Tom Holland Wants to Work for the Russos “For As Long As They’ll Have Me” | 'Cherry' Interview

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ directors Anthony and Joe Russo are reteaming with Tom Holland this March, but the project is a dramatic change of pace and scale from their previous work: In Apple TV+’s drama ‘Cherry,’ Holland plays an army medic who returns home with PTSD and turns to crime - and, crushingly, drugs - to deal with his trauma. Ahead of the movie’s release in theaters and then on streaming, Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Erik Davis spoke with the Russo Brothers, Holland, and co-star Ciara Bravo about bringing a story to the big and small screens that they hope will open people’s minds about the substance abuse crisis in the US. Plus, the filmmaking duo reveals why they chose ‘Cherry’ as the follow-up to the biggest film in history and tease a return to the superhero genre sooner than we think (potentially outside the MCU), while Holland says he wants to work with them for as long as he possibly can.

Being someone who lives with PTSD after years of emotional abuse, I have so much respect for the way they talk about the movie. It's nice to feel like we are not alone and I think a movie like this can really help people understand what PTSD is and how it's important to take this seriously. I think it's going to be hard for me to watch this, but I know I will. I'm sure Tom was brilliant in it.

I hope he stays Spiderman forever and completely matures with the character until he is a full-on Spider badass and it gets all dark and it makes it nearly impossible for another actor to fill his shoes. Not many of our fave actors in these superhero movies ever want to play those roles for more than a few years. We gotta take advantage of what we got.
