You're just killing me here with the speeds you're getting up to. I would love to at least take a ride on one if not own one 😀

Hi! I have been watching your videos for a while, they are always great fun and a learn quite a lot from them. I am considering to buy a Tandem Island or an Adventure Island to sail it here in Brazil. Wich one of them do you consider more seaworthy? One thing however worries me about these boats. I have seen many many videos that report rudder failure. Can't this be really dangerous to be caught out in the sea without a rudder? How easy is it do repair the rudder on site or even on the sea? If it wasn't for its rudder an akka breaking every now and than i believe i would already have bought one of these boats. Thank you for your advice, I consider it of great importance, as an experienced owner and user.

Hi Andrefy Thanks for watching, makes it worthwhile, I have owned every model of Hobie Island now, I like the tandem because it is bigger and more powerful. I can store a lot of gear and take out passengers. It is a beast of a thing. To compare the Tandem and the Adventure is like comparing a cadillac to a Porsche. The Tandem is big and powerful but the Adventure is nimble and fast but no room for passengers. I like the power in the Tandem and the room for camping. As for Rudders breaking, that is caused by excessive pressure on the rudder when you have too much sail out. I have never broker a rudder or rudder pin and I have taken this out in 30 knots and big seas. If you furl the sail in at the right time you will never have a problem. If you do break a pin it is a simple fix out in the sea.
These boats are very sea worthy and very good saying vessels. The problem is many people think more sail out is faster when it is the opposite in stronger winds. At 18 knots do one complete roll of the sail and it will be right.

You cannot drive the boat properly from the front seat, you cannot see the telltales on the sail. Back is best. I have a big battery behind the mast to add some weight to the front.

Just got my TI the other day. Waiting on the spinnaker to come in! Can't wait to get out on the water. Alistair can do a video showing your railblaza extendable pole and how you have it mounted on the back of the boat? Cheers!

+Jeff Singleton Hi Jeff, I have a railblaza start port at the back of the boat, behind the pad eye the mainsheet attaches too. I plug the extendable pole into that. I have a railblaza elbow there to till it back then I have shock cord running from the top of the pole to the hull to stop it wobbling around. The whole system is tied to the boat so if it comes out I won't loose it.

The jib sail/"gennaker" makes the difference! A jib sail aids in tacking and a"gennaker"
just makes a big difference in performance, as I can see...!( I want a Hobie TI...!)

Hi Alistair, I have had a problem: my spinnaker and his cables are eventually winding along with the master sail, has this ever happened to you?

yes this happens when you don't keep enough tension in the halyard, pull the spinnaker into the snuffer bag all the way in, if that doesn't apply enough tension on the halyard then pull it in from the boat, the rope you use to hoist it up. Just need enough tension so that it stays away from the sail.
