pot, so good luck and thanks again!

      I submitted this to Sparrows, of what I think caused my jamming spring problem.
      I removed the last few pins from the first chamber and when i rotated around to other chambers, 3 springs got stuck and jammed it up and i had to remove all the pin stacks and destroy 2 springs and damage 1 spring end (which was able to bend back).
      It appears that if you remove a driver pin + spring from chamber #__ you need to removed the pin+spring from ALL chambers of that same number, example. "Driver Pin #1 + spring from ALL 4 chambers".
      Unless this is a non-reproducible problem (which i doubt) I think it should be mentioned as very important, so people avoid having this same issue.
      "included with THE REVOLVER are all the parts you need to remove some pins and make this an easier lock to pick open. "
      May add something like "WARNING: Always remove all pins in same stack position from all chambers before picking to avoid spring/pin jamming problems. (Example, if you want only the first 3 pins, remove pins from chambers 4 and 5 and 6 in ALL chambers before rotating core.)"
      Also, I am completely satisfied with the difficulty of picking this lock.

    • @BeatsFromDP
      @BeatsFromDP 6 років тому +1

      I had the same issue. Replaced the spring and it still would stick and not turn to the next one all the way. After cranking the tension tool hard it would pop to the next one and now it gives me no issues.
      Only issue I have with this lock now is that after picking a few times you know the binding order no matter the pins. I may take a schlage cylinder I have on hand and replace and see if it changes everything up.

    • @FusionDeveloper
      @FusionDeveloper 6 років тому +1

      BeatsFromDP oh wow I never thought about trying another Schlage cylinder in that lock. I have other Schlage course I bought from sparrows I'll have to see if they fit. I hope to run into the same problem you have of being too easy because you know the binding order. for me I'm still working on trying to send all the pins which is why I had taken out other pins because I was still having trouble. if you can replace the cores and get different binding orders that may be a great idea for them to offer.

    Hi, wonder if you can help me? I got my revolver this morning, and all
    seemed fine. On my very first attempt- I opened the first standard
    position (which I really shouldn't have been able to do- maybe just
    lucky) So I CAREFULLY removed pins 4 and 5 to start at 3 pins. I then
    turned the lock with the key and at 180 degrees it locked solid and just
    wont move from there. There's nothing in the keyway- I can see all the
    way though. the key comes out , but the core is jammed solid! Any advice
    befer I go through the hassle of returning it?

      Thank you very much, Bill! Chamferring works for full-size pins, but I'll need to cut one of Bobby's shotguns for pointy pins.

    I took a empty pill bottle and tossed a few Schlage lock cores in it and a large round lock fit perfect as a plug cap. But the small Schlage had to be held by hand if u wanted to pick them. So I ordered the Revolver. I like it.

    • @chessnut991
      @chessnut991  6 років тому

      I've seen no "poor mans substitute" yet. It's a pretty cool idea, they just need to address the pin-in-the-keyway issue.

  • @AngryHatter

    I have found if you rebuild the lock from scratch, i.e. remove ALL the pins and springs and rebuild it with better springs it works 100% better.
    (Upon delivery mine had a spring that had dropped into the core so when I rotated it, the lock jammed)
    You are right the bottom groove is too sharp.

    • @Obr1en

      Same here my lock jammed with stuck springs wrapped around the core

      Same, mine came with some pins missing in some chambers and it jammed easily, it also didnt come with a key.. removed all of the pins and ordered a rekey set so i can just rebuild it

  • @nghgkc6

    I tried to pick my REVOLVER CCW yesterday and was successful once without any problems when rotating the core. After that, when trying to rotate it when picking, it felt like I had a spring hanging it up so I stopped turning it to prevent any damage. No problems rotating the core with a key in either direction. Do you think my problem is like the one in your video? When champhering the grove, did you use a three sided file?

  • @Liberty4Ever
    @Liberty4Ever 4 роки тому

    I think Sparrows must have finished the bottom of the core on my Revolver because it hardly catches at all. I pulled thw cire but didn't notice. Next time I have the core out, I'll use a rat tail needle file to make small grooves in the pin positions on the bottom of the core so there is a lead in and lead out for the opposite driver pins, rather than chamfering the entire slot.

    I'm surprised that it rotates at all. Seems like when you get the bottom of the key underneath some drivers they should bind up the rotation every time when you don't have a key inserted. I know it does that to me on locks when I turn the keyway 180°. All the drivers fall into that key cut out, and you have to push them back up to get the lock to rotate. Maybe they don't go all the way in, and just the edge gets hung up like you demonstrated.
    Everyone seems to be getting this revolver. Maybe after the New year I'll get one. I hook locks to my belt loops when I go out, so I'll have something to pick. I also keep at least one lock in my Jeep to practice on. Every day I pick at least one lock.

    • @chessnut991
      @chessnut991  6 років тому

      It works with the full-size pins that are in it, but if you use pins that are cut-down in any way like T-pins, you'll have to use a shotgun or something to that effect. Thanks for watching, William.

    I’m having an issue where my brand new revolver will rotate as though picked when under tension with my tensioning tool. Do I need to change my pins before it actually locks up or what do I do?

  • @lexxb6386
    @lexxb6386 6 років тому +2

    Mine will only bind and pick counter clockwise, nothing clockwise.

    • @chessnut991
      @chessnut991  6 років тому +1

      That's because of the off-set at the bottom of the keyway, it will hold the pins down when turned CCW but will let them pop up and interfere when turned CW. To pick clockwise, you'll have to push the pins back down in the bottom of the keyway with a flat tool like I did in the video with a wiper tension wrench.
      I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching!

    Well damn, I got one of them coming in the mail but I don't have any followers... Guess I'll be using a windshield wiper in the meantime since this Holiday season has made me super broke... maybe I'll roll up some cardboard for a follower or buy a swisher cigar and use that instead...

    • @chessnut991
      @chessnut991  6 років тому +2

      A follower is not necessary on this lock. It's messy, but you can use the wrench to remove all the plugs, springs and pins, and then pull the core. Enjoy the lock and thanks for watching!
