I think the 3 ending have a good points and bad one. To be honest they are not perfect but real.
I think these ending makes sense even in their bad parts.
And of course the true ending is the gold ending♡♡♡

I went with Benidict's plan for the ending. I thought it was the best of the three options. Hyzant had to fall in my opinion.
I thought about just fleeing and starting a new nation with Frederica, but I felt like we invested and sacrificed too much to just walk away from it all.

I think the worst part of this ending for the game is, why would I want to replay helping Roland get the kingdom back if he's just gonna run away from his duty as king, weeks after being crowned? Why care about his struggle if his "best route" is to give control to another nation do the job for him? That's even without taking into account that Roland has seen and disagreed with the false peace they preach. Such an idiot

I feel like people only diss this ending due to misconceptions of the story and the real world. For one, Hyzante has for the majority of it's citizens the best standards of living and is, if you ignore the treatment of unbelievers and the Rosellians, the most equal one, unlike Glenbrook, which is full of corrupt and disloyal aristocrats and Aesfrost, who preach freedom, but oppress a very large portion of the society for the few in power and its brutal chaos with no way to help the poor other than them becoming the few at the expense of their potential for good. It's literally meritocracy and the other is monarchy, all terrible systems with Hyzante's theocracy being obviously better, but being way more oppressive and totalitarian for the minorities who don't fit it; religious and ethnic ones in the form of the roselle.
Now you all are going to say that slavery is objectively evil and I agree. It is evil and Hyzante is truly evil for using such people for their own ends. You get no word from me on this one, except for this:
Benedict's ending is not better for minorities like the Roselle and the overall populace is far worse off than ever before. Salt is free and they are all now valued for their merit, but they can't improve their lives if the rich get most of it and when the gap gets better, especially when Benedict approves of them getting no help. No progress can be done under Serenoa's or rather Benedict's new regime. Norzelle needs a revolution, with a former slaver helping with it of all people.
Frederica's ending is only bad, if you want to preserve Norzelle's future. If you don't then ok, it's not your business when the oppressors suffer. The Roselle are free, but the majority is engulfed in a dark age and it's not looking good right now or fir at least a few centuries.
The point of this ending is that morally it is better than the other options(DISCOUNTING THE GOLDEN ENDING), since it benefits the most people, whereas Benedict harmed more and Frederica has given up on this continent. It still is the most totalitarian option and sacrifices utility, since Slavery is not the best system and I expect to see Hyzante lose it's power in the future if no one reforms it. No good ending, but from how the story presented it as, way better than for Norzelle than the other bad ending and the alternative ending, which is only bad or good, if you consider it your responsibility to help the continent.
Also for a final rebuttal to the idea that this ending is the worst due to real life history:
Slavery still exists in this world and it's not good. Even with Capitalism and years to get people elected in politics, slavery still exists in many countries and many of our amenities such as chocolate, coffee and some of our clothes come from slave labor. Not everything, but enough to warrant condemnation.
So before you criticize Roland, look at our own world and we see not many differences. His ending is even better in some ways than our own world, but not in everything, since at least some countries acknowledge slavery as bad and we do something against it, but we have a long way to go, like Roland.

    • @sundnido8517
      @sundnido8517 Рік тому +3

I disagree with the premise of your analysis as this ending does not benefit the most people.
In reality, it only benefits Idore (and the saints to a lesser extent) who in the end gained full control over Norzelia.
The people lost freedom of thinking to the point of not having the right to disagree with Hyzante's teachings without being branded as heretics and put in the source or executed.
They lost access to knowledge (Ayxham intended to burn Aestfrost's library) so they can be more easily controlled and less aware of their conditions.
Can we really call that "happiness" when this is the result of the combination of brainwashing, lack of knowledge and fear of being arrested ? As you pointed out, this too exists in our world in countries where political power and religion are not separated and leads to the kind of situation I described above.
It's more like the happiness of the fool who is unaware of what he has lost or the ignorant not being aware of what he lacks.
So no, it's not a good ending (neither are the others, that's the point of the game) but not only because of the slavery, but also because when religion makes law in a country it's generally not in the people best interests at all.

Golden Route Spoilers (just in case)
As awful as it is, I’m glad this ending exists. It’s considered a bad end by most of the fanbase, and for good reason.
Out of all the endings, this one makes the most players feel the most uneasy- even straight up unnerved. And I think that’s the point. All the cutscenes shown after the final battle at Aesfrost are full of peace, and a facade of happiness, with Serenoa and Roland acting truly proud of the future they built. But the game doesn’t deliberately (or explicitly- it’s stated through text) show what’s happening to the Roselle and others deemed undesirable by Hyzante. It’s disturbing to imagine what’s happening
And the fact that Roland gets much more characterization in other routes is telling as well- you could argue it isn’t even his route. It’s, quite literally, the only ending in the game that doesn’t involve fucking with Hyzante in some sort of way. While all the nations in Norzelia have their fair share of corruption, it’s deemed important (by all other endings) that Hyzante in particular is crushed (or at least subject to retaliation.) In the Golden Route, even Aesfrost, the country that tore apart the peace (albeit, fragile peace) that the realm enjoyed for 30 years, was mostly spared from fighting- and was even asked to side with House Wolffort by the very nation that Aesfrost invaded. The only ending in which House Wolffort sides with Hyzante is this one.
While the causes of the Saltiron War were numerous, one of the main reasons for the violence has constantly been cited to Hyzante’s salt tax. The Roselle languish at the Source, and others deemed as “nonbelievers” are cast out or worse. There is peace, but only a facade of happiness for many of the Holy State’s citizens. It’s even revealed that the Holy Teachings are fabricated- a lie meant to constrain the Roselle, the people of Hyzante, and all Norzelia. And in this ending, it’s determined that Serenoa is to side with them.
The consequences of the decision are clear and blunt. Serenoa and Roland become the puppets of another nation, one whose power already brutally grips the continent. Aesfrost is burned to its foundations, and a massive center of human cultivation and knowledge is lost. The Holy Teachings will claim more and more victims, whether or not they are guilty of the crimes Hyzante accuses them of. The Roselle will continue to be oppressed for generations to come, their sweat, blood, and loves sacrificed for the peace Roland wished for so badly- even at the massive expense of them. Humanity will remain at a standstill, constricted by the lies of a so-called Holy State.
There is peace, but at what cost? Of submitting yourself, your family, your house, your kingdom, the entire realm, to a tyrant- to Idore?
It’s truly a bad ending in every sense of the word. That’s why I’m glad it exists.
Triangle Strategy isn’t afraid to show the full brunt and consequences each decision brings, and I’m thankful for it.
It doesn’t make an attempt to claim the ending as “right,” or try to make it so your choice becomes “right.” The player is never given an opportunity to change Hyzante from the inside out. Serenoa and Roland become nothing more than puppets on strings. Exharme, in all his pomp and vigor, will never see the changes he wished for realized. And nobody else, not even the most powerful in the State, the Saintly Seven, will ever stand up to Idore’s power. You couldn’t do anything from the start.
Sorry, I really rambled but I find this ending very interesting, and I enjoy feeling narrative consequences in video games. Triangle Strategy makes nearly every decision have weight, and that those decisions matter. You can steer the realm in whatever way you choose- for better or for worse- and the game really made me feel that.

Thanks for your insight. Always appreciate people taking the time out to give their analysis on games. I love the fact that this game tells you that actions have consequences. All character endings show that sacrifices must be made to achieve your goal. I've only seen the three endings working on the true ending. I gotta say so far Roland's route is dead last. I wanna say Frederica's route is better than Benedict's but I'd be kidding myself. Maybe if there was a scene where Seranoa somehow survived but like lost his memory or something. Maybe then Frederica's route would top Benedict's. Still as it stands Frederica's route and Benedict's stand as equals.

@@akhafasu Actually- I disagree… I personally thought Roland had some great character development in Frederica’s ending.
He quickly realizes the gravity of his words and actions, and that they were heavily misguided right after Benedict leaves. He was forced to confront the reality of Hyzante- the nation he would have surrendered everything to. He is indignant at discovering the truth of Aelfric and true extent of Hyzante’s corruption and blatant disregard for humanity. Roland is once again reminded of what he had been fighting for earlier, and is no longer so easily blindsided by his desire of revenge- he’s too far away to even think of exacting it. I thought this line after the battle with Lyla was very encompassing of this-
“If that’s the case, then the so-called ‘equality’ under the Goddess that Hyzante love to espouse… is nothing but hypocrisy.”
With a decent grasp of his character, it’s clear that he feels immensely guilty, and that characterization works perfectly with the arc of Frederica’s ending. Roland already knew this, of course, because of the Diary of Orlaea and the Rosellan legend of salt within Norzelia. He already knew of the lie of the Goddess’s Teachings. Yet, in Frederica’s ending, the extent of Hyzante’s lies, hypocrisy, and brutality is shoved in his face. He is forced to grapple with the consequences of the decision he didn’t even get to make- of the consequences that would have happened, were House Wolffort go with his decision. HE would have been the one to be an accomplice to these acts of evil and inhumanity, and he is forced to tackle that head-on.
Of course, his guilt doesn’t excuse his initial plan, no matter how hopeless and strained he may have been while making it. While he is still far (VERY FAR) from being perfect, he does recognize his mistakes and seeks to fix them by helping Frederica. For me, personally, I found it to be a very interesting characterization, one that makes sense within Frederica’s own arc- though his was in the background, for obvious reasons. It’s just… strange that he receives more development in an ending that isn’t even his own.

Unpopular opinion but this is my favorite ending. You get to get revenge on Gustuv, the man who started this whole war. Most of the world is happy and well off. Serenoa looks happy in this ending (Unlike Benedict's), and Roland is happy too.
Yet despite all that, you can't help but feel the nagging. All this good comes at a very bad price of the Roselle being doomed forever. The bittersweet feeling is done so much better here than the other non-golden route endings, and it really makes you think if the ends justify the means.
