What piss me off about buying ecopla is that every reseller think these are premium kits while they are not. When I visited Tokyo Gundam Base, I was surprised to see the price difference between the both versions were just 300 yen or 3 usd. These delusional think that people will spend 50 usd more just to buy recycle plastic is absurd.
You’re totally right. But the Real problem is pbandai. When a product is only sold in extremely limited quantities, in a small window of time, from one seller, it leaves the product vulnerable to reseller price gauging. When we’re talking about a product promoting sustainability, this is just a tragedy.

Back when I picked up this kit during a gunpla event I didn't yet know what Ecopla is and mainly got it for the color scheme. The Ecopla kits originally actually cost the same as the regular one. It's the resellers who crank the price. I'm yet to build mine but I'm glad to hear that the plastic itself is nice (I loved the plastic in WfM kits) because it kinda got me worried that it would be more brittle. Now that I own several ecopla kits in backlog (Barb, Aile Strike RM, Exia, Lfrith, RX-78, and the eggshell Nu, lol) I'm finally looking forward to build them. Saw the same color schemed Aerial on the Gundam Next Future West event yesterday and I'm probably getting that too. I do take my runners to the nearest Namco center in Osaka to throw them into the recycle bin (and be the "I'm doing my part" meme). And it feels like you throw away more plastic than it was used for the parts of the model. Buying a kit, holding it in your hands, than building the kit, putting the runners back in the box, and there's almost no weight difference compared to newly built kit. But this Ecopla thing is all just for show, for upping the good image of the company since everyone is jumping the eco bandwagon recently. Japan is ironically the second-largest generator of plastic packaging waste on a per capita basis after the USA. Even if I recycle all the gunpla runners in the world it would never be enough. The omiyage culture alone makes local manufacturers wrap things in 3-4 layers of plastic and wherever I go I end up with several plastic bags regardless. You should have seen my plastic bag collection under the sink, I could build a human-sized gundam just from it alone.
Great production value! This is pretty great video. And yes, while Ecopla is largely Japan exclusive, it should be noted that the SRW kits are also Ecopla as the box says so Bandai does release it outside of Japan at times.
Thanks for such high praise! There are some kits that incorporate ecopla runners that are not fully recycled kits like this barbatos as well, but I personally have never seen one in the wild. I also want to point out that the Gunpla-Kun DX kit uses Limex, which is a bit more environmentally friendly as it reduces the new material used by 50%. Hopefully we start see more kits made of that. I'm glad to see they're trying lots of socially responsible products lately!
The leftover runner sheets leave me with a lot of guilt, and despite being able to use some of them for DIY plastic models, they're usually the reason I don't buy any kits nowadays. I really wish the program was expanded into the US, but unless that happens I'll be okay with just watching youtubers and pros create them.
please, do not take this as negative criticism, please please please! at 0:52, when you use the hologram effect, there is a high pitched whine, akin to coil whine in the sound effect of the hologram, that is VERY grating to the ears. at first i thought my speakers were having some kind of electrical short, until i repeated that segment of the video. WONDERFUL video otherwise. very informative and a nice quick watch. im not sure if you're able to hear that frequency, and so you may have missed it, but it's like dog whistle high pitched.
Heya! just a slight accessibility thing, the really sharp CRT whine when the holograph effect happened at 1:00 caused my tenitus to flare up really badly, there might be other people who have that issue, otherwise, interesting video!
It's a really high frequency, so the person editing probably couldn't even hear it. I don't even have tinnitus and that sound makes that part of the video unbearable.
That's interesting. I don't have tinnitus, but I don't seem to pick up on the high pitch frequency you/others are pointing out. I hear the effect of when the hologram turns on, as well as a subtle static-like effect in the background when the hologram is running. I'm guessing I can't hear that frequency, unless he's edited the sound effect since your guys post/comments.

Yep. I always feel bad throwing away used runners but being in a backwater ass country in SEA that isn't anywhere near Japan, what choice do I have? Also, I may love the kits made through that service but FUCK P-Bandai in general.
I was lucky to get an Ecopla Exia for the same price as the standard MG Exia, and I was genuinely pleased that it can hold up the weight of its weapons even after quite a bit of play. If you can get one for a good price, I'd recommend it, but given how their prices skyrocketed recently I don't think they'd be worth the effort of finding one.
Ecopla's achilles heel for the international market is it's just a gimmick. gimmick kit tend to be overpriced due to scalper equating its scarcity to premium-ness while its actually just a regular kit. my suggestion for the ecopla program is to make a reward system where people can send runner from around the world and bandai reward them using a point system (maybe using a bandai app)where when you accumulate enough you can redeem kits from bandai official distributor in each countries.

Might as well just buy two original then custom paint one of them to look like an ecopla kit, saves up more money than buying the ecopla through resellers.

I own the Master Grade Ecopla Barbatos, and the high grade RX 78, Zaku II, and Gundam MK II. They look fantastic and feel fantastic. The only issue I had is that one of Barbatos Shoulders, doesn’t stay up, it flips down (so if anyone knows a fix let me know). I’ve built Ecopla kits and I highly recommend them.
The barbatos shoulder thing (at least in my case) is due to the c-clip joint being overstressed, and can't actually be fixed. Instead, may i suggest buying diecast replacements, either individually off of ebay, or the full diecast frame set?
@@Bigbear0288yt not that I know of. If the joint has been stressed already, tightening it will only cause it to stress further, eventually leading to breakage. Also, if you don't want the diecast parts, I know a site called Gundam Extra that lets you order replacement parts if they have the kit in stock.
Hey buddy, enjoyed the video but could you lower the BGM you insert? It's super loud compared to your voice and makes it hard to hear you without fiddling around with the volume.
Ecopla is basically marketing. Like any recycling plastic program, they still need to add new material into the mix. Also requires extra processing. Personally, Pban for kits I can't get normally. To me, this is just a recolor.
The issue I have is the customer see no advantage to Ecopla. If they would make it cheaper for people to own kits or give discounts for returning runners than it would be worth it. But going through the hassle of returning runners if Bandi is the only one saving money and I still have to buy the kit at full price.

something I find neat with ecopla is that they have started (albeit in a very VERY small way) integrating it into normal kits, like I have the HG huckebein mk2, and I found out that the entire frame of the kit is made from ecopla plastic, I honestly think if they were to do that more with mainline release kits that it'd be a much more sustainable ideal instead of exclusively ecopla plastic versions of existing kits, but I doubt bamco would do that more
I'd totally pay 5 or 10 bucks more but 30 or 40 is a bit ridiculous since theyre made of recycled plastics if anything they should be cheaper, I wish there were better methods to recycling here in the US, I personally love getting my friend's left over plastic and usually do fun things with them, but I still wish there was a way I could convert them into new kits and its a shame I currently dont have the means to

The only way I could see the program working internationally is if they offered a type of benefit for people to ship their runners over to Japan, like having the price of shipping go towards a points system or smth. But besides that eco friendly is a great idea but always difficult to execute
Arguments against Ecopla are only fair if you consider what the future potential is, not what its doing right now. Otherwise it'll be like bashing electric cars when the first Tesla came out 10 years ago, and saying how there are no charging stations outside the USA and there are way too few electric cars on the road to make a difference. Recycling will never be as cheap as using new materials, so ultimately we as consumer will need to decided if we're okay to pay for shipping the spurs back to Bandai (maybe they can have hubs internationally) , and being okay to pay more for Gunpla that involves recycled plastic. I think most would be okay for the latter, and as long as some are willing to make a difference, it's still better than none.

This Canadian would buy it for both the eco reasons and that sweet repaint. But due to being in rural Canada that has trouble handling paper recycling let alone custom plastic beyond pop bottles not likely a system they can bring to the whole world. Still I'd pay a bit more if places like HLJ could get them.

People are missing the point it suppose to be experiment for the older builder to test on but they released it premium cause they do not want to promote it massively but it being sup par or worse than the normal released that why it exclusive but they are some store in Japan that you can sell the mold imo since I have this it great plastic and it good to be practice in other series like hg or rg since many people go for them
Even the regular barbatos is a great build. Pretty unique in terms of construction. But ultimately if I find any ecopla kits, I’m going to pick them up immediately.
That's awesome. That logo means at least one of the runners includes recycled material. I also just want to acknowledge how cool it is that Bandai is including recycled material in non premium kits. On a side note, how'd those plastic bags over the joints treat you on that kit? (I'm assuming you meant the thunderbolt kit)
@@GunplaMotion the bags around the elbow/knee joints weren't too bad to put on tbh. Once you put 1 on, the rest become pretty standard. The tricky part for me was attaching the arms to the body lol. There's a little notch on the shoulder attachment and then a 180 turn, but I originally missed the notch. Awesome kit.
Picked up the RX-72 and Exia while I was in Japan, built the RX-72 and was kind of blown away how I didn't get too many stress marks. It's really good plastic, but yeah, sustainability is out the window. Japan is probably their biggest market, but yeah this comes off as a giant PR stunt. Though, honestly? I don't see how they'd push that sort of thing into other markets. The US itself seems like it'd be a cluster to try to manage drop-off points, and shipping it... might be out of the question. I also don't remember spending much more than the actual kits, for what that's worth.
I'd love to be able to recycle the runners from kits, I've been doing more recycling these past few months to try and reduce my impact on the world. And it really freaking sucks seeing a whole kit worth of runners going into the trash since I don't believe my recycling center would take those. As for whether or not I'd buy one of these I'd have to say no since it'd only be for the colors but I definitely think they should continue this eco pla project and get it up and running in as many major markets as possible
I reuse the majority of my runners in scratch builds. I think EcoPla is a good start and a nice concept But yeah without widespread distribution and support it's not going to do much more than just be a PR
Absolutely, I would spend a slight markup on an Ecopla. Let's face it, Gunpla isn't exactly the most environmentally friendly hobby, and any effort to reduce the negative impact it incurs sounds great to me. The wild color schemes are indeed a bonus, sure, but knowing that a purchase may incentivize Bandai to expand their efforts further makes it even more tempting.

The black is recycled, but the neon blue is definitely molded
It's possible, but they could of taken white and blue colored sprus to create a color akin to that.

People are missing the point it suppose to be experiment for the older builder to test on but they released it premium cause they do not want to promote it massively but it being sup par or worse than the normal released that why it exclusive but they are some store in Japan that you can sell the mold imo since I have this it great plastic and it good to be practice in other series like hg or rg since many people go for them

Even the regular barbatos is a great build. Pretty unique in terms of construction. But ultimately if I find any ecopla kits, I’m going to pick them up immediately.

Great idea for sure. I recently built the MG Full Gundam Ver. Ka and it had an EcoPla logo on the box.
That's awesome. That logo means at least one of the runners includes recycled material. I also just want to acknowledge how cool it is that Bandai is including recycled material in non premium kits. On a side note, how'd those plastic bags over the joints treat you on that kit? (I'm assuming you meant the thunderbolt kit)
@@GunplaMotion the bags around the elbow/knee joints weren't too bad to put on tbh. Once you put 1 on, the rest become pretty standard. The tricky part for me was attaching the arms to the body lol. There's a little notch on the shoulder attachment and then a 180 turn, but I originally missed the notch. Awesome kit.

This exact kit is going to be back on pbandai tomorrow, for cheaper than I bought my mg Barbie for. Definitely going to pick it up
Picked up the RX-72 and Exia while I was in Japan, built the RX-72 and was kind of blown away how I didn't get too many stress marks. It's really good plastic, but yeah, sustainability is out the window. Japan is probably their biggest market, but yeah this comes off as a giant PR stunt. Though, honestly? I don't see how they'd push that sort of thing into other markets. The US itself seems like it'd be a cluster to try to manage drop-off points, and shipping it... might be out of the question. I also don't remember spending much more than the actual kits, for what that's worth.
I'd love to be able to recycle the runners from kits, I've been doing more recycling these past few months to try and reduce my impact on the world. And it really freaking sucks seeing a whole kit worth of runners going into the trash since I don't believe my recycling center would take those. As for whether or not I'd buy one of these I'd have to say no since it'd only be for the colors but I definitely think they should continue this eco pla project and get it up and running in as many major markets as possible

I reuse the majority of my runners in scratch builds. I think EcoPla is a good start and a nice concept But yeah without widespread distribution and support it's not going to do much more than just be a PR

Absolutely, I would spend a slight markup on an Ecopla. Let's face it, Gunpla isn't exactly the most environmentally friendly hobby, and any effort to reduce the negative impact it incurs sounds great to me. The wild color schemes are indeed a bonus, sure, but knowing that a purchase may incentivize Bandai to expand their efforts further makes it even more tempting.
