When I surfed upon this link, I was hoping to see the bulb exchange. I too have an '06 Mazda 6, but just a plain 2.3 w/o turbo. I just ordered some LED bulbs in Red and White for interior and license plate. Got a 10 pk of each for 20 CAN dollars per 10. GF bought me a set of interior lights 2 wks ago that I have yet to install. Your efforts yielded excellent results.
Thanks! The foot lights and 3-switch was all bought from walmart believe it or not (about $40 total). As for installation its plugged into my 12v socket in my arm rest. With the help of some black tape and tucking wires away under carpets and what not it almost looks like it is hard wired into my car. Both the lights and the switch came with mounting tape on the back as well.
hey i just bought 04 mazda 6, this is gorgeous! I went to walmart and looked at those i decided against them, but you did an EXCELLENT job, im doing this as soon as i can! thanks
Thanks! I only got these for now because I'm still new to electronics and what not. Once i figure it out I'll have them hardwired and hooked up with my parking lights. Congrats on your 6 as well! Its a great car and I love the way they look!
Your point about the economy car is valid however most companies offer their own sport segment (STi, Si, GTi, GLi, TRD, Mazdaspeed, SVT, SS, etc) with parts that are available to be put on lower models. Some people just want a little more get-up and go in their cars. Maybe neck-breaking torque, and a ride that can break your back isn't their cup of tea. Basically it all ends up being the preference and mindset of the owner.
Mike, how is it an "underpowered vehicle"? It has 141 BHP, I'd say that's alright for an economy/standard car. Most of the cars on the streets have around 105 BHP or so (VW Golf, Bora, Passat - Honda Civic - Renault Megane etc)
I probably put about $500 dollars in "mods", most of them just replacing parts that have gone bad and I just ended up getting something a little better in quality. Do you also find it comical when people go out and buy old, broken-down,classics for $100, drop $50k and end up with a car that can keep up with your average sports car?
You could have at least hid the neon tubes a little better. You would have been better off using an LED strip as well. In most cases, they can be a lot brighter. My strips are so bright that I don't even need the ones to go underneath the seats, it shines through under them anyway. Also, to completely get rid of that eye sore of a 3-switch socket adapter, just wire everything to a rocker switch, install that somewhere discreet and wire in everything to your cigarette lighter. Wires are hidden, and everything looks OEM.
Nice lights! Where did you buy those light strips for the front and rear "foot" lighting? And also where'd you get the 3-switch power splitter? Easy install for that too?
There are 4 tabs on the sides (2 on each) if i remember correctly. Just cover a flat head screw driver and they should pop right out. Be careful not to break them though
people will modd anything... its a form of expression. If i have a 200 dollar "thing" on my car that no luxury car has.. my goal of originality and style has been achieved. Its the same as girls and their nails, tattoos, or jewelry. Pure self enjoyment.
Just got same car yesterday except mine dosent have leather seats. They look good, kinda jelly haha. Oh and I was wondering wat you do for music because it dosent have aux port or Bluetooth so idk was just wondering if u know of a way to set it to connect to phone.
I know this is late but I got my Mazda a few weeks ago and for aux I bought an aux that plugs into the back of the radio. Then I just ran it through the gap in the e brake.
Modding is a way for the driver to ad his or her style to their car. Yes it may end up RICE and we laugh at it but it's their decision. Some people may not have the urge to use that "mod money" towards a newer car but to improve their current one. If you are still iffy on the fact that it is a waste to mod a 6, I recommend that you go search the Punisher 6 on here. If that car can't prove my point I don't know what will.
I'll try to answer your question to the best of my ability. To start off, its not just Mazda 6s and Honda Civics that get modded. I can bet good money you will find a modded VW Golf, Acura RSX, Toyota Celica, or other "front-drive, underpowered vehicles" before you see a modded 6. About saving money to buy a sports car or luxury car that's all preference. Mazda offered the Speed6 which I assure you was not under powered in any way.
