It wasn’t just that hey were “bad parents”, they ignored his escalating behavior where he multiple times told people he was thinking about harming others and they bought him a gun. You can’t automatically blame a parent for their child’s behavior but this was an especially egregious case and the parents were complicit in the deaths of the people he murdered and deserve to held accountable.

I am not sure how much neglect is considered neglect. They were sending him to school every day. The kid was alive so they were giving him something to eat. There needs to be a mental health physician at the school. Apparently the Student Nurse is not enough. The fact of the matter is historically the government can not dictate how well a parent does it job. The parents could be suffering from drugs or mental health themselves. Besides gun control, there needs to be mental health physicians that can properly diagnose the patient on site instead of waiting to see one.

It was said a lot all over the place beforehand and people still didn't listen.
I work retail, and we never sold the glasses. But all day long people came in looking for them. I guess going blind was easier than planning ahead for something they knew was coming a LONG time ago. 🤩
It has to do with the fact your eye determines light levels mostly by average over the point of intrest- once the sun is cut down to a crescent, the eye doesn't really notice the burning. So... you can get a tiny sliver of a burn without noticing.
I got my student loans forgiven. I also paid on those for almost 20 years, so I am thankful and I know I paid more than what I borrowed.

'you know you paid more than you borrowed' -- so you did learn something at college
To correct the wording a bit, "you STILL owe more than you borrowed". We were in that situation, borrowed $48k, after 20 years of paying, STILL owe $49k! Thanks to the required income based payments not even coving the interest. So it was such a relief that it was forgiven.
That's a loan shark practice when interest roles into the principal and accumulate interest. I don't fully agree with forgiving without the borrower putting in efforts, but the student loan system does need major reform. i.e. principal+ interest =a fixed amount need to pay, however long it takes you.
So people can actually see an end to it.
I say this as a person who grew up in the military and gun culture. My father taught me to shoot when I was 5, and gave me my first gun, a .22 revolver, when I was 12.
Parents are legally responsible for the actions of their children. That's a real thing, and this decision reinforces that.
If other gun advocate parents are scared by this decision, they should be. Be a responsible parent. It's really easy: don't give your unbalanced teen a gun; keep your weapons under lock and key; and when professionals at the school tell you they are concerned, PAY ATTENTION.
In the student loan debt forgiveness, I hope my kids, in their 30s, can benefit from this. The interest payments have been crushing.

Predatory lenders got to students c. 2008. They’re not 18, more like 40 and they’ve paid more in interest than they borrowed.

The federal government does not require an adult to cosign for student loans children take out. Corporations have no problem profiting off the backs of children. So many others need to step up beside colleges. The “adults” in the room set up a system allowing children to over extend themselves.

The most concerning thing about the Google search spike is that people couldn’t figure out why for themselves.
A lot of people were sold eclipse glasses that didn't have the proper ISO and they were unaware that this was something to look out for so people have been harmed, as usual, by business for the sake of profits. The commonly used proper ones are just paper and plastic and it's been easy to fool.

Words I wish I could hammer into more people, given what we... the adults... did to those students. At the most impressable moment in their lives, we lied to them about the whole lot. Told them there was no other option towards survival then to take on debt early. Even pushing them towards fields that would become so saturated....

Im sure if you look into history of psychiatric hospitals, you will be surprised what people have swallowed. One museum has a case on display of things patients have eaten while in care. But take heed, the history of psychiatric care is full of things that need trigger warnings.

I graduated from the George Washington University in the 70's on a waitress salary . Why is higher ed . unaffordable 50 years later ? Dumbing us down ?
More kids want/need higher ed to get a job, people don't want to pay for it via higher taxes.
1. Tuition used to be subsidized by the state at a higher rate than it is today -- look at the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition to get a sense of the subsidy rate. 2. Colleges had to hire a lot of middle managers to ensure compliance with all of the new federal laws such as Title IX and FERPA.

Have to wait 6 weeks to see an eye doctor? Wow that’s fast! I was on a wait list to see my doctor after 8 months.. by the time I could get in the State kicked me off Medicaid health insurance and I had to get an appointment the week before I lost it due to a cancellation.
Doctors are fictional.
That's why so many people go to the ER or urgent care instead. Because waiting four hours in an ER is quicker than setting an appointment that can take weeks or months. But emergency rooms and urgent care usually don't offer specialized care that some people require. They'll do what they can for you, then recommend you to a specialist. One you likely try to make an appointment with.
I did mine at lens crafters since I don't have insurance for eye care anyways. Way quicker.

It's called the primaries. And barely anyone ever votes in them. Seriously, we, as a nation, are often lucky if we can get slightly over 25% of registered voters to come to the polls for them. That leaves a very small group to pick out the nominations. And they can be extremists, which is how Trump landed the Republican nomination. His base came out but very few of other Republicans did. So, his base was able to call the shots and they still do. VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES! That's how you shape your candidates.

My university was cheap compared to most, but I will never forget how my college friend needed a 2k loan to keep going to school. His sister had cancer so he decided to go take one out without telling his parents because he didn't want to bother them about it. The loansharks offered this poor kid 25k! And he took it. His parents were horrified and went with him to return the money and they did, but even though it had only been DAYS, instead of 25k,he needed to pay back 30k. This child did not have 2k. He now owed 5k. His family was drowning in medical bills. He dropped out of school and I never saw him again.

The Crumleys had numerous chances to get help for their son and were too self-absorbed to do it. Their behavior post-arrest proves it: making death threats against the judge and prosecutor, whining about their confining imprisonment. Maybe if they'd pulled their heads out of their tuchises and paid attention when their son told them "I need help" and the school said "Your son needs help," then they wouldn't be where they are. Cases like this make me think there should be an IQ test for would-be parents that you would have to pass before you could reproduce.
