It’s because they are a very racing focused podcast, which is quite a small part of the cycling community. I am a fan of the channel but I know a lot of cycling friends who have no interest in listening to chat about aero positions, race nutrition, training plans etc.
1:09:11 Wanted to shed some light on how we do this here in Toronto. Our crit series (Mid-Week) has a requirement to do a Crit Readiness session. We typically go to a grassy area, teach riders about having elbows out, make them ride at low speed, turning front wheel hitting rear wheels when being chopped and also emergency braking putting all your weight off the back of the saddle. We then run a Monday Ready to race ride for newer riders to come out and get accustomed to the course and bigger bunch sizes. There are still crashes which is inevitable but it think this process goes a long way to ensuring safety of the bunch. Cheers boys!!!
In the article, they mentioned that a few brands did not respond to their request for wheels. FFWD and Winspace both didn't respond to requests for test wheels. No mention of CRW.
Here in Puerto Rico, all elite riders ride on Team Machines. Every single one of them loves this bike, it’s more leaning into the aero part because of the thick tubing, but by far really comfortable whatsoever. Hope this helps! And another thing is that it looks beautiful!
Hi boys, thanks for the content. Re: grading - Canberra Cycling Club strictly enforces crit grading over summer. Very rarely can someone start in A grade before doing some time in a lower grade. The usual approach is you have to start in either D or C grade and earn your way through points up the grades. There is a club handicapper and a handicapping committee who consoders grading. People are welcome to make submissions as to why they should move up or down a grade during a season.
I did a custom build Tavelo Arow with 105 Di2, and I would definitely recommend doing it. You get the exact bike you want for the budget you have. Also, your comments on crit racing - in Brisbane, most clubs have graders that keep the fields fair, and newbies start in D grade and apply to more up.
I have 165 cranks on my VAM that I bought about two months ago, and this bike is amazing. I love climbing, and I don't feel like the aero weight compromises the climb at all. In fact, it adds so much to the overall ride. I would even argue that it climbs faster on a 4% or less incline than a pure climbing bike. Sure, if I were going for the Alpe d'Huez QOM, I'd want a lighter climbing bike. But for everyday riding and the occasional QOM-whether on flat, rolling, or hilly terrain near my house-this bike is perfect! To mitigate FOMO on paint, I just got the nude carbon with clear coat and wear fun colored clothing when I feel like it :)
Chris, the reason Scott is coming light is a combination of much lighter frame, tires, fork and small parts. Almost every part used such as bolts, bearings even through axles looks like they are lighter.
@ TCR is a complicated frame. Mine came at 700 for the sl and 820 for the pro. It’s very hard to compare the SL since it doesn’t have a standard seat post. I understand that Giant bikes are very popular…. the TCR SL in my opinion is “limiting” the opportunity of what that bike can be. GIANT has to lose the seatmast ASAP.
@58:26 I’m that guy, S-1, not N+1. I was looking at the Giant but decided on the Endurace CFR with SRAM Red and 353NSW hoops for $10,400. Love it, puts a smile on my face
More guests = more new eyesballs from their world. Jesse to do race analysis on other folks channels. Chris get yourself out to some big EU / US gravel rides in 2025 so you can be a part of the exposure they get. You doing a lifetime grand prix event and beating dylan while Jesse reviews your aero via instagram live would be massive
@ I might guess you’ve got the road audience. Be curious if you could poll the audience and see what they primarily ride/race. I ride road and race gravel. The road racing scene is microscopic and I’m in one of the top metro US cities.
Isn't Jonathan from TrainerRoad also going abroad next year? Sneaking into his race should make for some nice crossover content - especially if you also manage to talk him into a guest appearance
OK Chris, 2025 challenge! Trip to the UK for the Fred Whitton, racing Peak Torque, speak to "Nowt Daft - Tony Fawcett" the Scott marketing guy and see if you can borrow the new addict against PTs favourite TCR 😂
What a great show. I really like the part where you talked about Jesse's Tavelo build. I'm someone that builds their bike. I have three elves and can't be happier. Keep up the good work.
Re: riding safety test -- we sort of have this at my velodrome. Your upgrades are controlled by the track directory / USAC and the upgrade out of cat 5 is a safety/skills upgrade.
In the crits in South Africa they always have a "beginners" race where inexperienced can get out on the course and 'race' in a non-serious event to gain experience. Also they have 'track evenings' where they take over the local race-car track for an evening and you can get out there and blast around (no race) for the experience - I think that's great for building confidence and discipline in moving fast in close proximity to others. Cheers for the vid guys - nice one!
thanks for the 2025 best bikes list, lads. what's your advice in choosing between climbing, aero or all-round bike? I'm 70 kg with ~4 W/kg FTP. I beat most of my club riders on climbs but can struggle to keep up on the flats. Should I go for a heavier aero bike to make the flats easier? Or get a climbing bike that suits my strength? Does your advice change if I want to get into racing? Thanks from Quebec, Canada
Yes 112 one of the best episodes. Gutted Chris slated aluminium bikes last episode. Maybe you could do a show on the best aluminium bikes and borrow a Speshy Sprint to do a crit on. I’ll bet you won’t be any slower.
A bit surprised Chris didn't pick the Simplon for any category. That is about as aero a road bike as you can get and I thought it had him in full on froth mode.
Here’s my idea about how to make crit racing safer… I would love to see in Sydney a “how to” crit race course whereby we go through the theory, etiquette and then actually practice going through a race at a slower pace. Forgive me if it’s a stupid idea…
Actually rate that idea. Developing that notion…Aus Cycling could shoot some instructional videos that are freely available talking about etiquette, dos and don’ts…Hell the Nero boys could do the video 😉
In Ireland, we have interclub leagues which is just 4/5 clubs racing on Thursdays throughout the summer. And they run a how to at the start of each season, HOWEVER not everyone takes this up and you get people willing to risk it all for a club league win which return no real prize other than bragging rights.
The Hambini vs Zero Fiction Cycling beaf was rather juicy and I don't remember you covering it. It started with Hambini publishing a piece on his website dismantling the testing methodology of Adam Kerin (Mr ZFC). The implications are interesting, considering that most cyclists I know regard the ZFC findings basically as gospel. You might want to look this up and include it sometime when there is nothing better to talk about! Cheers!
I bought and built up my CAAD13 frame back in January 2020, loved it then and still do, however there're so many more better options out there today. BTW it's now my winter bike.
Lads, an aero conundrum worth investigating. You guys mention a lot, that aero bikes really only benefit riders with over 400w FTPS, so riders riding over 40km/h. But what if you're riding at 36m/h into a 15km/h headwind (solo). Is wind speed in your face now not over 46km/h an aero most certainly applies. Considering we encounter headwinds on most rides doesn't aero apply to riders with less power and slower average speeds?
Here’s an idea, take your existing bike your in love with, disassemble, fresh paint, new components and new bar tape. Save yourself a assload of money and get exactly what you want. It also sorta supports the local bike mechanic. Do it and make a show about the journey. Your welcome
I concur! I'm considering doing this very thing with my 2019 Scott Foil, but my local bike painter will charge approximately $1,800 to disassemble, sand, paint, and reassemble. It is more than I expected, but a new bike it will be with a custom aesthetic vs the stock, boring matte paint job.
I can't understand why we didn't see you two at Tour of Bright. Seems like the perfect Chris Miller race at least! Interesting that in the wheel test the rule of 105 doesn't really seem to have any correlation with the faster results.
Gents, a little convinced by your Aeroad comments, price is now $7349 from the $5549 in what I assume is now 3-4 days ago or is that USD not A$. Great show, 60.5k and counting
i agree with the aero guy from prior episode. it's 100% obvious from profile pictures that Jessie should be riding a 58cm or 60cm+ frame with greater stack and reach. size up, speedsters.
The Colnago looks to be a fresh look at blending added BB stiffness with some added ride comfort. Unless you have super long legs and ride a frame that is a bit too small, it should be able to dial in for most. Not crazy about the look, but the front end is interesting and looks like it should be fast.
Scott has hit a home run. I’m confused by the reaction to these type of bikes by the Nero show. This is dramatically better than whatever nonsense they’ve done w the colnago. It is a sub 1000g frame and fork while being within a few watts of the fastest bikes in the world. It’s a difficult brand to live with but this is the first reasonable competitor to the SL8.
The one knock against the agile is that the size medium doesn't line up in the size chart at all. it has a shorter wheelbase than the size below it, and the reach is basically the same as the size below it as well with teh reach increasing normally. It's as if someone at winspace made a custom geometry for themselves and swapped it where the M should've been. It's the only size agile that can only fit 28mm tires while the bigger and smaller sizes all fit 32mm. I wish they didn't mess that up because I would want what their medium would've been but I also wont buy anything with less than 32mm tire clearance. The T1550 doesn't have this issue but I like the look and the colors of the agile much more than the t1550 gen 2
@ i think it’s even more frustrating that it’s only for one specific size. If a company designs a bike, tire clearance should be the same at all the sizes except for maybe the extreme smallest sizes if that becomes an issue. Don’t limit only the size medium and have the rest of the size ranges be fine
I actually work for Ribble but actually ride a lapierre 😂, I can tell you that the allroad is a bit of a confused bike but it's kinda what a lot of our customers want though
Not sure if it’s been said already, but if you like Mosaic’s ti bikes then you must check out the brand No. 22. Absurdly gorgeous, drool-inducing road, all-road, and gravel steeds.
I don’t know if anyone else heard this, but I was listening on my AirPods and heard a super high pitched whine whenever Jesse was speaking, but not Chris. Was I the only one, or am I crazy 😂. Never had this problem with the show before.
Do you think proffesional bike fit + custom geo bike is probably faster than any of the pro bikes on the market right now? Avg rider probably compromises on these bikes regarding the fit&comfort which makes you slower, and no SL8 redesigned aero head tube will probably make up for that loss? Not to mention it is probably same cost or even cheaper than fully kitted our pro bike.
I would love to hear from you something about Cube Bikes, because these bikes are already a couple of years in the Tour de France but almost nobody is talking about it.
Joe from China Cycling tested the CRW 5060 against the Roval Rapide CL ii with a Gibli aero sensor and had the CRW just 1w slower. They supposedly are also not great in crosswinds so that gap probably increases with yaw angle, but it gives you an idea where it would have sat in the CN test.
The Slick seems to use a standard 1-1/8” steerer and the same headset upper bearing cover as the Ostro VAM. Stick a drop bar on it and it’s suddenly a very progressive road race bike.
My issue with these far east brands isn’t even the quality or the performance, it’s the ease of after sales support, warranty claims and cost/ duration. Zipp wheels cost 2-3x winspace hyper, elite, no6 wheels but Zipp offer no questions asked crash/damage replacement and honestly, I’d rather have that over saving 60% on cost right now - I do tend to break bikes and wheels
As a Standert rider (their all road pfadfinder) I also have a Surly dropbar MTB, a Marin MTB/commuter, and a random AliExpress steel frame on the trainer. My carbon bike is a TCR that I still don't feel confident on cause the 30mm tyres feel crazy narrow and I'm convinced it'll snap where my steel bikes would've bounced. And yes, I fall/crash *a lot*. Maybe i should finally join a club....
I think when a bike isn’t represented in the world tour; the price should be significantly lower than the competitors that are on the stage. Scott make good bikes and they should definitely be cheaper than their competitors as things stand.
The new Cube litening Air top model comes in at 6.5kg. Scott Addicts are neither lighter, nor faster than the whole Cube litening Air lower range. Speaking of them, have you ever done a video about their climbing bikes? People like them for the aero bikes, but their climbing ones are also great value for money and putting up a great fight against the DTC companies.
Not advertised enough in the media. Not enough pro riders wearing it. I own a litening air slt and no looking back, my next mtb bike will be also a Cube
@@gerardfarrepaul4975 Yeah, their aero bike gets a bit more attention because of Girmay's stage wins and greed jersey, but when your best climber is Meintjes even a great climbing bike doesn't grab that much attention. But Cube do their thing, have super competitive prices vs DTC-brands and don't spend that much money for media ads.
Honorable mention for 2025 bikes, because of its promising geometry for taller human beings (me included): Lapierre Xelius DRS. Poor-mans "do it all" bike?
I feel like the new Colnago is a "congratulations for doing your job" type of bike, you guys were dead on, they should have done this years ago. I guess their plan was to wait it out so they could copy and paste pieces from other designs and make it work. Curious about the numbers, Tour magazine you out there?

Love the show, keep it up guys !!
I have the 105 di2 canyon aeroad cf slx 7….. amazing for its price. Dt swiss, powermeter
The Slick seems to use a standard 1-1/8” steerer and the same headset upper bearing cover as the Ostro VAM. Stick a drop bar on it and it’s suddenly a very progressive road race bike.
Where does the 2nd bottle cage go on the Colnago?
My issue with these far east brands isn’t even the quality or the performance, it’s the ease of after sales support, warranty claims and cost/ duration. Zipp wheels cost 2-3x winspace hyper, elite, no6 wheels but Zipp offer no questions asked crash/damage replacement and honestly, I’d rather have that over saving 60% on cost right now - I do tend to break bikes and wheels
I'm lucky to have a LBS that is a windspace dealer. If I didn't have that local support I probably wouldn't have gotten my T1550 and hypers.
@ you sure are very lucky- that makes it very easy to navigate
Is the Canyon Aeroad you've shown in USD? I can't see anything that price in AUD on their website?
thanks
Take a look at the Frame Work Bike. Combination of Carbon and Titanium. Gorgeous
Need to tag a comment - Jesse Coyle for gravel nationals 2025 or even worlds 2026 in WA
Actually, the fancy tubing on the Standert would dent, not bounce
Question for the show: how do I survive another winter training indoors when the sun is down at 5pm? Thanks
Well, the addict simply is lighter than that.
@@notkaty Yeah, but the lower models in the range aren't really lighter than their counterpart + the pricing.
Honorable mention for 2025 bikes, because of its promising geometry for taller human beings (me included):
Lapierre Xelius DRS.
